How is this not a freedom of speech issue? Apple is threatening to ban an app for refusing to censor certain opinions.
Your First Amendment freedom of speech guarantee protects you from having your speech censored, or being punished for it, by the government. A person's First Amendment freedom of speech guarantees do not extend to private companies or individuals – both of who are free to stop you from saying, posting, or reproducing your speech on their property/mediums/platforms.

In other words, your First Amendment freedom of speech protections don't stop me from blocking you from putting a, for example, political sign up on my property. Likewise, someone refusing to publish something I write is not a violation of my First Amendment freedom of speech protections. And a company not allowing me a platform (whether their platform itself, or their hosting of a third-party platform altogether) to express my views is not a violation of my First Amendment freedom of speech protections. That is because these are private entities-not the government. In other words, my Constitutional First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech do not apply to them.

Anyway, this is literally taught in every sixth-grade civics class yet somehow many Americans still ask "How is this not a freedom of speech issue?" regularly. I just don't get it.

Someone plz show me a tweet or message from trump that incited violence, guess what there wasn’t any!!!

This won't end well. Do not censor apps like this. People post terrible things on Twitter... but we do not BAN THE APP?!
Twitter does not allow violence and hate. It does allow far too many lies and mistruths, but who becomes arbiter

What I find interesting is the same people who told the “right” to go on another platform when the “right” complained about censorship and suppression, are now supporting this...People literally left Facebook and Twitter like the left asked, and it still isn’t good enough. It ultimately seems like a certain group of people want anything/anyone they disagree with simply written out of existence. You can’t go around calling everyone a Nazi to avoid and intellectual conversation/debate. I can’t even wrap my mind around the Nazi comparison, that’s such a horrible thing to do. The overall generalization of groups of people is very alarming. We live in a uneducated society where the ignorant have become emboldened.

Defund the Thought Police!
This is going too far. I have defended Apple when people attack "Big Tech" for censorship. I do not believe Apple has the right to dictate to Parler what is and is not acceptable points of view to be shared on their platform.
Not points of view. Condoning and encouraging Violence and illegal activity are not allowed

Of course they do. It’s their platform. Parlor can survive perfectly fine as a website.

Well, if I’m not alone then yes he will have a hard time. There is a reason Steve Jobs wisely avoided politics.

there's a reason why homepod is part of the accessories category of Apple's quarterly financials. it's because it doesn't make Apple all that much money.

give up your iPhone and maybe you'll have a bigger (but still small) statement to make against Tim.

Maybe reign in your platform so that your users can't foment sedition against our democratic government? Can't wait for the folks who ransacked the Capitol this week to head to prison.

Sure wish some of those folks that looted, destroyed, and killed over the summer would’ve gone to prison. Oh wait, THAT crap was acceptable.

FWIW, I do not support violence or threats of violence, but I also don’t support, and am pretty sick of, double standards with this sort of speech/behavior. NO ONE condemns BLM, Antifa, or any radical left-wing groups’ speech or actions. The double standards are absolutely sickening.

As long as you get to say who the nazis are I suppose you will be happy. People like you are toxic and the continued hostility is because of your rhetoric. IMHO

Ive always found the Nazi comparison amusing, but also very sad. A good portion of the country has been convinced that anyone who isn’t left extremist is a Nazi. 150 Million Americans didn’t suddenly become KKK members. Also, I’ve found it very off putting, I can’t imagine what actual Holocaust survivors think of the comparison. You can hate Trump, but to compare your distaste for his tweets to slaughtering millions of people? A bit off base.

I will stop supporting apple if they do this, freedom of speech is dying for anyone with conservatives views, trump didn’t tell people to go fight, also Kamala told the rioters at blm rallies to not stop and keep going and many died that’s a lot worse and they are fine
So you’re saying ever conservative is a racist, confederate flag waving, alt-right neo nazi that thinks it’s perfectly ok to issue death threats and incite violence? If that really is you then kindly remove yourself from this site. Nobody wants your ilk here.

So you condone encouraging acts of violence, illegal activity and treason? Or do you agree there are limits? Oh and btw, some of the white supremacists that you don’t want called nazis are in fact self-defined neo nazis, is that hard to grasp?

Let’s be honest none of the democrats had an issue with cities being burned down and people being killed at the blm riots, but now they have another view on what happened because it’s orange man bad, trump told people to go home how is that inciting violence

Speak for yourself. I'm a democrat and I live in Minneapolis. Right wing unhinged from all over the country trashed my city. The BLM people were protesting peacefully. A lot of my friends live in the area where it all happened. Talk to anyone in the area, it's way too much info to talk about in a thread regarding a crazy man so determined to hold onto power that he incited his followers to riot in the peoples house.

I think Apple are dealing with this better than Google by giving Parler a chance to prevent an imminent loss of life. Remember that this has happened before when the Tumblr app was removed due to child abuse: https://www.macrumors.com/2018/11/20/tumblr-removed-from-app-store-child-abuse/

BTW, according to Wikipedia:

According to the screenshot Apple was referring to, there's an imminent threat in some of the content shared in the app and so Apple are merely honoring the supreme court's decision.

You’re correct, but Apple does not need to abide by Brandenburg because the First Amendment only applies to the federal and state governments.

Anyone who doesn’t believe in evil is about to learn otherwise. These people are communists and they are deadly.
Communists? In the USA? You've got to be kidding! Someone who believes that the state looking after the disadvantaged and supporting its citizens is NOT a communist. Someone who thinks that having the general population armed to the teeth is a Bad Idea is NOT a communist. Someone who thinks that people having access to affordable healthcare so that they don't die because they don't have enough money, is not a Communist. And disagreeing with One-Term Trump does not make you a Communist. It means you may be a rational, thinking person.
BTW - I currently live in an ex-Communist East European country. I have also lived in two of the top four world economies. I know the difference.
As a general point, and this is not intended as criticism of anyone in particular - if anyone, when talking about US politics, mentions the threat of Communism or Marxism in the USA, this is the surest sign that that person has, demonstrably, not the first clue what they are talking about, and their baseless opinions may be safely disregarded as infantile paranoia - which they are.

If Apple bans Parler I'm out. Will never buy an iPhone again. So glad I didn't buy a M1 device. No way I'm letting Apple dictate which apps I can or can not install on my laptop or desktop computer.
Well you’re gonna have a hell of a time finding a phone considering Google just banned Parler without even a warning. Maybe you can still find a Windows Phone on eBay?

Nah, a lot of republicans are now finally distancing themself from the fanatic trump fascists and it’s a very good thing for democracy itself that their platforms are being taken away. It’s just sad that it took this long. Could’ve prevented 5 people from dying on Wednesday.

Also the vast majority of Democrats vehemently disagreed with the riots, which were totally separate from the peaceful protests. Every elected official you can think of condemned the violence forcefully and often.

This is the “democracy “ of the neoliberals : censorship to who doesn’t think in the same way.
Censorship of condoning, encouraging and planning violent, illegal and treasonous activity? That in itself is an illegal activity it is called conspiracy. Wild cockamamie tin foil hat conspiracy theories are fine as long as they don’t promote violence, hate, illegal acts. Not hard to understand at all
