I never heard anything about Microsoft saying they are not making Office for it?
Enjoy your really tiny keyboard on your netbook.
If you need a quick way of typing notes why do you need Office? Use wordpad.
Epic Fail at trying to say bad things about it.

iPad has ARM processor. Microsoft does not have Office for any computers with ARM processors.

The size of netbook keyboard depends on the size of netbook. Netbooks with the same screen size as iPad obviously will have more real estate for keyboard than iPad does (because it has to place both keyboard and a display on the same area).

Wordpad is OK, but Office is better (OneNote integration etc.)

Aargh, one of my chief complaints about the iPhone. I shouldn't have to have a WiFi printer, nor an Airport Express in order to print from my iPod Touch, and I assume that this will be the same for the iPad. If I'm on a WiFi network, it should be able to see other computers and their attached peripherals.
Use a bluetooth printer :)

Apple missed the boat.

This should not just dock with your PC. You should be able to put it into input mode and use it like a Wacom pad as well (WITH A STYLUS). That would be worth the price!

And to take notes with on a tablet, you really need to be able to write sometimes, especially if you are in school and taking notes. A stylus for this thing should be an option.

WHen you have so many haters on here saying you don't get much of anything from the iPad for $500, it makes perfect sense to bring people into reality that the Kindle is basically a book reader for the same price. The iPad could be the ultimate handheld gaming device alone.

Why do you refer to difference of opinion as "hate"? Insecurity ?

Coming to think of it, I really consider that there might be an awesome deal for a company (Apple or a 3rd party) to start manufacturing styluses which work with the iPad, complete with an app for it. Maybe the finger was better for the iPod/iPhone, but the iPad surely needs a stylus.

I'm no genius at this, but wouldn't a stylus like the one on the DSi do, with silicon instead of plastic?

:apple:

What annoys me about this is that a year ago Steve Jobs said that he didn't see much point in netbooks or tablets and that aside from browsing the Internet in the bathroom, he didn't see the point of them. This is pretty much all they have given us, yet Apple are now touting this as the holy grail of electronics devices.

They haven't given us much more than a large iPod Touch. Granted I'm sure it would be nice to read ebooks on, but I'd much rather pay twice as much and get some proper next generation features. I was hoping to be able to use it as an input device for my Mac, like the Wacom Cintiq. Or use it as a universal remote to control IR devices around my office and home. Use it as a large format GPS device and video chat to loved ones when away from home.

Why on earth can't we multitask applications with this if the processor is 'a screamer'? Working with iWork, especially Pages and Keynotes without the ability to flick between the app and the web, or email, or image editor etc seems a little daft.

It pains me to say this, but the MS Courier concept video looks far more appealing than the iPad. Granted that's only a concept, but I really had high hopes for the iPad and I would have been willing to pay/wait in line for it should Apple deliver.

I don't need yet another device to duplicate my emails on! I have my Mac, my portable Mac and my iPhone!

At best I can see my buying one of these for the kids to watch films on in the car! But then what will the iPod Touches be used for?

Double Amen

AMEN, I am impressed, It'll do what my touch, i-phone does, but MUCH lighter than my BMB, and with my arithritis, that's a good thing;)

:)

I ABSOLUTELY love it, adore it, wanna marry it, it's genius, it's AWESOME <in my best creaky Kathy Griffin voice>

This will completely rid me of having to lug around a Macbook. IF I needed a physical keyboard, I can get the optional keyboard with the iPad dock. I can take this on vacation with me, no need for a Macbook: when I take pictures, pop out the SD card, plug in the camera connector and transfer my pics!

PERFECTION. Now to toast this puppy with a Cosmopolitan. Just wish it were available ASAP for my trip next month: oh well, end of March/April here we come!

iPad = total failure just like every other netbook no one really needs them they are just toys.

This should have been a new iPod Touch with a 5 mega pixel front and rear facing camera with HD video - wi-fi plus $29 per month data plan no contract.

Huge win!

Too bad it doesn't have a front-facing camera for iChat and the bezel seems a bit too thick. Those are my only beefs.

Why would one want to carry this to work? If you are working in a company that does not allow built-in cameras, they won't want you surfing the internet or spending time of facebook either.

Oh thanks, you're right. How dare I think anyone would use the iPad for work purposes. I guess there was no reason for Apple to make iWork for it. Reading PDF's and emails having nothing to do with work. Reading MS Office docs don't entail work either.

glad we agree for once.. iWork in general IS pointless.

Pretty much what I expected, but slightly worse.

I can use a tablet. It's good on a flight (I travel regularly), on the train and in self-development and in studying languages. It is good in preparing for a presentation, playing games and organising end enjoying my photo collection.

I expected the design to be something very similar - tapered like the MacBook Pro and iMac range. I like this industrial look, I like the texture and I like the size.

HOWEVER... and it's a big 'however'...

I thought that a USB port was sort of basic...

...that the screen on a reading device deserves something better and more 'matte' than this.

...that with this device, having a strong battery is more important than being really slim. If I get two and a half hours of the MB Pro's 'seven hours' battery, I haven't got much hope for a tablet that offers up to ten hours of music playback

I hate iTunes, I don't like iPhoto and I would like to have proper control over syncing a device. Apple already proved that they think they know better than I do whatever I want to do with my device.

I have to admit that I am not surprised about Apple's attempt to tie customers to another one of those electronic 'stores' that sell you digital content for more than it would cost to buy the traditional ones. That's where those big bucks keep coming.

So why is this device important?

It is a good thing that it's out and these stupid predictions are over. Finally, other companies can start dreaming again. I bet that within a year, a whole bunch of really nice tablets will be out. Cheaper ones with good processors and perhaps with better access to digital content.

One last thing... I get that on the iPhone, there are only 16 icons. But what stopped the geeks at Apple to put on more than a few more? On a device that has several times the screen size? It's mad... it's so Apple!

Folks, I don't know how many times it has to be said, but the rumors of an Apple Tablet device are FAKE. Steve Jobs himself has said that Apple is NOT interested in making a tablet device.

Repeat: NO tablet. So what WILL be announced today?

- New content deals for TV subscriptions on iTunes and Apple TV
- New iPhone OS 3.2/4.0
- New iWork and iLife 2010

Maybe they will bring out the iPad. I dont like it, well it looks cool. The iPhone OS makes it look bad (but thats just my thoughts)

Not hating but I just watched the video on apple's website of the ipad, and have gotta say that its absolutely hilarious how they are talking about this thing as if its the holy grail or the fountain of youth lol!!

Sorry Harry.... it's already happening. I know two companies personally that all they do is in the business of reformatting text books for digital delivery. Publishers DONT want to print! It what they had to do, but now they don't. It does not mean that $300 text books are now going to be $14.95 either. There is rights management software built in... and BTW... Apple has it perfected in iTunes... and they will sell the content for less money, but not have the expense of printing 1,000's of very expensive books.

Publishers are dying to go this route... the people who are in trouble are the Printers.

Well until it's mainstream it's not right for me plus I don't like digital books, so that aspect of it doesn't appeal to me.

Would have been great if Apple had had the foresight to make one. I absolutely adore my HP mini netbook, But I must admit I'd probably sell it in a heartbeat if Apple could make a netbook.

Low margin bag of hurt.
You don't get to $50 billion in the bank selling affordable computers these days.

I like what I see but still a little disappointed. I was hoping for OS X but iphone OS is cool. No front iSight for video conferencing with my family & no multitaskingbut is a bummer but hopefully in future models.

I will probably get it & worry about other features when it comes.
