Regardless of ones personal political opinion any clear thinking person understands that this is a blatant assault on our freedom of speech. Tim Cook is obviously feeling the heat of his Political Supporters. Maybe he should read a book on Joseph Stalin or Chairman Mao. The question that is raised now is.....whats next...
Why is blocking a private platform being used to glorify violence, racism and a civil war, an assault on your freedom of speech? A platform that blocks anyone not agreeing with them?

How is this app not being in your life preventing you from telling your opinion?

Remember the time when a bakery chef refused to make a gay couple their wedding cake and the Supreme Court sided with the chef? If that’s not discrimination then this isn’t either.

I'm not a constitutional expert but according to Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution it could very well have been treason.
People with more knowledge of the law than me have said it’s really not. And it’s not as if sedition and insurrection are not serious crimes anyway.

Your understanding is based on incomplete knowledge. Your/Our "Freedom of Speech" or better "Freedom of Expression" is defined in and guaranteed by the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution. It has been said many times that this Amendment ONLY protects your "Freedom of Expression" in public. Google, Apple or macrumors.com are private entities and it is totally at their discretion what postings or apps are allowed on their platforms etc.

Calling for sedition and planning acts of violence are not free speech.

I don’t completely disagree with either side but from my observation in the last 4-5 years, the right seem to use the “victim card” way more often than the left while the left seem to embrace “cancel culture” relatively more frequently than the right.
But the sad thing is that each side accuses the other of the same thing they’re doing without a hint of retrospection.

incomplete knowledge...ummm not so. what amazes me is how during the impeachment trials so many people were experts in trial law and its even more amazing how they morphed into constitutional experts today. Heh

As a private business Apple should be able to set whatever rules they see fit for their platform. However, they should, and in some respects, legally need to be consistent in their application of these rules. And this decisions is not consistent at all and their reasoning would apply to a large number of apps and services: Safari, Air Drop, Mail, FaceTime, Messages. Pedophiles will use the Camera app to make child pornography, so Apple needs to either moderate content or ban the Camera app.

How often was the phone app on an iPhone "used to plan, coordinate, and facilitate the illegal activities"? And it certainly "also appears to continue to be used to plan and facilitate yet further illegal and dangerous activities." "Our investigation has found that Apple is not effectively moderating and removing content that encourages illegal activity and poses a serious risk to the health and safety of users in direct violation of your own terms of service". Apple better submit an update to the iPhone app with a "moderation improvement plan". Phrases in quotes are directly from Apple.

Bad move Apple

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
I think I sprained my eyes from rolling them so hard. Americans are using this app to plot to kill other Americans. It's not hard understanding why Apple or Google A. Want no relation to this at all, and B. Understand it's danger.

I mean seriously, get a grip.

defund their police
Many people hear this phrase, but I believe many of them don't actually understand its meanings. It certainly doesn't mean the elimination of police departments and leaving communities without policing. Far from it. The misunderstanding and reflexive gut reaction is illustrative of how our emotions often drive our perceptions of complex social issues and losing sight of the common good. These passions prevent people from finding common ground and finding policy solutions to already complex social issues. We can begin by listening and understanding each other's perspective, provided that after what's happened, we CAN still listen to each other.

I've heard many argue that the Capitol had been breached and held by enemies of the state long before Jan. 6th.
These would be the alt-right, anti-govt, anti-American groups. What these groups never ask is what alternative government will be set up if they are so keen to "taking over"? How will this new government be better? I doubt they have any idea other than some vague weekend warrior "militia" notion of "we will take our country back." The "we" and "our" basically define their identity of a country.

If I'm wrong I'm willing to listen.

Yeah but honestly, do we REALLY need to listen deeply to the feelings and "thoughts" of white nationalists? No, no, it adds nothing of value. This scourge needs to be put down, period.

That's a lot of hyperbole. Apple can no more limit your freedom of speech than Macrumors. Regardlesss of what Apple does, you are still free to say whatever you want, and face whatever consequences your speech inspire.

You are incorrect. Many of these people argue for blatant fascist white power "Christian" rule over America. Go on Parler right now, take a look at the lovely seditious fascist criminals planning their next violent outburst, right at this very moment. If you excuse them and say they are not violent seditionists bent on overthrowing democracy, you haven't been listening to them very closely for a long while. They have made their intentions VERY CLEAR over the past four years, via their own words and the words and more importantly ACTIONS of their leader, who directly whipped them into this frenzy. There is NO place for these people in civil society. Let them crawl under rocks and go extinct once and for all.

I mean I agree with a lot of the things the movement calls for, but it’s a God awful phrase and slogan. And it’s very offputting if you hear it and don’t know what it’s about

It's ridiculous how they can censor one group and ignore hostility from another. This is straight up double standards and hypocrisy. I never reported people who threatened and attacked me because I believe in free speech. No matter how terrible it is. I don't want to become China. People applauding this don't realize they might be censored next. Give a little freedom, they'll take it all.
