They need all the publicity they can get....
Not good.
Right because past publicity worked out so bad for iPhone, iPod, Apple Watch, iPad, iCloud, Macintosh, etc.

Or are you basing your comment only on the iPod Hi-Fi event?

I’m not sure what to expect tomorrow. Nothing I’ve seen in any rumors indicates anything I’d be interested in. It all seems so.....boring.

Makes me wonder if Apple actually has something surprising in store, because what I’ve seen so far doesn’t impress.
There are two kinds of audience members for Apple events: The ones that get excited about the products announced and the ones that get excited about the actual events regardless of the products announced.

There are no real surprises here but this is the biggest pivot Apple has made since the iPhone announcement. There won't be any new hardware paradigms or product lines announced for many years so this event will determine their course for the next decade.

What if Apple completely re-designed iTunes today alongside the (probable) announcement of streaming services? :D One can dream about a better UX for their large local media library... (yes I have Plex, w/ Lifetime Pass)

Another nice-to-have would be the ability to allow individual family members on an Apple Music/iCloud family plan to use their own payment method when downloading apps, especially when the Apple Music service comes free from a cellular service provider like T-Mobile.

I still remember the launch of iTunes back in 2003. Man. I loved Apple Match. Never subscribe to Apple Music (launched in 2015) but I sure hope that this media event will (also) be movie oriented. It's time for a change... cable sucks. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are a step forward but the new content is slowly added. Apple may change that. That is. When Apple let us, people from certain European countries, subscribe. I mean. We are still waiting for Apple Pay and the HomePod :)

Scanning some comments about a fluff humorous video stream story, and most that turn into an “Apple sucks” threads, has made me realize that peak Macrumors for interesting exchange as passed. Enjoy your circle jerk kids ;)

I'd love for iTunes to be rebuilt from the ground up, light-weight and using APIs introduced in the last 10 years.

But as long as the Mac and Windows versions are tied together identically, that's not happening. :/

I still maintain that eSports is a great potential area for Apple to begin their streaming efforts in, considering the massive gaming fanbase and insane amounts of prize money at stake in some tournaments.

Coincidence?
YouTube reportedly canceling original series as it moves away from premium content

“YouTube has canceled two of its biggest original series, and it’s not accepting pitches for new scripted shows, according to sources who spoke to Bloomberg.”

...

“YouTube Premium (originally called YouTube Red) is expected to continue to be available, but its focus will be on music rather than premium original content. Along with including music-focused features such as background playback, YouTube has also commissioned programming about emerging music artists.”

YouTube Premium has suddenly lost some value.

Just goes to show, with Google you never know....

So...services is where you’re gonna be now, Apple?

End of an era, truly... We are gonna see more and more mediocre hardware, until the day you stop making hardware altogether.
100 per cent agree. I was a commercial photographer for the last half of the last century and watched Kodak go down the drain when they steered toward the consumer and stopped professional support.

Diversify until the company collapses from the weight of managing all the bits and pieces, then consolidate to "get back to our roots", and hope for survival. There's nothing new under the sun, just new people doing it.

I agree that services will be king, in the future... (the self-driving car project, etc.), however- your comment discounts any AR/VR hardware coming out & selling briskly. I expect that, certainly within the next decade.
That would qualify as both a new product line & a hardware paradigm.

The Glasses expected next year have the potential to be a major paradigm shift. If done right, AR Glasses have the potential to move us away from glass slabs in our pockets to wearable omnipresent technology. But I do agree that this event will be looked back on as a pivotal moment in Apple’s history and that alone is worth watching.
