Better be cheap. All the COVID vaccines that our government said was being stored in a safe location are GONE, MISSING.

That means chaos and a very bad economy ahead. people will only be buying food and necessities .

I'm thinking of flying to Australia to get treated for Cancer and avoid the unruly chaos coming.

My dude, you took a wrong turn on your way to PRSI. Have a stroll around though, you might like it here, there’s some punch somewhere I think but bare minimum don’t try to make this thread about something it’s not.

I just want Touch ID only with a hole punch camera and the top speaker in the edge of the bezel or for Apple to find a way to do an under-display camera well. I saw this new Android phone that does this on LTT, but the pixels over the camera are lower resolution and the image from the camera itself isn't good but probably okay for video calls. Looks slick from a distance.

The only thing I really like about Face ID are attention aware features to keep the display from going to sleep. But now that I'm at home all the time, I've set my iPhone to never lock. The battery on the 12 Pro Max actually holds up pretty well doing this and I'm always near a charger if not. If my OLED starts to burn in it doesn't really matter because by the time it does I'll probably be getting the next iPhone through iUp.

I haven’t missed the TouchID since I got my first FaceID device. Unlike TouchID, it never fails me and even works with my mask on nowadays while TouchID was annoying to use in cold winter (gloves) and it might be a mental thing but as soon as I needed to use TouchID, my fingers would automatically start sweating and therefore failing a lot 😅

Always thought that all these folding phones get a bad form factor when unfolded. The screen gets square, thats not super helpful. Maybe a trifold....

Do you really think that the current smartphone design is the final and most refined design for this product? Do you really think that the market will afford 10 more years with a design so many years dated? The common people will need to perceive a design change, something fresh and even something innovative to justify keeping yearly phone updates (although a flip phone doesn’t seem so innovative to us). So to achieve this perception among the consumers, the manufacturers will have to launch new designs sooner or later, and if you consider that the people will be wanting bigger screens every year, the only way to keep having bigger screens will be by launching flip and foldable smartphones. That’s it!
I like choice, and have always liked bigger phones as well as having smaller phones.
let’s remember who are the ones most chuffed about the preposterous folding gimmicks, the tech blogger echo chamber; the same ones who collectively laughed and mocked the larger phones until they saw consumers preferred them.
Their track record on predicting “the future” of anything is nill.

And foldables have already bombed. They are a step backwards bringing unnecessary complexity to the already refined device we have to date. One that has stripped away everything to its cleanest, purest and most useful form.

But the foldables do scream “Android”.
Remember those slide-out keyboards and other wacky concoctions? Foldables are another thing that Android vendors can lose money on. Isn’t that their forte?

Wireless only will cause me to give up iPhone. What about CarPlay? I'm not buying a new car just for wireless CarPlay. Also not willing to pay $200 for Apple's inevitable "magical" CarPlay adapter. I still like doing full restores using my PC / iTunes. Removing the charging port is just too far.
Can also charge while being used.
Import from SD card.
Working with Xcode is multiple times quicker with a cable (even the crappy usb 2.0 speed).
Transfer huge files reliably (even more important since they introduced 4k Dolby Vision video).
Transfer files to a windows PC.
Backup/Restore to a Mac/PC.
Don't have to worry about earphones/headphones running out of battery.

It won’t make me abandon iPhone altogether but I’ll certainly be holding on to my 12 Pro until it dies. And this is coming from someone that has upgraded every year since my first iPhone 4 in 2010.

There is no misstep. I hate to burst your bubble, but Apple doesn't lead when it comes to mobile tech to move the industry forward. They're a parts collector that waits for the real leaders like Samsung to innovate breakthroughs in mobile tech. Samsung innovates like no other.
Remember the little notebook of Samsung’s top designer, over 130 pages, “things to copy from the iPhone”. Admittedly, Samsung makes better fridges and washing machines than Apple.

If the ip13 still has a notch and no TouchID and the only changes are 120 variable refresh rate, a slightly better camera, new processor and maybe more Ram, Apple can stick it up their Stargate. I'll keep my XS Max for another year.
About two percent of customers buy a new iPhone every year. The iPhone 13 primarily needs to convince iPhone 8 users and early iPhone X users to upgrade.

I personally prefer capacitive fingerprint sensor. Optical ones, even the good ones, are slower. I haven't tried those ultrasonic ones on Samsung flagships, but I heard they can interfere with screen protectors.

Apple already have Touch ID on power button on the iPad Air, so why the need to re-invent the wheel?

TouchID would be very welcome. FaceID honestly sucks not just since face masks. Say, when I have my phone sitting flat on a table while working, I always have to awkwardly move my phone closer to my face. My biggest issue with TouchID was that I sometimes had to reposition my finger slightly or something like that. If I just compare the number of times that I had to consciously think about FaceID with the number of times I had to think about TouchID, TouchID very, very clearly wins for me. I understand of course that it all depends on your exact usage habits, which is why a combination of both technologies would be amazing to see (and which is probably also why you have polarizing opinions on those technologies)

Foldable display phones are big fail. At least in this stage of available technology.
They are first gens. Nobody called first gen iPhone/iPad a fail, despite their obvious flaws (2G only for iPhone, miniscule RAM for the iPad, shortest OS support). Those first gen "fails" are needed to refine the tech. If you don't fail, then how can you improve?

I just hope when apple does bring in their foldable by 2022-2023 it is pretty much perfect and refined as no doubt by 2023 the Samsung Z fold line will be very refined from a hardware and software point of view

Z fold 2 is very good now but needs a new other areas to get better with like the IP rating and being comfortable for people to use with no hassle. It’s the perfect 2nd phone for me right now and will look forward to see what else they improve it at

I really have come to dislike Face ID on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The one thing I miss the most about my previous 7 Plus is Touch ID, even though Face ID is great in some situations.

Having both on the same phone is the Holy Grail.

you dont have to fail to improve your product
ANd yea fist gen fold was a failed...like a car that can't bring you from A to B
Or a display that cant display anything

First gen iPhones are not fails, they changed everything.;)
But foldable phones are not jet ready for mass market.

TouchID NEEDS to come back to the iPhone. It’s in a number of Android phones and for practicality purposes it’s something I would fully welcomed.

They are removing things like the charging port to force you to buy the expensive wired conduction charger.
Or maybe they are going virtually portless and will use a new magsafe connector similar to what’s on the iPads now to connect keyboards, and are just making a much more waterproof design.

Smart connector accessories are sold separately on iPads.

How do you manage to make FaceID to work when you’re wearing the mask? I have tried hundreds times and hasn’t never worked on me. I will appreciate your kind feedback.
