Buying Netflix makes utterly no sense. To Apple or to anyone.

That's like saying buying Beats made no sense..... does this crap movie make sense? :)

Days of common sense at apple are fading fast....or even a company vision / direction .

Apple has now become the company that just does stuff... like Microsoft under Ballmer.

There is no reason for it, it makes no sense, but we have too much money laying around so let's give it all to marketing and let them do stuff for no reason and without any aim.

But it's not just marketing, it's also political contributions that likely go straight to their pockets.

How do you make 100 billion in technology? Start with 200 billion, and blow it on total crap, and NOT on the products.

I thought Battlefield Earth was a religious story about a certain religious faith?

Yup Scientology crap :p it was markerting for said religion.

This movie is going to be a massive markerting push for apple, I'd say the biggest product placement of all time....if only that was an oscar category .

And stellar choice, Apple. Pick a guy that was arrested for beating on his wife. Good move. Good move...

Money well, 'spent'. Pun intended. Can't get that back...

And that, what, 16 volume set? Gave me freaking nightmares. The first book isn't so bad, but it just goes farther off the rails as the books progress. I threw out the next three in the set I had bought, and tore up the one that I was reading.

I knew right then that L Ron was a whole lot of bricks short of an outhouse. YIKES!!! If he had all the bricks, he could have built that outhouse and dropped the manuscripts in it, and put them to good use: jump starting the 'ecosystem' in the holding tank...

But I digress...

This is bizarre. Siri sucks enough without this movie. What are they thinking? Siri is basically the same today as she was when it debuted, and that's sad...

Yes. Like I said earlier, Apple, like so many other companies, desires to stay relevant and this movie is essentially one long advertisement to ensure Apple retains a lot of mindshare in its users. Like how Siri was featured in the Ant Man marvel movie.

Netflix is nothing like Beats. For one, Netflix's current valuation means that the company is now too big to be acquired by any one other company. It's literally too big a piece of meat for anyone to swallow, even Apple.

Apple is better off producing its own films from scratch than trying to acquire Netflix.

If what Apple does doesn't make sense, is this because it doesn't make sense, or because we can't make sense of it?

Really doesn't matter. The point is Apple is driven by marketing now, not by products.

Can we finally admit that Apple is no longer a tech company and is now a marketing/media company?
To add to this:
Companies like Sony were/are in tech and media and whatever else, but Sony can manage this because each part is run somewhat separately. The TV division makes great TVs, the Camera division makes camera and the film divisions makes movies. Apple is such an integrated company that this content production is mostly about keeping people in their ecosystem and buying iPhones, where the profits are.

And it took you four books to realize this? All it takes is watching 5 seconds of watching Tom Cruise jumping on a couch and calling Matt Lauer 'glib'.

I absolutely despise the rock since I saw the trailer for the new Jumanji. Can we please stop using crappy actors? Thanks Apple. Also, we will expect Siri to be able to do whatever she does in the movie, in real life.

Marketing and products are not mutually exclusive. Apple is still Apple. People just have to realise that as Apple grows bigger, it's methods of doing business will naturally change and evolve as well.

Relevance. Apple wants to stay relevant and all these media shows so far have been to paint it and its products in a relevant and favourable light.

More marketing, essentially.

But products that don't need painting in a relevant light. The App Store and Siri are hardly irrelevant. And why would it make content to do product placement, when it could (and does) pay existing media companies to feature Apple products?

This is absolutely terrible, embarrassing. Why is a company like this wasting it's energy on pure sh**. It reminds me of old men who are trying to be cool and impress the millennials.
Please Apple, stick to what you are great at - making products. Leave this TV stuff to the people that are fantastic at it!
And please sack Eddy.
