"Hey Siri, take a selfie" - is that new functionality in iOS 11? Doesn't work for me.

Everyone is a marketing expert in this forum. Next time my company wants to spend money on advertisement I will run it thru you guys before just to know if I'm using my resources as you think is good.

Siri should open the app and prepare for the selfie, but you have to actually press the button.

On second watch, he probably is squeezing the volume button. I thought siri was setting a timer and taking it that way.

yes i did just watch this advert a second time.

Isn't the whole point of marketing stunts and ads, that people like them?

I can point you to a ton of ads from Apple that are amazing work, they're funny, or moving, clever....

THIS thing does not have any of that, it's not funny, it's not clever, it's not entertaining, it's not informative.

What it is, is a waste of money.

That article doesn't even talk about what Apple really wants. I have TONS to say about this topic but I'm not going to type up a full article here. To keep it short:

- Apple wants a full all-in-one Apple-branded TV in every living room (not a set top box). This will solve many UX problems
- In order to sell these TVs, Apple wants to sell a service that everyone is willing to buy into

Operating under the assumption that Netflix will never license their original content to Apple's new (competing) service, Apple can either:
- Try to fight Netflix by building a better Netflix service with better original content and licensed content
- Buy Netflix, acquire the original content, and acquire the talent to support the new service

What about HBO? Other channels? They currently have complicated contracts with their distributors, so even if Apple acquired them, it'll take a while to transition to an Apple only service, which in the meantime can hurt current Apple TV customers/hurt the Apple brand. Hulu? Amazon Video? Never going to happen. But with Netflix - they're on their way to becoming a self sustaining/original content company without the need of licenses to other shows.

Please stop this nonesense of "Apple should just buy Netflix". I used to like Apple a heckuva lot more before they got their egos into Hollywood. Netflix rules and Apple would destroy their ethos. Apple needs to keep out of Hollywood.

Apple doesn't want to get into Hollywood. They want a full Apple TV screen in every living room. In order to sell a full Apple TV, they need a service. Netflix has the talent and the content to support this new service.

Apple has now become the company that just does stuff... like Microsoft under Ballmer.

There is no reason for it, it makes no sense, but we have too much money laying around so let's give it all to marketing and let them do stuff for no reason and without any aim.

STEVE SAID IT BEST (starts at 00:19)

This is spot on. While I like this short film, Siri definitely does not work as advertised in any way shape or form and Apple really is just all marketing now.

Seems Tim Cook is too risk averse and Steve is describing the problem perfectly.

Forstall should be running the company.

Could say that same thing about Pepsi.
Yeah. Did you have a point? Couldn't tell if you were trying to argue a certain thing

Surely it seems you're not in this universe, where Apple completely owns markets, wallets and minds.

Other than the company isn't going downhill. Their consumer electronics side (99.999999% of the company) is still doing great.
As someone typing on a new iPad Pro, well yeah? But it just seems odd in general that apple would be doing things like this. It seems like just throwing crap at the wall and seeing what sticks and not at all what apple used to be about. Steve jobs always talked about the focus they had at the company on a few certain things they did well. Now apple is doing content series where the rock has Siri as a sidekick? It's just weird.

Obviously the company isn't going downhill it's just...kinda odd to watch

Apple needs to improve Siri. I mean that advert was misleading.

Apple disrupted the music industry all those years ago but the film studios have made it immensely difficult for Apple. I agree with others Apple should buy Netflix.

Once upon a time Apple concentrated providing the software tools to produce such adverts but decided that "Pro" software and hardware wasn't priority anymore.

Personally I thought it was a really good ADVERT (not a real movie) with a real positive person.

I was going to say the same as Siri doesn't work that way, i get it that it's tongue in cheek but an ad should not be that far from reality.

It won't be long before someone props up with a video on how Siri really works.

Did people not read the article? It's obviously not supposed to be a serious feature film. The video is being posted on YouTube; it's clearly intended to be a commercial that happens to star Dwayne Johnson.o_O
Exactly. But this is macrumors and people love to hate on Apple here for some unknown reason. Apples is clearly doomed because of this commercial..
