So, what did you do with your day? Watched a 342 mile livestream of a CarPlay drive from Hollywood to Steve Jobs Theater

Best (insert
number of hours that this part of the "livestream" that went on for) of my life I've ever spent! /s

This whole video push has always seemed like a distraction to me. Maybe a potentially lucrative distraction, but still a big, high-profile, high-stakes gamble in a famously fickle and chancy industry. Amazon tried film/television production and now they're scaling back massively. Why expect Apple to do any better?

It’s never too late.. we thought apple was late to the music streaming table. No, they aren’t number 1 yet, but they are number 2 behind Spotify.

It will be the same with this. I think Netflix will be the leader for a while. But Disney, is the company that EVERYONE in the industry is going to worry about. Luckily Apple also has a fantastic relationship with Disney. So.. that could help

Good and fair point on the timings. The key to all this is control of content - good content is expensive and also each offering is a big gamble. I agree they can beat just about any competition in the short term as they have a massive cash pile - but should they? Netflix's financial situation - particularly cash flow is opaque and they seem to be burning investors cash a a huge rate. Also, despite this huge amount of money Netflix throws at it's offerings I often think "Meh, nothing much on it for me - glad it's cheap otherwise I'd just cancel."

Given Apple’s extensive history with iTunes which morphed into Apple Music successfully, iTunes video content which was class leading until streaming occurred should successfully morph into a solid streaming enterprise for apple as well. A decade ago, all my video content almost exclusively came from iTunes downloaded to an iPod with video or later, iPhone. Content creation is not a huge leap for a company with deep pockets to pay for talent; I’m just surprised apple didn’t enter the production business a year earlier. So you might think it’s about vision loss, when it is about diversification. I’m not a genius but I feel hardware and software developers at apple aren't going to be charged with script writing suddenly, so maybe....just maybe...a company this large can multitask. Just a thought.

Why, I am from a country where a few very large companies are started and based, for instance philips, NXP and ASML, do they release product for the EU first, no, they act like a global company because they all are global.
And that is why your country will always be behind Murica. :)

I’m just kidding. I love the Dutch. They are awesome.

Well, showing the lack of any real innovation in their product lines (those iPad Air / Mini changes are pitiful for example) over the past 3 years, it's apparent that Apple is too huge and unwieldy to multitask.

My reason for wanting it is pretty simple. In a family full of iPhone users, my wife and I are Android users. Having iMessage would be wonderful for group chat, unlimited character length, unlimited photo, video and attachment size, read reciepts, end to end encryption, etc. Theres really not a reason to NOT want it.
Also, there is no iMessage alternative on Android. You have facebook messenger and whatsapp (a facebook owned company) so theres no way i would EVER use those as there is 0 privacy. There are other smaller options like signal, telegram, viber, kik, etc... But no one is EVER going to convince all of their contacts to sign up for a random 3rd party service. I understand countries outside of the US dont use SMS and so depending on what your friends are using you might have a handful of different apps just to communicate.
In the US, we primarily still use SMS, which is pure crap. Its the equivalent of using dial-up when the rest of the world has moved on to fiber. RCS is supposed to fix this, but Apple may not support RCS and so then it becomes a moot point. You also have to remember that iPhones make up less then 15% of phones worldwide. Just because they are popular in the US doesn't mean they are popular everywhere.

Honestly, its stupid of Apple to NOT release iMessage for Android. Blackberry did the EXACT same thing in the 90's with BBM. Once/IF RCS does come along and becomes the new standard, Apple will be trying to play catch-up (like BBM tried a few years ago by releasing to other platforms), but the world had moved on. If Apple released iMessage now before RCS catches on, they could completely capture every market and be the standard of mobile messaging.
There is one main reason Android has the most market share and it isn’t because people love android.

It's not as simple as Apple buying Disney. The culture of Apple will certainly clash with Disney. I don't think Disney really cares about Apple products as much as they care about the rest of the world.
The statement wasn’t to predict it would happen...it almost certainly won’t.

It was to emphasize just how much money Apple has to spend on content.

You don’t know anything about the culture at either place.

Again, you failing to recognize the innovation doesn’t mean it’s not there.

What people also either fail to realise or acknowledge that Apple Music has managed to wrestle subscribers from Spotify in the more developed countries like the US where the majority of their profits are made.

You can't just look at raw subscriber numbers in a vacuum without also realising that not all subscribers are made equal.

So in the same vein here, Apple doesn't necessarily need to have anywhere near as many subscribers as Spotify. Apple just needs to convert the "best spenders" from Netflix and keep them for itself, and the rest will take care of itself. And Apple, having aggregated the best customers, definitely has the edge in this regard.

Now there's a guy in the second row eating a huge bowl of popcorn watching the Apple Maps feed. Those wacky Apple employees.

LOL.
He's suddenly in a hurry to leave.
And I mean, running as fast as you can without spilling all that popcorn.

Not to state the obvious (but I'm going to anyway)... clearly this is a simulated Apple maps, and not an actual live stream of someone driving in. I don't think I've ever had my arrival time stay consistent for a whole drive... too manys low downs happen. Entertaining though.

Tim Cook's chauffeur driving him home after his visit to Beijing?
Nah. This must be a simulated drive from Burbank (media capital of the world) to Apple HQ.
