MacRumor article would be nothing nowadays without the obligatory LAME dongle comments. I personally find it Incredibly stupid!!

Yup. It's hilarious... people assuming everyone who buys the new Macbook Pro needs a gazillioon dongles. I keep seeing members posting about the need to carry around lots of dongles for the endless supply of legacy devices that clearly everybody owns.

When my Macbook arrives i'll have ONE dongle a USB-C to USB, and to be honest i'll probably use it once or twice a year on the rare occasion I use my DJ controller.

Any other devices I may need in the future i'll be buying USB-C variants.

I still don't get it.

There are no affordable external USB-C solid state hard drives that exist.

What does USB-C really do for anyone other than increase file transfer speeds, and support bigger better monitors?

How is this a future that matters to the majority of Macbook Pro buyers, within the next foreseeable 3 years? (honestly 3 years is 3/4 of a laptop's prime lifespan, and 1/2 of how long it might last before it's worth 30% or less of its original purchase price).

Apple has made is so easy to parody itself, why do you think that is?

Just for you since it is getting to that time of year :D

Dongle Bells
Dongle Bells
Dongle all the way.
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a thousand dongle sleigh

As long as they offer some sort of discount on the Apple Watch I'll be happy as the UK price increase (bloody Brexit!) have been a nightmare.

Bro - I can't believe anyone this side of the pond would jump in on Black Friday - including those barbarians on the continent.

Apple has jacked prices over the odds all year and a little single digit discount for one day isn't going to make their outdated tech any more of a value proposition.

A good Black Friday for Apple emboldens to the tossers to carry on as they are.

Just because your needs are different, doesn't mean that others aren't, not every one likes to be forced to buy dongles on principle

Here are most the USB-A devices I own
  • DVD drive
  • Media Card adapters
  • Graphics tablet
  • Mouse
  • Keyboard
  • Thumb drives
  • Hard Drives
  • Arduino
  • iPhone
  • iPad
I often have two things plugged in at the same time.

Seems like it is lots of countries. Australia included.

Which makes me think it is not going to be huge.

Discounted watch bands?
I didn't think that Apple ever offered much of a discount, very low percentage wise? Don't the fix their prices?

USB-C is of course a better technology when you consider all factors.. but unless some companies grow some balls and FORCE people to adopt it, they never will. I guess Apple are willing to go through short term pain in terms of negative press and disgruntled customers, to force manufacturers into producing new, high quality, USB-C accessories.

Yes, that did work so well with Firewire, Firewire 800, Firewire 1600, 30 pin, Lightning, Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2. Apple adopts early and accessories everywhere quickly follow Apple's lead by revising their products to directly connect with whatever standard (or non-standard) Apple has chosen. Thank God Apple has the massive power to "FORCE" such change upon the entire industry.

Now what's all these posts about dongles?

Which is exactly the point I was trying to make? all these jokes are just assuming everyone needs lots of dongles. Everyones needs are different and not everyones cares about dongles.. lets be honest you need 2 tiny USB to USB-C dongles to prevent disruption to your life...

I never said they had been successful in all attempts.. and like I say, I think it was the wrong decision at the wrong time.

People need to curb their enthusiasm. This is Apple. You'll be lucky to get 10% off a current model.
It'll probably be get $100 off a Beats headphone with the purchase of a Mac.
Great if you're in the market for those two items.

I'm ok with paying for an APPLE produced dongle, because it's a new revenue stream, but the simple fact that I can't plug in two lightning cables that support data, power, and/or audio (including microphone) on both sides is (bleeping) ridiculous. Any person using their iPhone as a professional device especially for video, just got (bleeped)....

Can you explain this? I am obviously unaware of why the MBPs with 4xTB 3 ports can connect to peripherals in the manner you desire to use them.

I'd need at least 3, but to me thats not the point, Apple could almost have kept me happy by having at least 1 USB-A, its not that hard a thing to offer.

Its also about how a company makes you (i.e. me) feel and with Apple, summed up:

Apple the company that likes to take things away and in otherwords "Judge, Jury and executioner", "It's their way or the highway"

You know one thing among many things that pisses my colleagues off...
You cannot select something as simple as a contact to forward your number to on a phone.

I'd imagine he is talking about the iPhone where e.g. it is impossible to charge your phone and listen to standard headphones at the same time using Apple hardware.

I love all the caveats with that statement. You're trying too hard.

It's easy to charge your phone and listen to headphones at the same time. Either use wireless headphones or get an adapter.

But of course you had to write 'using APPLE hardware' and 'STANDARD headphones' - why are you restricting yourself? Apple isn't the one restricting you - YOU ARE.
