Couple of things:

I'm pretty sure what that line at the end means is that you'll need to sign a 2-year contract to get the iPhone, whether you're renewing your existing AT&T/Cingular service or signing on new. People who just signed with AT&T/Cingular? You're probably out of luck.

If you look closely at all the videos when the iphone is turned if you look at the silver bezel it looks as if there is a silver liquid in the rim that flows as it is turned...look closely it is there especially on the Calamari one. Is this the accelermoter???

Almost certainly not. The MacBooks have an accelerometer in them, and they don't have an exposed vial of mercury anywhere. Most modern accelerometers are tiny piezoelectric devices.
What you saw was just an errant reflection from the lights.

I'm happy because you need to sign a new 2 year contract just to get the phone! This elimates all of those people that will try and buy them to sell on ebay. I really hope that I'm able to get one on release day!
:apple:

OMG - I want one so bad. My husband's work uses Sprint which he doesn't pay for so it's likely going to be a while before he takes the plunge. :( At least I can go to the stores to gaze upon it and hold it lovingly in my hands.
Actually, I would pay to rent it for a week to play with it. Gah!

Great commercials. People will pee themselves.

Just saw one during the Red Sox v Yankees game on ESPN. I'm ready to finally get my paws on one. Now, should I take that Friday out of work? :p

PS: And the Lord said, "Go Sox."

It didn't say you need a contract to get an iPhone. You just need one to use it.

I just hate Cingular-AT&T. Dam, I really don't know what to do.
What good does it make to have a phone if I can't get reception!

I guess I'll wait for the iPod 6g widescreen touchscreen.
Obviously reception is more of a geographically based issue, but anecdotally speaking I get better reception with my AT&T service than I did with either Sprint or Verizon. My family still has Verizon and when we are traveling together I usually have the best reception in the car.

Why not try out the AT&T service for the next month? They give you 30 days, which falls after the iPhone release date, so you can find out if it's suitable for you. If you don't like contracts period, just do their pay-as-you go service. I constantly hear people rag on AT&T/Cingular service but I travel a lot, and never have a problem. Plus it's GSM, so if your like me and don't wanna take your brand new $600 iPhone down to the bar, you can pop a sim in a POS phone that you could care less about for the evening.:)

Watching the Yanks vs BoSox game on ESPN now, Top 7th inning, and have already seen the iPhone commercials twice (ads 1 and 2 on the iPhone apple site)! The ad wasn't in hi-def like the game was.

just think of something.... for those iphone developers:

please add a function to the google map and link to yelp.com or citysearch or something so while we search for seafood in downtown san francisco, we can read their reviews too so I can pick the 1 that has a good review and close to me

that would be really nice...:apple:

*Yawn* Let me know when the new MBP's are out (roughly 30-35 hours!)

Go Sox!!! Just went to the game yesterday, 11-6 Red Sox, made my week :D

This is actually correct. The lower-cased AT&T is, per brand guidelines, only to be used in conjunction with the new globe logo. Otherwise, it really is "AT&T" upper-case.

(Many an employee gets this wrong all the time too, signing emails with "at&t" in plain text.)

It's just like how "AppleTV" (with "TV" in capital,) is the correct written out form, while :apple:tv is the logo, with lower case "tv". Companies do this regularly, use one case in the official name, and another in the logo.

My parents were watching ESPN Sunday night baseball as well (c'mon yankees, lets go!!) and they called me and said they saw the commercials. They wanted to get two (one for each) until I told them it was $600 per phone. Then they said they'd wait.

Yes, I thought about this too.
I might wait for the iPhone to launch try it for 3 days, I guess that's the law in CA. If the AT&T is sucks then I return it with no commitment or keep it if it is good and say bye bye to Verizon.

These new commercials with sleepytime music and narration remind me of the early '90s Apple stuff. I hope they get noticed by more than Apple fanatics.

Mmm... No hand of any woman here...
Strange...
Just wondering...
A bigger hand obscures the phone's bulk.

I've been with Cingular a number of years now, and I am really scared about the statement at the end of the ad that says "Use requires minimum new 2 year activation plan."

I already have a family plan, with two additional phones (three total). I understand the need for a data plan for the iPhone, but the fact that they say 'new' in the ad leads me to believe you have to get something entirely different from anything you already have. ...OR be a new AT & T / Cingular customer.

This fairly typical. When you get a new phone you have to agree to a new contract.

Map iCon

And has anyone noticed that the Map icon is situated on 1 Infinite Loop? And we all know where that is!:)

You'd think with the provider getting a cut of the phone sales (the phone isnt selling for a loss, most likely a good profit infact) they'd just sell them to whoever walks in the door and just add 2 years to your contract (for me, I'll still have a year on my contract at the end of this month, but I dont care as long as the iPhone doesnt suck).

I have moved to the US several months ago and I absolutely have no credit history in any of US credit cards. Can I get the iPhone still ? Oh my ...

and another tragedy is that I'm visiting Europe on the launch day ...

that 'Directions to Here' thing is suspicious - I think we will see GPS in the iPhone. I know that FCC documents do not mention it, but remember there are some parts of that were kept classified. Afterall, why go to all this bother including Google maps? I just don't believe it's for showing pins falling on locations. You could do that using Safari....
