I mean, who watches 60 minutes? People who are old, nerdy, generally intelligent, or "plugged in". These people will respond well to that type of ad.

I liked the song. Was it an in-house song produced by Apple or by a real life artist?

I want to give the phone a spin, but it doesn't fit my budget. :)

At least one of the ads - How To - was done around Monday, May 14, 2007. I did a quick search on the article which appeared in the ad (Chrysler on verge of sale...), and that's when it is dated.

I thought that might be an interesting little tid-bit... These ads were taken half a month a go! :D

That is neat. Good catch. I like knowing what's going on behind the scenes, and when :)

AT&T Upper-Case OK per brand guidelines

Logo on the phone is 'AT&T' not 'at&t'

This is actually correct. The lower-cased AT&T is, per brand guidelines, only to be used in conjunction with the new globe logo. Otherwise, it really is "AT&T" upper-case.

(Many an employee gets this wrong all the time too, signing emails with "at&t" in plain text.)

I'm glad we finally have a date. and I am really glad it is not the 11th. Sure I want an iPhone and I do not want to wait, but if I have to pay for June in my contract I feel better about getting a new contract with a different carrier on the 29th. That way I will only loose 1 day of the month, instead of paying for all of June then getting another contract on the 11. Missing 19 day is not cool.

Lovely. The phone is fantastic.

Now lets see how AT&T screws it up with their forcing their services on us (thats all I've seen all over MacRumors. They word perfectly: "to browse the web you'll need a service plan", "2-year service plans only" as if you can't just put it on your old plan...

AT&T ~will~ screw it up. It's guaranteed.

I sware, if my Cingular Store (15 min away vs. Apple 1.5 hrs away) doesn't have one I can use in-store on the 29th, I'm gonna be really mad. And it would be really cool to have one, but only if they surprise us with some discounts. $600 just isn't in the budget as a college student. Student discount maybe? :)

Cell phones must be aware of location due to data being passed back and forth between the cell towers correct? Then it would know its approximate location wouldn't it?

even my free cell from verizon has GPS, they all have to know where you are in case of a 911 call.

911 location service can be based on radio signal triangulation. In fact, any powered-up cell phone can be accurately located using triangulation. They can find you without GPS.

GPS is much more accurate, however, and is satellite based.

Another small interesting tidbit:

Open up any of the new videos and listen carefully. When the disembodied hand slides the unlock slider- *click*!

Finally. They show Mac OSX in action

I am so happy they didn't show a "iPhone: Hi, I am an iPhone" type ad or a colorful music iPod type ad. This makes more sense. Show people what it can do. I want future ads to show Mac OSX and some of the apps. People already know Windows suck so it doesn't need to be talked about anymore.

I've been with Cingular a number of years now, and I am really scared about the statement at the end of the ad that says "Use requires minimum new 2 year activation plan."

Picture 3.png

I already have a family plan, with two additional phones (three total). I understand the need for a data plan for the iPhone, but the fact that they say 'new' in the ad leads me to believe you have to get something entirely different from anything you already have. ...OR be a new AT & T / Cingular customer.

The calimari add is unbelievable. I can't wait to see the further details on this thing.

I have AT&T right now. Hope I can get an iPhone without a contract. Not that it matters because the iPhone will only work with AT&T, so it's not like I can switch. And yes, I know it's GSM and technically I should be able to use T-Mobile, but T-Mobile doesn't have the back-end in place for visual voice mail.

If you look closely at all the videos when the iphone is turned if you look at the silver bezel it looks as if there is a silver liquid in the rim that flows as it is turned...look closely it is there especially on the Calamari one. Is this the accelermoter???

Everything the OSX ads should have been from day 1. Functionality. People instantly get that the UI on the iPhone makes the one on their current phone look extremely crummy and dated. The only aspect I didnt like was the music. Its a far cry from the music used in the iPod ads.

Amen to you, mate

It is not the young, annoying and uninformed.

Since there is more than a tad of uninformed and poorly thought out opinion on here, one sometimes imagines that Apple has made massively fatal flaws in its decisions as one peruses these fora, until one sits back and sees the subtle ingenuity of SJ and Co. Talk about patience and clout!!! That lot has it in droves. Dell on the one, then the other hand; well, they have computers that run Windows for the most part-- that says it all. Clout-- mmmm, their shares don't look too hot. OH, did you say lay-offs???

Those who don't think through or cannot see the inner cores of ingenuity typically have a lot to say (I have worked with WAY too many of these creatures) but, like cream puffs, the substance is lacking, and what is there, does you little good. So, back to Apple's core: it is so damn solid and crunchy, you just want to eat it to get a taste of that ethereal juice. Practially speaking, it is easier to buy the products-- so, I am lined up for four of these phones and while Australians may have to wait longer than reasonable, it is almost certain that someone other than the blithering idiot in charge of Telstra WILL make a good decision and pick up this phone. I hope it is Vodaphone.

Alright: back to reality: the ads really are superb as they nail the essence of this device in such a short time. Not easy to do and of course so much is ommitted but that is the next series that will be less about the flash and more aboout the substance.OH-- are the uninformed still wondering if calamari is a squid, octopus or cuttlefish... No, wait!!! There are simply too many letters in those words for even marginal comprehension of that... my bad- mea culpa!!

So! Go Apple- you are about to change things in such a manner that the Telcos in vital places three years from now, will only be able to stammer- www--ttthh--the-- fff... yeah, you get it! And in three years, this phone will have set the standards for all technologically advanced places. Hey, even Korea might get it! Uh, NOT!!! Now what about Nokia's home base-- possibly??? I would love to be in some of those board rooms in 2010!

Not at all...

I've been with Cingular a number of years now, and I am really scared about the statement at the end of the ad that says "Use requires minimum new 2 year activation plan."

I could kind of see that... If they wanted to make some money, they'd make us add an additional line just for the phone with the excuse that it "requires a special type of line" or something else.

Hopefully they won't but this isn't the world we live in. It's "anything to make an extra buck". Imagine paying for ANOTHER 9.99 line hahaha. That would be really bad.

I want the iPhone so bad.
I just hate Cingular-AT&T. Dam, I really don't know what to do.
What good does it make to have a phone if I can't get reception!

I guess I'll wait for the iPod 6g widescreen touchscreen.

I'm really liking these new ads! They give viewers plenty of time to hype up the iPhone and talk about it some more; especially after seeing the teaser ad a couple months back. Also like everyone else is saying, I'm glad Apple is showing off what the iPhone can do rather than teasing us hidden facts.

My dad is getting an iPhone... so June 29th cannot come soon enough! :D
