My M1 is running beautifully nearly 5 years on. The main reason I'd change at this point is if the battery degrades.

Why not just change out the battery? I think that's what I'll do with my M1Pro since it still crushes my daily workload but the battery health has dropped to 82%.

People still complain about this? It’s irrelevant.

Apple extended the screen at the top so the menu/status icons/notch are in the extended portion and the screen below is the same size as previous MacBooks. So you actually gain a small amount of screen real estate.
Yeah, I don't get this complaint. It's not the notch taking away screen space, it's the screen being used to fill the space on each side of the notch. I guess they would rather have any of the other PC notebooks that just have the larger bezel at the top of the display, or the large camera bump protruding upward above the display?

If people talk about M5's, I'm thinking of this:

No more Pro and Max, we're doing Touring and Competition

Don't get too carried away reading into it. It is a whole new processor family, and even if it isn't a dramatic upgrade, the base model still isn't going to be... limp. There'd be nothing wrong with calling it "powerful."
We can at least rule out that this is the budget A18 chip laptop, hopefully.

You can’t even take lengthy notes during class because after a while there is a delay between the pencil and the iPad in the notes app. PDFs are crashing if you write with the pencil or it doesn’t save your notes on a PDF etc. I thought the iPad was the Pencil device but the OS can’t handle it.
Next time, invest in a Surface Pro

It's psychological. I tell people that if they don't like the notch they can just put a piece of electrical tape across the top 1/30th of the screen.
