Really dude ? I rarely defend Apple, but that's a stupid claim. More likely, it's lack of proper testing, despite the long beta period. If you want to criticize Apple, criticize them for that.

If you know your password, this ISNT an issue. If you don't, your fault.

The fault lies with Apple and the bug in their software. Apple acknowledged it and is making an effort to fix it. Not sure what logic you're using to shift the blame to the consumer when Apple already said "my bad".
 
I have an original iPad air and I had this problem. Had to wrack my brain for a bit to remember what the original password and user name was but it finally came to me and I got it setup.

A friend Line-d me and said that his iPad bricked after the update and was asking for assistance the day that the update came out. I thought it was just him not being too tech savvy and thought of course he did something wrong, but I guess it was not him...

Interesting enough, my iPhone 5S and my two iPad 3's updated ok on launch day...

People say "just wait" a few days or a week before updating, but this time I noticed that Apple immediately pushed an upgrade to iOS 9.3 message on some devices. My friend is in Japan, so not sure if Apple pushed an upgrade notice more so internationally instead of in the U.S. Another person in Japan on the day of release also asked me about the update.

I am glad MacRumors put this out with a document explaining how to resolve the issue.
 
Maybe remember your login credentials and everything would be just fine. Users take no responsibility, you forgot your own login info!!
I agree that people need to know both their usernames and passwords, but the truth is that not everyone does.

The logic is Apple is never wrong and if something goes haywire it is always the end users fault. We have had ample evidence of this outlook on here for many years.

And I had a case with Apple about tis with my Mother-in-law where a third level (?) engineer told me that iCloud "Does not save earlier AppleIDs. Never has, never will."

Apparently what he told me wasn't quite 'accurate'?

Damn Apple...

Rename your AppleID, and suffer for eternity?
 
Jesus, it feels like not a single week passes without Apple getting its ass handed to them.

What we see is the outcome of a major layoff of Quality Assurance personel.

What we see is the chase of cute little features every year over actually trying to polish an established major version and adding features in APP updates.

Oh and by the way, Apple should watch this video I feel, because they seem to not get the basics of customer retention.
(hint: there's lots to learn from competitors.)

Happens pretty much with any software out there, especially as complex as an OS that runs on many different devices.

I saw someone post a comment saying to wait to update on the 9.3 release thread, and I can't believe he was right.

Wait. Always wait before you update, at least a full day.
To be fair, this is quite a ways off from the release issue that happened with iOS 8.0.1.
 
Wait, an iPad Air is considered an older device???
It came out 2.5 years ago, but it's a 1GB device and therefore in the upgrade eligibility family of other 1GB devices like iPad 4 and iPhone 5. And those date back to 2012. So yeah, it's pretty old.

Yeah was having issues with and iPhone 5 yesterday. It asked to accept the iCloud terms and conditions, then asked to enter the iCloud password but would hang. Then if you tried to sign out of iCloud completely I couldn't because I needed to turn of Find my iPhone which required entering the password which caused it to hang. So DFU mode and restore it was.
 
What I'm not quite following is why does this only affect older devices, and why only some of them? And then why (and how) does an original Apple ID play into all of it as well?

Have you changed your AppleID? Do you remember it?
This update didn't affect me. Even if it did, I know my username and password.

I'm speaking for the people that don't know their credentials and have no idea why they are affected. It must not be a pleasant experience, this coming from the company that brings us products that "just work."

We need to call Steve's son. We need his DNA.

Will it help users remember their own damn passwords? I got the activation prompt on the Ipad 2, entered password and bam, finished. I'm guessing this update had some major security upgrades somehow and that's why we got that.

BTW, I'm not the original user of this Ipad, but it was wiped clean before I got it.
