iphone and droid x

Hello. A few things to say:

I just switched from an iPhone 3GS to a Droid X not because I dislike the iPhone but because I was SOOO SICK of AT&T and constant dropped calls and network unavailability. Verizon is amazing, by the way :). I do not believe that survey saying that most AT&T customers love AT&T either. I know four people who just left the iPhone because of the poor network availability both at home and in places we travel for work. Anyway, they are both great phones. I could make my 3GS lose signal with a death grip, and I can not make my Droid X do it. I have made a iPhone 4 lose signal with a death grip too. I personally think that it is a non-issue....people don't usually hold the phones like that and if you do...get a bumper.

Why not now?

Because I've moved house in the last 3 weeks and am having my first chilled weekend in ages, sat at home moaning on forums ;) - I don't fancy going into town and dealing with Saturday traffic/parking!

I've tried to defend the iP4 to a couple of friends with HTC Desire's but I'm giving in and joining them, we decided on close comparison that there isn't a hell of a lot between the two and both do some things better than the other - I could live with the problem easily enough (especially with the unwanted bumper) but it's principal for me now as Apple have been pretty patronising about the whole thing and that's not what I pay top money for. May well get an iP5 when they surface (be interesting to see if they keep the same antenna!) and may finally move over to an iMac when the new ones are out - I don't hate Apple but this phone is an issue for me and answerphone messages when the phone's been in my pocket are bugging me now - could be related to the very weak "vibrate" function as well!! :)

AT&T has been outstanding for me since the first iPhone and I came from Verizon, yes, Verizon was good never had a problem. But again AT&T has been just as good!

Understood, but I think you should give it more time, I mean iPhones have the App store and iTunes! So much more as a whole package don’t you think?:apple::apple::apple:

Get over it Apple your acting like a child. Im never buying another Apple product again.

Steve jobs holds the phone like that. And he doesn't use a bumper.

Is he holding it wrong?

I'm not hellbent on convincing anybody, just dispelling myths about this issue and preventing Apple's deflecting and spinning from spiraling out of control.

I own an iPhone 4, and I can't cripple it with one finger. I can't even cripple it with my entire hand, and I live in an area with 3 bars at max. When I travel, I still don't have the issue. A couple bars may drop, but calls are clear and solid.

You're not doing a good job of saving anyone from anything. You're irrelevant.

Your way off base it’s not a design flaw, they have made a choice to put it outside for better overall reception which it does have and more space inside. The so called trade off is when in a bad signal area if you're a bonehead and make sure you cover the "Sweet spot” you might drop down some bars, but in my experience I still don’t drop calls or data.

Do you have ANY idea how small and thin antenna wires are. The amount of space they eat up on the inside is negligible at best. They can fit those things in any random free space. Hell they could of just passed them on the back side of the glass and it would of have ZERO effect on anything.

Others put it in side the plastic body of their phones and it is because plastic does no really effect RF nor does glass.

This has been my experience as well as my wife and two kids!

Did you miss the entire Mac vs. PC series of ads?

They should really bring those back.

I don't know... those were obviously and intentionally toungue-in-cheek.

This seems somewhat venomous.

+1

Long time Apple user, got one of the bad iPhone 4s (more than just connectivity issues), took it back and am waiting for the bugs to be fixed. Will jump back in because I doubt the Droid or Evo is going to be as good as (a good) iPhone.

I wonder if a lot of the perceived dropped calls are just proximity sensor issues. People aren't realizing that it was their face that ended the call. Same end result though...

Now that would be something!

It's interesting to see how Apple has finally spun the PR in it's direction making everyone "think" there is an issue with ALL phones. What a crock.

You have NO idea what you are talking about.

That would be because there is.

The cell phone industry's dirty little secret is out.

Another engineer? Mine works fine fine fine!!!

That number is the people who have phoned AppleCare and know about the problem. It is safe to assume, unless you are an apple fanboy that other people have the same problem but don't know what is causing it. It is pathetic how people defend a defective product just because it comes from apple.

And your number (or total lack of one) comes from where? Anyone? Bueller? Do you just intuit that it's out there, because every event that affects you is "just the tip of the iceberg"?

It is NOT safe to assume there are many more out there, as there has been a month of non-stop publicity about the issue, from internet, TV /radio news. Letterman/Leno/Stewart, newspapers, etc. Kind of hard to miss, even my parents have heard about it. People become aware pretty quickly, and an 800 number and a solution is a fingertip away. Where's the evidence that there is some great unwashed mass of buyers out there who are too stupid to recognize what is so painfully clear to the intellectually superior tech bloggers and posters? And, of course, love the "fanboy" epithet--ah, the last attack of the desperate. I'm defending the idea that 0.55% is minuscule for a product defect rate in consumer electronic devices (Wii = 3%, PS 3 = 3%, etc.). And it's a sporadic defect to boot.

Sorry people it's Saturday, go out, take a walk, I know I am, this issue has reached hysterical proportions and all arguments have been driven to the ground. Do you like your iPhone? Great enjoy it, you don't then take it back.

All this pointless back and forth instigated by rubbish "news" from mr and other sites, ther's real life to be lived out there, a few weeks after and millions of posts on the web, it's time to end this. I am not taking a holier than though high road here, I too have spent (wasted?) my time with this issue, but there has to be an end.

And don't expect Mac rumors who want your clicks and ad revenue to end it, they will fuel it to the hilt, recklessly and irresponsibly fuelling the hysteria.
