This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the internet. Whether you swing to the right or the left politically, what the events of the past few days have shown all of us is that Big Tech is far too powerful an entity and seemingly beyond the reach of even the highest office. These Tech conglomerates in Silicon Valley have revealed their monopoly on our digital communication networks and the impunity they have to act as they please without repercussions, all under the guise of "it's a private company bro they can do what they want". Something needs to be done.

The point that I have often tried, and failed, to make with people is that we don’t have to use certain platforms if we don’t want to. They can’t make us. At least not yet.

If we can agree on this point, then we should also be able to agree that these companies can’t have a monopoly on our digital communication unless we give it to them.

The real issue is that far too many people are unwilling to pretend like it’s 2003 again before these companies existed. I call that an excuse. And it’s a lame one at that.

If we don’t take a stand now, where does it end? It won’t be long before these companies really do have total control over our communication UNLESS enough people are willing to put aside convenience for the sake of change.

I know it’s inconvenient to abstain from social media, but it’s not impossible. This coming from a guy who was straight up addicted to Instagram. I cannot remember the last time I posted a photo or even logged in for that matter. And, can I be honest with everyone? I am so much happier. Today, I finally began the process of actually deleting the accounts altogether.

Just try it. I dare you. See how much better you feel afterwards.

I will stop supporting apple if they do this, freedom of speech is dying for anyone with conservatives views, trump didn’t tell people to go fight, also Kamala told the rioters at blm rallies to not stop and keep going and many died that’s a lot worse and they are fine

Bye bye, snowflake.

Here's the thing, and you might experience it here your self, you can say anything you want. Yes, there is freedom of speech. The thing, sweetheart, is that companies like Twitter, and sites like MacRumors don't have to tolerate WHAT you say. You can say anything you want, but they do not have to allow others to read it. They can suspend you, and they can block you, and they can blacklist your IP address. They Do NNot Have To Allow You To Foment Violence Or Offend Other Users.

Period.

Cry all you want that you can't swing from the ceiling and spew your bile all you want. Flail your chest that Trump is blocked from inciting more idiots to overthrow the government. Any site has the RIGHT to not allow it.

Otherwise why even have a website at all. If every website had to carry everything their deranged members had to say, why even have an internet. If it's a circle jerk of negativism and banality, why do it.

I understand the BLM reason for existing. I was drawn on by a cop that thought 'kids' were safe to bully on two seperate incounters. The shoe bites the foot no matter whos foot it's on. Sorry you haven't had that experience. It scared the hell out of me. It sucks to find out those in power don't fear or respect you.

Joe Bidens america is the end of freedom
It's time for you to go away and get at least a basic education. It was OK when the US voted for Trump, but it's not OK when they vote for Biden? Why the distinction? Are 'We they people' not allowed to vote for whoever they want, whether or not you agree with them? You think Trumps America, in the form we have just witnessed, is a credible way forward for a nation that touts itself as 'developed'? If it's got to this point after four years, imagine, if you can, where the US would be after another four years of Trump - it doesn't bear thinking about. Fortunately, enough US citizens rejected Trump and all his doings and decided that a different path was preferable.
That you don't like it and disagree with them is both your right, and completely irrelevant. it's time to get comfortable with being in a minority.

It sounds like you don't really keep up with facts or history. The last time the US Capitol was breached was in 1814 by the British. That didn't happen again until.......WEDNESDAY. BY TRUMP SUPPORTERS.
And yes it was shameful and bad what happened but that’s not trumps fault, he didn’t tell people to go down and do it did he, just like kamala saying rioters don’t stop

How many republicans rioted and burned down cities for half of 2020?

Remember when Clinton lost the election to Trump, she refused to concede and then spent two months riling her supporters into a frenzy to the point they stormed and desecrated the Capitol.......... Neither do I.

When you make comparisons make sure you are comparing Apples to Apples.

(No pun intended given this is an Apple forum.)

I have a more radical idea than placing limits on freedom of speech... how about we let individuals decide where to get their information; what to read/what not to read; decide what's true/not true; and if they act on what they read in a way that harms the general public, hold them accountable... just like we've always done.

What Apple is doing is just as dangerous as the mobs that took over the streets this summer and recently on Capitol Hill, except... I don't remember Apple shutting down Twitter and FB over what happened this summer?

Bad move Apple

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
“First they came for the violent extremists” rings a little differently though, doesn’t it.

When you make comparisons make sure you are comparing Apples to Apples.

It was republicans to democrats in both scenarios, so yeah, apples to apples.

And remember the entire 4 years Trump was in office how people threatened him consistently on social media and nothing was done about it? That pesky “free speech” thing again...

If trump supporters are so evil why did no fights happen at any of his rallies and also when they said joe Biden won why was there zero problems or fights from the trump lot, if trump won the cities would of been destroyed who’s the bad side?

You’re proving my point, how do three or four people represent half of America? Are we going to apply these same standards to Harris and Biden? Or is this only an issue when it’s with the party you disagree with?

Three or four people did not invade the US Capital. It was hundreds of vermin. Some smeared poop on the walls, floors, carpets in the US Capital building. Sure it's just a building, but it's what it represents that matters. So, bye bye...

How many republicans rioted and burned down cities for half of 2020?
Since you won't answer my question, the answer is 0. BLM was peacefully protesting and they can't control what criminals will do. I suspect more people were arrested for those riots than what will happen yesterday.

Is there a line where you would leave the Trump cult? Personally, if I supported someone who ordered for small innocent children to be separated from their parents, that would have ended things for me. Looks like that wasn't enough for you. And even an actual Insurrection on US soil isn't doing it either.

You know nothing about me, and what I believe or stand for. What I know is people were applauding their behavior. Politicians were encouraging it. Mayors were denying intervention to stop it. It went on for months. One shouldn’t have to be a crazy right-winger to see that double standard.

You see no, there is no double-standard here. First, there is no equivocation between fighting for Black people not to be killed by police and attempting to disrupt the government for a President that has lied to them for his own political gain. Now don‘t get me wrong, I understand these individuals have been brainwashed and BELIEVE what they have been told - but there is no righteous cause in their actions.

Second, while people may have been applauding their behaviors (as people are applauding this behavior), leaders across the board, including the President-Elect, comdened the violence and asked for peaceful protest. To expect every individual to condemn is not realistic and you know that.

Third, intervention stopped when the police showed that they were incapable of allowing peaceful protests. Leaders across the county were placed in a horrible position. To remove those elements that were causing destruction and harm while allowing the peaceful protesting to occur. They failed. Utterly. Let’s learn from that. There will always be individuals that cause destruction if we intend to continue to allow peaceful assembly as our Constitution guarantees - we must ensure that law enforcement is trained in effective response even if that protest is against their interests (such as the protests over the summer).

Lastly, there is a real double standard that became obvious on Wednesday.

Apple is no different than any of the other big techies. If you do not agree with their point of view, off you go. Does Apple ever threaten to ban Twitter if it doesn’t clean up its act? Of course not because Apple is as liberal as Facebook Twitter and Google. Really, shame on Tim Cook and his censorship police. Whatever happened to where if you didn’t like something you just moved on with life. I consider myself a conservative but do I agree with everything that a conservative may do? Of course not. It’s life. Like I do not agree with everything a liberal may do or say but I also know they have that right.
Sorry Gene731, I'm a bit confused, in that I either don't know, or haven't been informed, what you mean by 'Liberal'. Do you think you could spare a couple of minutes and clear that up for us, so we can have a meaningful discussion on common ground? I'd be most obliged to hear your thoughts.
