Foldable display phones are big fail. At least in this stage of available technology.
Honestly, I really think that Apple is the only one that can achieve the refinement and excellence that flip/foldable smartphones need to give the market a game changer once again.

May be, but i think not in upcoming 5 - 7 years. I think they have this in their bench, but technology not allowing to implement such thing as they wanted to. :)

Fingerprint sensor isn't even about the pandemic. Kuo got wind this plan as early as August 2019.

We've had 4 years of Face ID and we've seen marginal improvements.

Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors read the geography under the skin, bypassing dirt and liquid. Contrary to popular belief, with higher DPI sensors, it can be more secure than Face ID.
Awesome. Get rid of FaceID and the notch already, Apple!

Why are you all like a flip phone would be so cool? Like that was so 15 something years ago.

Too much? ☺️

Seriously though, the PEBL and RAZR were neat back then.

Here’s how Apple has the advantage, if they offer both Face ID and touch ID embedded into the display, consumers who have older model iPhones or only have face ID on the current iPhone, will have to upgrade to the iPhone 13, but is it enough? For me, it would be to have both Face ID and touch ID, but with the price of smart phones, does the consumer see the value of having both options in a larger, more expensive iPhone? Given the pandemic and how masking is still a major part of 2021, this is highly convenient.

Samsung has had these features in their phones for a few years now. Cleaarly it's time for Apple to start exploring them. Just like with OLED, NFC, large screens etc. Apple will be several years behind the leading edge in phone tech.

With all respect, I think 5-7 years is too long far away, so I guess that for 2023 Apple will introduce their flip/foldable iPhones, and that way obviously all other brands will follow that trend. That’s my humble guess, so we’ll see.

I wonder how Apple would cripple their foldable iPhone so as not to compete with iPad (Mini). Similar to how Apple will never put a touchscreen in a Mac because iPad sales...

Because it would be nice to have an iPhone that unfolded can have a +6.5 or even +7 inches screen, while folded could fit in the palm of the hand. That’s it!

Obviously it would be a reconceptualized flip/foldable smartphone, far way better than it was 15 years back then.

In-display fingerprint would be cool. Folding? not so much.

What makes way more sense to me is improving FaceID tech (I am fine with the notch, but it'd be gravy to make it smaller) and then putting TouchID into the power button like they did with the iPad Air.

I also plug in my iPhone occasionally for syncing higher-fidelity music as well as for carplay in my older car. While they probably are on track to remove cables altogether, I hope they don't.
Yes, so simple to make FaceID smaller...they should just hire you to show them.

Remember, just because they can doesn’t mean it makes sense.

I really do think that Apple will eventually merge iPad Mini and it’s future foldable iPhone into a one single product, and that clearly will be the competitive advantage of that new foldable iPhone, definitely becoming the iPhone that everybody will want to have.

since it doesn't seem like masks are going away - touch id is very welcomed back. don't give a hoot about foldable tech, but that's subjective.

I don't know of any store that REQUIRES you to wear gloves. Do you? :D
Yes a few. Usually stores that cannot afford strict surface cleaning compliance.

I’ll just lower my mask momentarily to unlock if I need to use the phone. Yeah, I know I have blood on my hands. Sosume.

If the ip13 still has a notch and no TouchID and the only changes are 120 variable refresh rate, a slightly better camera, new processor and maybe more Ram, Apple can stick it up their Stargate. I'll keep my XS Max for another year.
