It’s only gonna get worse simply because the existing iPhones many have are so good. Loyal customers, but its bad for business. Tim should come out and say, hey, people are hanging on to our stuff longer (very good thing), they are not defecting (very good thing), they are really happy, so when their iPhone eventually dies, gets stolen or they drop it and break it badly, then they will upgrade.

While the XR version of the iPhone may be the best selling iPhone ever , Apple planned for even more that they targeted production way above these numbers.

So, the cut in production report is believable; it is Apple that cuts its earnings estimate that lead to the decline. Yes the regular stock market also crashed, but Apple suffered more.

Edit: Apple predicted more demand for the XS,XR and XS Max because they were under the impression that the Chinese market was going to soak up all the available iPhones. That, the tariff war and the global depression added to the woes of Apple's iPhone sales.

Am i'm the only one that is happy to see that apple is taking a beating?

Don't get me wrong! I have every Apple product but this year for example i didn't replace my MacBook Pro, the iPad or the iPhone! It's not worth it.

Can't sell an iPad that bends and tell that is normal.
Or the same iPhone like last year with a small bump in specs and pretend that iPhone X didn't exists!
Can't push updates to devices that bricks them! Like they did last year with apple watch first series and iPhones!
And the list can go on!

Apple needs to wake up! Soon!

Nikkei is about as unreliable as it gets, but it’s not like a production cut after Xmas wouldn’t make sense.

Seems the iPhone did well everywhere except China.

Apple needs an “emerging markets” phone.
I wouldn’t use the term “well”. Consumers don’t need or want a £1400 phone and they’re not selling because of this. It’s bad enough trying to sell phones at such a stupid price in countries like the US etc let alone a “budget” £749 in emerging markets.

Maybe they are. But they don’t have iOS, and that is a major foothold for Apple, and they know that. The consumer is choosing/devoting to the software platform, not the hardware.

May be. I own both the iPhone X and the Pocophone F1. To be honest there is no big difference in application software - most of the apps I have in iOS are also in Android, OsiriX a dicom viewer is only for iOS. But there are other apps are only for android available.
Widgets a big + on the Android side and Airprint on the iOS side. It is much easier to transfer files / using the Pocophone F1 as an usb-drive. I do not feel any difference in speed.

My guess is, if the price difference will stay, more people will switch to Android.

Apple is telling its suppliers to cut production on new iPhones by 10 percent over the course of the next three months, reports Nikkei.

This is essentially useless information.

Without knowing *which* suppliers were told to cut production by ten percent for *which* parts, and without understanding the material BOMs and the material BOM routes for the parts whose production is being cut, this mean's nothing.

If Apple is asking chip suppliers to cut builds by ten percent, that could simply mean that their front face glass yield has gotten ten percent better (OK, 11.1111111% better). Or it could mean that they got 5% better yield in October-December quarter than they expected, and they have excess inventory vs their expectations.

If they are asking front face glass manufacturers to cut production, that would be more ominous. But we don't have that data, and I presume that we don't have those sources, otherwise, presumably, MacRumors would share that important information from Nikkei's report.

The report does seem to hint at "iPhones", which might appear legitimate, but I am also 100% sure that no legitimate (i.e. repeatably, reliably employable employee) within those organizations would share such information, because it is surely under a Non-Disclosure Agreement.

So confused by everybody’s response to this. Isn’t this normal a few months after launch? Like the initial demand is done and over with so now they’ve adjusted to normal everyday sales so why make so many phones that would just sit on store shelves right?

I feel like we get this article every year. And everybody says the same thing. And it’s like we’re stuck in some kinda outrage loop

Not surprised really, as production usually gets cut at this time of year. Has the initial demand will have died down.

Nikkei with another FUD article. What else is new? Very timely too...someone wants in lower.
You can make stats look good most of the time, 10% cut in orders, where as Apple has had an amazing run gaining 6% in share price in only 6 days :D

What about the 7 and 8? Are those selling fine?
Not in Germany they are not.

Absolutely. They predicted "slow" sales every year since the iPhone 7. I am not going to pull them out now, but you can look for yourself. Up until literally this quarter with iPhone in China, they have been wrong. They essentially predict iPhone cuts every quarter and they hope they are right once.

Last year, they posted the same thing about the iPhone X, only to have the iPhone X to propel Apple to record profits, revenues, and ASPs. It was also the most popular iPhone in the lineup.

Pretty much. A few bent iPads don't make an international issue. We don't have evidence that more than a few are out of spec. Plus, Apple will replace them if they are.

Siri just was tested and shown to answer questions very well, better than some competitors and far better than last year. The "Siri is bad" narrative is getting old and isn't even factual anymore.

well if you slow down your customers iphones on purpose and trick them into upgrading - if thats your business ethics you can shift the obvious. you can hide it by charging higher prices ... thats the explanation why peak iphone has been shifted now for years - but now its finally here - bumm!

in my opinion YOU and many other customers need to wake up, and become disloyal to one of the most unethical brands nowadays. apple is lying and betraying in the name - not love - but pure greed of their management - dont call the shareholders - they are not forcing the management to such a shameless behaviour!

I wonder what makes everyone so angry, don't you guys have better things to do in life, maybe find a hobby or something

I agree, but it's very hard when you bought to all family iOS devices to communicate easier, when you buy your accessories for smart home to be compatible with homekit and so on.

Until now i did not had a problem with Apple products so in my opinion first i should give a second chance.
As i told, and as many others will do, i will not buy apple products until they wake up.

If they won't wake up, then i will consider moving to other platform or simply don't upgrade my devices until they break or can't be used anymore.
