Well that's obviously a fake rumor... really... the Maxi Pad. Come on.

If Apple is looking into a 13" iPad and does bring it to market, I believe they will just rename all the iPads to just iPad. From there you would just choose the screen size you would prefer. Pretty much the same way they did when there was the 3 sizes for the MacBook.

At that point it would just be iPad. Then you would choose 7.9, 9.7 or 13.

By that point all iPads would have retina display and would have the same processing chip, camera etc, so your only choice would be screen size, storage and WiFi or 4G (or whatever G it might be at the time).

Larger screen iPhone? I was (still am) against the 4" iPhone... much more against an even bigger one. Increasing screen size seems the opposite of innovating, it is more like noise to sell more than actually add something to the device that is worthwhile.

iPad? An extra inch could do fine.

The key is in thr bezel I think. Bigger screen + smaller bezel = win.
Can't wait for this rumor to come true!

13" inch??

The times are changing...

We can no longer say "12" or above" is ridiculious....

.....well we can, but look at the proof..???

I still find it hilarious, that people still hold up iPad's at concepts blocking views of all wh sit near them.. This is why we take our iPhones right??

But what happens, when the iPhone is 5" or above??? Suddenly, e en the iphone will be "too big" ...

(This is why u never see an Galaxy S3/4 phones at concets).

All we want is a phone we can hold, and not looknlike a doofus holding a pie e f pile wood out in front.

Unforunatly, unless you can keey your current 3.5 - 4" going, your out of luck.

Unless you go for those non-smartphones... These will never increase in size/featues luckily since there no real market for them anymore exceot the small percentage of customers who just want a basic phone.

I don't mind about "innovation", but for the love of god Apple, make it allot thinner.

A 13" iPad seems totally unnecessary seeing as I think the iPad mini is the perfect size. I find 9" too big and bulky. Can't imagine what 13" would look like!

but that's you.

If you felt a 250cc motorcycle or a 1 litre small car was fine for you, do you think the makers of cars and bikes should not make any larger/more powerful vehicles just because you are happy with the low power models?

I know this is Alien to many Apple users, but not all people are the same or want the same.

It's never been that apple buy Apple as it's the exact model they want. they don't have any choice, if they want an iPhone they buy the only size there is.

that has been the problem with steve jobs all alone, he told you what you should have, treating his customer like children. With him thankfully out of the way now, hopefully Apple users can enjoy some choice and still own Apple.

Screen like a MacBook Pro

Ipad 13' a winner

I've replaced many screens from MBP's and holding a 13' on hand is amazing. Always told my customers that would be a great iPad size for serious work.

Besides it will be 16/9 ratio must nicer for HD content that the current 4/3 that always letterbox most video content.

That like having a macbook air with a touch screen :)

Can't wait for this

Apple playing catchup with Samsung. Sad day.

In what sense? How exactly has Samsung demonstrated leadership? Because I'm not seeing it.

Let me rephrase my question.

If there is a phone that is 4.1" or larger... are they ignoring the entire one-handed userbase?

My point is: the Galaxy S2 was bigger than the iPhone. The Galaxy S3 was bigger than the iPhone. The Galaxy S4 is bigger than the iPhone.

Clearly Samsung doesn't believe that 4" should be the absolute maximum size for a phone.

And it's not just Samsung... there are hundreds of phones that are larger than 4"

But apparently Apple thinks that phones should never exceed 4"

So who's right?

Apple is correct on this issue. There's no compelling reason to have a huge phone..

It's a company saying in effect: "I have no ideas and nothing further to contribute on this issue"

Larger size is simply a stupid easy thing to market: "Hey look! It's bigger!.. Bigger MUST be better, right?".. It's how consumers have been conditioned for decades.

I call BS.

I want a larger iphone and i envy the 5.5 samsung galaxy in size. The idea is to carry less and make things more functional. I as a consumer would rather have a 5.5 iphone vs an iphone 5 and an ipad mini/ipad. Granted this is would cannibalize sales which is why Apple has been reluctant to go in that direction so far.

It's clear from the thread that people don't know the difference between "testing" and "producing".

This is just a slow news day story; of course they're testing things. Once would guess they're *always* testing things, it doesn't mean anything will come of it.

The iPhone is the perfect phone size honestly. If you want a laptop sized phone, get a laptop. If you want a tablet sized phone, get a tablet.

Stating the obvious here.

There's no reason to ever doubt that Apple is testing various components. Whether it's different screen sizes, processors, cameras, building materials, etc. That doesn't mean anything in regards to timing of when or even IF they make it into production.

I would really like a bigger iPad. Would make taking notes a lot easier, and it still wouldn't be bigger than a pen and paper notebook. I hope Apple decides to try it in the market, but I doubt that would happen.

Larger Screens

I would really like to see an iPhone with a larger screen, say 4.7" or 5", but would want the current resolution to stay the same. This would be very easy for Apple and Developers, because it would not require any changes in Software. The reason I want this is because as people get older, their eyesight deteriorates, and now in my mid 50's I need to use glasses to use my phone. If the on screen experience was just a little bit larger I could use it without glasses. I am sure that there are a lot of people that have the same problem. With the current generation of Retina Screens I can not see the lowered DPI being a problem either.

As for a larger iPad, the perfect device for me (to use in the house) would be the same size as a normal magazine when opened for reading (about 19" diagonal), which would give you a really great reading experience for Newspapers, Magazines and Web Pages. It would have to be thin and as light as possible, but I think that this would be the perfect sized device to replace all media currently delivered on paper.

Hope that Someone from Apple will see this and pass my comments along.

I currently have over 15 Apple products, iMacs, MBP Retina, various iPhones and iPads, so for my personal needs, that is what I would like to see.

I'd be all over a 5" Full-HD iPhone 6! After owning the Galaxy S4 for a few weeks now, there's no way I'd be able to return to a 4" iPhone.

Exactly. But since its the WSJ reporting this everyone runs with it as some big story.

probably just news to gauge interest, no actual release solidified yet

I would love an iPhone with a 4.7" screen though

Choice is good. I'd love a larger screen iPhone but wouldn't need a 13" iPad.

There is definitely a market for both though.

Yes choice is good. However, if you've lived through a post-Jobs world before, you'll remember when Apple had so many products in their lineup they become irrelevant and confusing. The company lost focus and sped towards bankruptcy.

Let's hope that isn't happening again.

5.5 is way too big for my tastes, but perhaps another 1/2 inch in height and correspondingly wider. I like that my phone easily slips into my jeans pocket and can easily be manipulated with a single hand. I don't want a mini tablet for my phone. But I know there are 1,000 strong opinions on this topic.
