Even tho there is no hardware at today’s even (U.K. time) I’m interested to see what Apple will be showing. I’m not interested in news or magazine subscriptions, but I’m definitely interested in the video service.

I subscribe to Netflix, I’ve tried Amazon Prime and their video service is no where near as good as Amazons so I cancelled Prime before the trial even ended. If Apple can deliver a video service directly to all of my Apple devices, with some great content, I would be interested.

Haha, best PR idea ever! Loving it!

Making totally use of the generations need for “whats the next big thing” idiology.
Ill bet even the news media starts switching to this stream during the day before the event actually begins!

Again, great Advertisement great PR Apple! Loving ya!

Haters wouldn’t care.
They care, but not about what you might think.

It is often said, “the opposite of love is not hate but indifference.” Hate is just as strong an emotion as love.

There are some “tough love” Apple critics who just want Apple to do better, and then there are the haters/concern trolls. It’s not that hard to tell the difference around here.

Pro tip: if posts are filled with words like pathetic, innovation, courage, bean counter, iToys, magical, emoji and/or pipeline—it’s somewhat unlikely the poster is truly interested in Making Apple Great Again.

re: the event tomorrow, personally I’m interested in what Apple will introduce. They’ve been sufficiently secretive to have me still wondering just what it will be.

This homegrown service saves money and is a fun thing to try on Apple devices. Much better plan than buying Hulu.

They need all the publicity they can get....
Not good.

There's a reason why they launched new iPads and AirPods last week. The new iPads alone would have taken all the spotlights away from their new service.
Maybe I'm biased because I don't have a subscription to any streaming service at the moment, so I don't really care about Apple launching his own.
I think it is all about content, if they have something really compelling they may have success, but it is more about the bundle in my opinion. If they offer everything (iCloud storage, Music, News and TV) at a good price people will subscribe. I'm currently paying for iCloud storage and be willing to pay something more to have a family plan with Music and News, and I don't watch TV but my parents do, so they'd take advantage if it.

Right now

No one said it will happen overnight. It will be slow transition. It will take years and years.

But it is clear in which direction Apple is going.

But I don't think it will even happen. One of the key advantages Apple has is they can control more of the ecosystem than other companies and they lose that if they cut out the hardware.

First time in like ten years I was really thinking about NOT watching this event. But man, I'm still a fanboy waiting for a miracle. And I will be so disappointed, I know!

Hardware gross margin is somewhere around 33%, currently services GM is about 63%.

But of course Apple needs hardware to sell the services, so they’re going to keep manufacturing hardware for the foreseeable future.

Interesting numbers! And yup, good point about the need for the hardware for the services.

What makes you think it’s an ‘Apple Car’, and not just a representation of ‘someone’ driving to the theatre/campus, in a regular car with CarPlay?

Because Apple likes a surprise. Car play to deliver what else, a celebrity from Hollywood? No way. Two main announcements. New TV service. New electric car.

Why do you think it will be much harder to pull off?

Seems just about the inability of some to believe they can do it. MobileME was a disaster. Heads rolled. Yes, Steve Jobs screwed up, because he knew zilch about networks. So then they put up iCloud, and people thought it was primitive. Now, do you hear many complaints about iCloud? Apple Maps is still #2, but they keep on improving. Some people just love hating Apple.

Going from PPC architecture to x86 gave us huge benefits. It was a steep slope and took huge effort, but we could ride it downhill with the rest of PC world running already x86 and majority of software becoming much easier to compile for Mac, bringing us compatibility with Windows and Linux.

Moving away from x86 may be the same slope, but they have to ride it uphill. Away from compatibility to a closed, locked down proprietary system with very limited third party support. I don’t believe they can do it.
