as an iOS developer that has created both games and apps... i just want to smash my keyboard right now :( I'm all for a bigger size but the amount of work and extra cost for graphics that have to go into supporting different screen sizes is a pain in the butt. oh well, hope the discontinue some screen sizes.

How are the guys here who use a large smartphone carrying them around? I carry mine in my pants pocket. I can't imagine a phone much larger than an iPhone 5 fitting comfortably.

I certainly like to have options. I'm just curious as to how the guys here are carrying around their phablet.

At least two years past overdue. At LEAST.

Only Apple could get away with clinging to a narrow little screen, ignoring a powerful demand for a more usable display. By stonewalling this long they've proved their point, they've held loyal users captive, now it's time to move on. The supreme challenge is if they can bring themselves to do it. :)

You guys are missing the whole concept of what Apple is doing.

Again, they are skating to where the puck is. People are making fewer and fewer voice calls. I for one would take unlimited LTE data (no caps) for a pay-per-minute phone plan. I have thousands of rollover minutes through AT&T that I will never ever use, yet I accumulate them monthly.

The 6" iPhone is a response to the fact that many of us no longer talk on our phones, but communicate through text, web, social media, video chat, etc.

You look idiotic holding a 6" "phone" to your ear. It's unwieldy for constant phone use and doesn't make sense for anything but data-based applications.

Enter the iWatch. Pair your iWatch to your 6" iPhone. No need to pull your 6" phone our of your pocket and look like a moron. Your data input, web surfing, etc is done on the face of the phone. Menial tasks like voice calls are done with the iWatch when paired with your iPhone.

Skating to where the puck is people...

Thank you for being one of the two intelligent comments I've seen in this thread thus far.

I'm not curious, I see it all the time. Guys and Gals using their wonderful Galaxy Note with a display that's simply gorgeous.

I'm not questioning why someone would want to use a Galaxy Note. I get it. I'm wondering how guys are carrying them around. Women can easily throw them in their purse. What are the guys doing? That's the main reason I wouldn't want a phone much larger than the current iPhone 5. I couldn't imagine walking around with that thing in my pocket.

A 6" screen? Wow. That seems a tad ridiculous. Then again, I find the Note to be ridiculous too. Soon clamshell designs will become popular again and people will just hold small laptops to their ears and talk into them. Stop the madness!

Sadly, this sounds more or less like what Samsung just released (Note 3 paired with Galaxy Gear watch). Not sure how well this will go over.

Surely 6" is too big to utilise with one hand?

Yes but is it big enough to use with two thumbs for some uses while still getting away with one thumb for quick simple things.

I think the galaxy vs note would suggest over 6 inch there is another use mode that sits between the iPad mini and the iPhone. I can understand why Apple would wait till they can do 6inch on their terms.

Plus 4,6,8,10,12 inch iOS device family is pretty clean marketing wise.

Personally I'll stick with the 4 & 8.

You will look just as dumb talking to a watch as you would talking to 6 inch phone maybe worse.

Now I really have to agree with someone's earlier comment that you sounded like a Samsung advert. Did you even read what he wrote? Because you sure didn't respond to it, lol

I doubt anyone is missing anything. We are all enthusiasts here.

Skating to the puck? Leave that to the Montreal Canadiens, they do it with elan.

Apple?

They've got their hands full just catching up after an extended period of profit taking and resting on their laurels. :D

Unfortunately, Apple is too late for some, and they are no doubt losing some customers by not having a larger phone at least as an option. As others have alluded to, I rarely hold a phone up to my ear any more. I want a larger screen on my phone, and quite honestly the Galaxy Note 3 is VERY enticing to me. I am going to wait until iOS7 comes out to test drive it on my iPhone 5, and I will do the same with the Galaxy note 3. If iOS 7 by itself doesn't keep me in the ecosystem then I have a feeling I will be switching to a Note 3. I very much want to stick with the iPhone because it is a fantastic device, but there is so much more it could be with a larger screen. If they would at least announce the intentions of producing such a phone in the next 6 months as a "one last thing", I very likely would stick with my iPhone until then. If not, I'm not going to look back.

5 inches, at the absolute most please. I'd like to see them reduce the bezel and use that space to increase the screen size first, and Maybe on like the iPhone six reduce the bezel and add maybe a half an inch to the screen size.

Why is this news? Does anyone think ANY company DOESN'T internally test a wide variety of things to see what works and what doesn't?

Even iPad Mini fits in my pocket....

I don't see why the cellular ipad mini isn't able to sign up for cell service and be used like a phone. 7 in mega phone.

For the "looks stupid holding up to your face for a call" crowd: I'm sure you would just use headphones or bluetooth most of the time in public, and it works fine holding normally for skype in private as is.

They would have to either add an earpice speaker on the front, or have it be speakerphone/bluetooth/headphones only. Other than that, they just need to add a phone ap and let you sign it up with the cell companies right?

I just tried holding my ipad mini up to my ear, works fine. :D

Get over it... Why in the world would someone want a phone that is the size of a tablet... So dumb...!
You may prefer tiny screen, but not everyone agree with you. My iPhone4 is just too old and Apple couldn't offer anything better. I'm waiting 5 more days and most likely buying z1.
