Definitely looks pretty awesome! Does anyone know about the music in the background? So far I haven't seen anything..it sounds cool..just wanted to know if anyone knew the song. Thanks!

And now I'm really thinking we might see a Safari web browser for windows, otherwise why work to build the safari brand on the iPhone (97% of people dont know that "Safari" is the standard issue Mac web browser).

Did you notice the map?

The map that was displayed was keyed to the location of the user. Then by typing what he wanted it came up with local places where to find the item (Calamary in this case).

How did it know the user location??
GPS or triangulation with the towers???

This is by far my favourite set of advertisements from Apple. They actually show you what the product does and how it looks, rather then completely ignoring all of the beautiful design and thought that was put into the product and its interface.

Plus, they don't feel the need to insult the competition for once.

exactly. When I type seafood in google maps, it doesn't bring up anything near me.

Correction..isn't it something like 92 or 93 percent...We own a little more of the market then you give credit, if I recall correctly.. ;)

For the precise reason you mentioned. 97% of people don't know that Safari comes on macs. Yet another reason for them to consider a Mac. :)

It didn't say you need a contract to get an iPhone. You just need one to use it.

Yes it does. "Use requires minimum new 2 year activation plan."

I'm almost positive and I'm sure others agree that they are only going to sell you an iPhone if you sign up for a New contract. It's like recieving a free phone with a new 2 year contract in other cases or promos. Except in this case they are actually selling you the iPhone for signing up for the new contract.

You can't just go to a cingular store and ask for the free phone that they would be giving away for the new contract. Hence, you won't be getting an iPhone without signing up...

missing application?

I took two screen shots. This is VERY interesting.

What's up? Did someone changed it on the video?

EDIT: Sorry, see the red circle I provided below?

I like how the commercials really illustrate how its different and better than the current phones out there today. I wish Apple would adopt a similar approach for the Mac than the current advertising. I think a lot of people would be surprised at the positive response.

It works if you've set a default location in Google Maps.

Not practical for a phone. The idea is that you do not know the area, so you are unlikely to set a default location at every stop. Sometimes you do not see the numbers or the street names.

Yes it will work that way but it is not logical for them to expect you to enter a default location on a phone.

Maybe you are right, but I think the phone knows its current location authomatically.

June 29th with NEW 2 year contract. Always read the fine print.

Speaking of fine print, has anyone noticed the "Minimum" in their "fine print"?

it states:

Use Requires "Minimum" 2 year activation plan

Wonder if you signed up for say a 3 year, if they will through any extra/discounts on service plans for Internet browsing/text messaging/email?

bigandtasty things that make you go hmmmmm

I want the iPhone so bad.
I just hate Cingular-AT&T. Dam, I really don't know what to do.
What good does it make to have a phone if I can't get reception!

I guess I'll wait for the iPod 6g widescreen touchscreen.

Agreed. AT&T in San Diego is horrible!

There's a real reason the billboards that say "AT&T, fewest dropped calls" also have fine print that say "based on nationwide results."

These Ads Rock!

These new ads are (at the risk of sounding redundant) Genius! The simplicity and SPEED at which they depict the phone operating is perfect. I know they edited it to get it all into 30 seconds, but even the on screen happenings are quite brisk. Chiat/Day has done it again with making a powerful statement with simple, clean presentation.

Now I want one even more.

[Although I was still hoping for the first 3/4 of the 1984 commercial with a new ending tagged on where the blonde in the red shorts whips out an iPhone and call Jack Bauer in for backup. Oh, well. These are great anyhow!]

sometimes the point gets lost...

I do like the little touch that the date on the phone is Today's (June 3).

Although if they were really clever they would have set the date as June 29 and not given us the release date at the end!

When you are rolling out a huge product like the Iphone, you don't focus on little cute ways of giving useful information like sale date.

You spend millions on advertising to get that word out. The ads, the two I've seen are flat out tremendous. :p

I have moved to the US several months ago and I absolutely have no credit history in any of US credit cards. Can I get the iPhone still ? Oh my ...

and another tragedy is that I'm visiting Europe on the launch day ...

No Credit is much better than BAD credit. You should be just fine - maybe a $100 deposit.

So that its VERY CLEAR dont bother getting one if you have bad credit and need a "Pay-as-you-go" plan!:D

Okay dude, don't start this ish again. We all remember last time over in the PAYG thread. . . . How you perch atop your alabaster tower, watching all the "ghetto" people buying PAYG cards at 7/11 . And you mock them, snickering into your $1,000 glass of cognac. Then you go eat faberge egg omelets and have your servant children fight to the death for your amusement.

Hi
I'll admit that I didn't read all posts. I read a lot of them and I'd like to re-iterate some things.

First, the AT&T vs. at&t. This isn't a mistake or whatnot. I just got a Sync ( SGH-A707 ) a week ago and while it has the new at&t logo on the keypad and at&t branded on both sides of the display housing, it reads AT&T for the provider. <See photos>

The 2 year contract was known since the initial announcement. This counts for new customers and likely counts for those who qualify for contract renewal -- A few months away from the end of their current Cingular contract. Of course, this is mostly true of any other phone that any other carrier sells. While I would think that at&t would be willing to sell you a phone at MSRP ( some insane amount ), they more want your service business. Plus, if you would pay MSRP on most phones through a carrier, you'd probably find them cheaper through a regular retailer. Anywho...Again...The iPhone was always announced as only being able to be purchased by those able to sign a new / another 2 year contract length.

Assisted GPS or A-GPS is certainly a possibility but everything is still guess work. No 3G on this version, so video conferencing or other streaming type services are 99.999% likely out of the question. Apple initially said that the iPhone could not be used as a BT modem but this is rumored to be changed by release. The US version will be locked to at&t and Apple has claimed that not even the battery is "user replaceable" so it's more than likely that the SIM card will be inaccessible ( easily ) for at least this version. I would guess this won't change with the Europe and Asia versions but only time will tell.

Third party. Apple will most certainly allow third party developers. Hasn't this been confirmed? I think, EA does the iPod games. The only thing being is that it isn't going to be a Version Tracker type scenario. Potential developers will need to submit their projects to Apple for thorough testing and I would guess that the apps -- like the iPod -- will only be available through something like the iTMS. Apple -- rightfully so -- has huge priority on stability. This is a phone after all and if they allowed anyone and their grandpa develop applications for it, well, we'd have M$ Windows on our hands -- literally. And who would honestly put up with BSODs, freezes, ... on your phone?!?

I was so 'pumped' to get an iPhone and re-sign my contract then but seeing as I don't have the $$$ by any means or overwhelming interest of using the data features, paying $600 for a phone and almost double what I pay per month for phone service is senseless. Even if I did have extra finances, it would likely be a poor choice on my part. The only reason to purchase such a device and only use the phone function is 'flare'. One needs to have data services with this and I wouldn't see it a mistake if at&t forced at least some Media Bundle on them. If you don't purchase data services, you shouldn't be purchasing such a phone <period> Heck, I lightly considered the media options with my Sync purchase but, thankfully, it wasn't a difficult choice. Well, it wasn't even a choice as it requires 3G service ( coverage ) and I'm no where near it. Rochester, MN is the only place in the state that has some 3G coverage and I'm ~3 hours driving time away from there. Oh well, I'll still go and play with one if they have them on display. :)
