you dont have to fail to improve your product
ANd yea fist gen fold was a failed...like a car that can't bring you from A to B
Or a display that cant display anything
Oh really? How can you actually improve if you don’t even make the product? How did the first gen fold a fail? It did what it was designed to. It works as a smartphone. Just because it’s not perfect in your eye doesn’t mean it’s a fail.

Get a sense of reality. If you dont try, dont denounce someone else's attempt as a gimmick.

I am not the biggest fan of Android by any stretch, but Samsung tried something thqt can, upon improving, become groundbreaking technology. I am currently using Fold and it is not a gimmick at all. Is it perfect? Not by any means. But it is a really good product. Stop blinding yourself from new trend, and go to Best Buy and take a look. Unless you havent seen it, you wont know what needs to be improved when Apple releases theirs.

First gen iPhones are not fails, they changed everything.;)
But foldable phones are not jet ready for mass market.
Then why do people think first gen foldables are fail? Just because they don’t have some features doesn’t mean they’re fail. The same with the first iPhone. It lacks many features, yet it was a breakthrough, so Apple can subsequently do better. The same with these firat gen foldables. That’s how you learn, from your mistakes and successes.

If you’re always waiting for something to be “ready,” then you will never actually do anything.

How do you manage to make FaceID to work when you’re wearing the mask? I have tried hundreds times and hasn’t never worked on me. I will appreciate your kind feedback.
Just record yourself with masks 😷? Don’t know if Apple would take that.

Ok, I think that would be a good but only a partial solution, since when we are at home we would need to put our masks on to make it work.

I don’t even understand why Apple hasn’t released yet an updated iOS which allows 2 FaceID profiles for a person: one with mask and the other without it.

Don’t you think?

Seriously, DO not remove the charging/data port please...
The only plus I see is waterproofing. But almost every iPhone I’ve owned has at some point needed a DFU restore. I wonder if they have an answer for that (besides Genius Bar visit).

galaxy fold is an absolute gimmick.

I'm still off track on this idea. With foldable screens, I can't see how they can possibly hold up to daily use over time, and with non-folding screens like Microsoft's Duo, I can't see the added value. As a phone, the Duo is huge, and anything smaller would suck as a tablet.

I just don't see the clamor for this tech. It seems it's an idea with no reason or need behind it. I see this ending up on the pile with 3D televisions.

It randomly started to work in the middle of last year on my XS Max. I changed to the 12 PM when it came out and around Christmas it also started to work on that one. I guess it just learned my face with a mask from too many failed attempts while wearing one

My fold 2 is holding up just fine. Like with any device if you look after it there are no issues

reasons behind it is moving tech forward...current phones are very similar this gives people more options on what to use with their phones. Sometimes you want to do more with more tech while being able To put it in your pocket with no issues.

certainly on the fold 2 the multitasking you can do is ideal for many different tasks at once. Which I would hope when apple brings one out will be able to do similar stuff.

obviously people who are stuck in their ways and just want to use their phone for the basics this won’t be for them but for the techies it’s great to use.

foldables aren’t for everybody and for many it won’t but there is a market While a small one currently foldables are still selling millions each year

This life-comedy simulation we are all stuck in will likely have mandatory mask wearing end as soon as Touch ID comes back. So I’m all for Touch ID!

I cannot wait to hold a mask burning party

I’d like an in-display fingerprint sensor and no notch.

I think we will see this happen. I've been saying since Farce ID was first introduced with the notch that Touch ID would return once Under Glass was Mature. Apple can save allot of production costs by ridding the iPhone of Farce ID, and production costs are a priority these days more than ever.

Keeping my fingers crossed. ;)

I like Face ID a lot, but since wearing a mask makes it impossible to use when paying for items in stores, Touch ID would be convenient to have for the time being.

Or maybe they are going virtually portless and will use a new magsafe connector similar to what’s on the iPads now to connect keyboards, and are just making a much more waterproof design.
Smart connector accessories are sold separately on iPads.
Yes, and some could use it or something very similar for iPhones.
I'm also more confident in the "Smart" connector implementation. It has worked well enough for tablets, including the iPad.

Face ID is here to stay. Notch is here for the time being. If production costs are a priority abandon Touch ID under glass.

A couple of things concern me with this rumour - they already have a power button fingerprint sensor, and “wireless” charging is still flaky, as well as interfering with gps operation, making in car navigation unreliable. I can’t get sensible operation of the TomTom app that I’ve used since it’s introduction with wireless charging, and that’s on an 11 pro max.

The day they make a foldable iPhone, is the day I stop buying them.
Well, then get ready in 3-4 years for that to happen. Your problem will be that foldables iPhones will officially start a trend, so Androids very likely will also be foldables. My best advise for you is to take care of your current iPhone which seems that you will keep for a long long time.
