Apple is already in the TV space. Apple has the iTunes Movie/TV store with rentals. Apple gave us four generations of Apple TV hardware. And Apple now has original shows.

Um, what? Are you now arguing against yourself? I'm not the one who argued that they need their own TV set.

Yeah. Did you have a point? Couldn't tell if you were trying to argue a certain thing

As someone typing on a new iPad Pro, well yeah? But it just seems odd in general that apple would be doing things like this. It seems like just throwing crap at the wall and seeing what sticks and not at all what apple used to be about. Steve jobs always talked about the focus they had at the company on a few certain things they did well. Now apple is doing content series where the rock has Siri as a sidekick? It's just weird.

Obviously the company isn't going downhill it's just...kinda odd to watch

It's fairly common knowledge they get multiple teams to work on hardware projects.

This content strategy could be as simple as having competing teams work on video production, whichever gets the best reaction will be Apple's Official Original Content Team. The main difference is we (the public) are part of the tests.

youtube must have paid for the exclusivity ;)

apparently he is the guy who tried to argue to them the iphone needed a blackberry-like keyboard and jobs had to shut him down.

No, that was Phil Schiller. That story has since been denies, and if it did happen, happened a long time before the iPhone's release.

Set top box and a full screen TV are two separate things. The Apple TV Gen 4 is not a "full all-in-one Apple-branded TV" like I said. Do you understand the difference now?

just looked at it as well and it made me laugh. a lot of tim cook hate in there : )
i am just very passionate about apple.

Sure, as am I. Just don't let the lack of Steve Jobs introducing new products guide your judgement of the company.

Look at the iPhone 4S announcement - Tim Cook was as dull as dishwater. Yet no one in their right mind argues Apple had lost their way 1 day before Steve Jobs' passing.

a) It's a parody
b) Don't take it seriously
c) It's not a movie, it's an advert
d) The people I originally quoted weren't talking about the poster

1. i didn't take the movie seriously.
2. it's technically a movie, but you were using "movie" in a less literal form while i was using it in a literal form.
3. and i didn't read the other people you quoted. i only replied to your response

the poster is still an embarrassment. there are better ways to make a "parody" poster

I understand perfectly. What's your point? Apple isn't making a TV, and they don't need to make one either.

Headline at CNBC calls this a commercial.
great. but we're in the macrumors forum, posting our comments in reply to the article that macrumors wrote. this isn't the CNBC forum.

point is that they do want to make a full TV. plenty of evidence out there that suggests Apple wants to make one.

the bottleneck isn't the hardware. it's the service. and netflix is a good start for them to make that full TV happen.

Watched the video, now I feel awkward.
Disabling comments on youtube was the smart thing.

This was exactly my reaction. Like, what am I watching...and then I go to check the comments and think "Yeah, I would have disabled them too..."

I'm all for some light hearted humor but that was just strange, and not very funny.
All videos on Apple’s YouTube channel are comment disabled. Major companies do that to avoid ignorant trolling (like what is shown on page 1).

So many people put Apple on top of the Electronics World.. And then talk like they will stay there forever.... Apple will be brought down, not overnight, not next week but look at every top company and Historically they all fall down... Apples turn will come, you can bet on it.. It is the cycle of Economics.

Apple hasn't really been "on top" in many markets... but they've done well enough in certain segments.

Apple has been selling computers for over 40 years... a span of time where many, MANY other companies have come and gone in less time than that.

In other words... Apple has never been "on top" as a computer seller... but at least they're still around today. And they're still a pretty successful computer seller despite their low volume.

Apple has been selling phones for 10 years now... and in that time we've seen other competitors stumble or completely vanish from the market (Blackberry, Palm)

Apple is not "on top" of the phone market either... but they're doing pretty well.

You're right... companies have their ups and downs... and can come and go... but I have a feeling that Apple (in some form) will be around for our grandchildren.

Who would have thought Ford would be around for over 100 years?

Why? Just why? I don't know how much that cost but why couldn't that money have been put into R&D on the new Mac Pro or figuring how to add a regular USB to the MacBook Pro....

Because you already know the answer to that. The advert will do more to promote the Apple ecosystem than the Mac Pro can ever hope to recoup in its entire lifetime.

Apple doesn't want to get into Hollywood. They want a full Apple TV screen in every living room. In order to sell a full Apple TV, they need a service. Netflix has the talent and the content to support this new service.

There's a huge difference between needing a skinny cable bundle service and suddenly having to operate at the scale that Netflix does.
