Steve Jobs must be rolling in in grave

WOW. I remember when I mentioned the need for a larger iPhone and the local fanboys treated that suggestion like sacrilege. Can't wait to hear from those same fanboys on why they need one immediately....

:D

So why do I want an iPhone

Why do I want an iPhone if the new iOS is as ugly as Android, and if someday the new phones are as horribly big and ungainy as Samsung. Why not just go with the cheaper real Android?

When Apple starts copying trends I lose.

iPhone display quality on a 6" screen? All over that. I'd be happy with 4.5-5 for that matter. As long as they increased the resolution to follow suit, which I'm sure they will. That's going to be one awesome device. The only phone I haven't thrown out of a window or against a wall in 20 years is an iPhone. Now if they could update that OS!!!

After reading dozens of complaints about using a big phone and various sexual references, this post is at least intelligent. But you're giving Apple too much credit.

EVERYONE is missing the point of this article. The ONLY reason this article exists today, from no less than WSJ, is because Samsung just announced the 5.7" Note 3 yesterday. This is Apple's way of telling any existing iPhone users who want a larger phone to wait. But another year?

I don't think it works this time.

I think what everybody is missing here is... More than strange that on the eve of release of the newest line of iPhones does the WSJ go ahead and publish a "report" to torpedo next weeks announcements.. It's Murdoch and company at it again..

Explain why else this "news" leak hit the wires today..???!!!!!!!!

Excellent.

I'm just about to give android a try because I want a larger screen.

I may be tempted back if this is true :)

Come on iPhone 6XL. :)

4" is the perfect size for ME. I had the original iPhone, the iPhone 4, then a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, then a Huawei Fusion 2, and now a Nokia Lumia 520.

3.5" is too small these days. This became apparent when I started buying Humble Bundles for my Huawei. Many of the more elaborate games that are out now benefit from the half extra inch, especially when it comes to text.

But the 4.5" screen on the Skyrocket was huge. Barely fit in my pocket, and was slippery. I'm a one handed typer, and it'd start slipping out of my hand after I started to type. And you can barely swipe down the notifications on it with one thumb when you're just using one hand.

I'm happy with the 4" screen on the Lumia. It's enough space to play games on without it being too awkward to hold, it's enough space to do small sketches with my Jot Pro, and it makes a great reader.

Unless it would run iPad apps, I wouldn't go for the 6" iPhone. That, and it would have to have 128GB storage if I'm to run both iPhone and iPad apps.

Why is this news? Does anyone think ANY company DOESN'T internally test a wide variety of things to see what works and what doesn't?

That's the way I see it. No doubt Apple is testing all types of screen sizes, and perhaps exploring the ideal size for mating with a smart watch.

Well, if you expect me to wait another year Apple for a bigger phone. Man your pushing me everyday closer to buying the Galaxy Note 3.

You got it wrong. WSJ is in bed with Apple.

They did the same thing when the Nexus 7 was launched.

Apple will release a 4.7"-5" iPhone next year. They may even release a phablet too. Makes sense to me. They should have been offering a 4.7"-5" this fall.

Agree on getting the balance right. Disagree on the galaxy battery life. My S4 gets around the same as my i5 with the same sort of usage. I get a day out of the S4, could get longer if I wasn't using it so much. The 5 was no different. From my experience neither is better than the other. For smart phones they are both decent when it comes to battery life.

I have an S3 and the battery life is disgraceful and found it to be the big screen is the reason why which doesn't make much sense since the brightness on the S3 is dimmer than on the iPhone. I guess they improve it for the S4.
I found that iPhone battery are better performing than its Samsung counterparts but I assume thats because of the smaller screen.

now everyone is going to cry that they don't want a screen this large even though no one is putting a gun to their head to buy one.

options are good!!

bring on the bigger screen.

True, but I'll be making fun of you just the same.

I'd have to see how they made a bigger screen. I really don't like the S4's design. So if that's it then that is unfortunate (before anyone goes all nuts about whether I'd still buy one, the answer is yes. If the option is get a bigger iPhone or buy an Android, I'll pick iPhone). However they moved to 4" perfectly. If they can make a reasonable form factor and increase screen size I think I'd be ok.

Duh

Well, of course they are. Any decent tech company has dozens of active prototypes that are tested for years before a decision is made to go to market.

NEWS ALERT Sony testing various size TVs NEWS ALERT

Wow, when did Apple become so far behind the curve that they tried to compete literally years *behind* what even Samsung is doing?

Jesus...next they'll release a VCR and then a punch card reader

Bring Steve back from the dead!!!

Seriously what are you even babbling about, apart from the bad taste. Did you even see the travisty of the Note and Gear?

6" phones are stupid, Period. They don't fit in a pocket. The only real reason to have a phone that big is so it can have a massive battery. 2 Hand phones are basically tablets.

I've had an iPhone since 2008. I love my iPhone 5, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be moving to the Note 3. I want a bigger screen so bad. I just can't wait another year. Especially since we don't know if Apple will actually release a bigger iPhone. My luck is I'd wait for the iPhone 6 and it would still have a 4" screen.

I'm sure there is no chance of it, but I'd love it if Apple revealed a 5" or greater iPhone next week.

No, they'll suddenly say they want big screens, and start praising big screens, now that Apple is doing it.
