You're being unnecessarily combative. The reporting says that Apple is working to implement a universal E2E standard.

You're being combative. The report says they won't use any "proprietary encryption extensions" which is pretty much saying they won't work with google to adopt google's encryption extension. I like that they want to work with GSMA to add an encryption standard to the profile but there is already an extension they can use in the meantime.

Is it so hard to imagine why Apple would prefer to not be using Google's proprietary E2E? Would prefer to not be running all of their RCS messages through Google servers?

All messages is going to go through Google's servers if they want to communicate with Phones using Google RCS.

Also google will be implementing MLS which is another cross platform encryption protocol. Apple can also adopt that if they want and it will be cross platform with Google without them working directly with Google.

The European Union, for example, has been working on legislation that would have required Apple to make changes to iMessage to make it available on other platforms. With RCS, iMessage will no longer have as many benefits that are unavailable cross-platform.
I will not replace iMessage with RCS or other messengers, and as far as iMessage has come, I don't see hardly any other advantage as a US citizen in replacing it with something else.

Didn’t Nothing just announce their Chats app with support for iMessage on Androids?

The timing of this RCS news is very interesting :p

Yea green would be a bad choice becaus, as I'm shore you know, green means ( at keast currently) this message might cost money to reply to, so I would say ( unless rcs is be a billed service) that green is not the colour to pick some kind of lighter blue maybe, or just blue if rcs will be free
I’d love to see some purple bubbles!!

Or even a version of the grey ones that we already get when talking to Apple Support;

There will be nothing to "replace". RCS will just run within iMessage when you communicate with another non-Apple user who has an RCS compatible device. You can choose to turn it off if you want, but all that will do is put you back to the old SMS protocol for that particular chat.

As has already been stated, Google's e2e encryption extension to RCS is not proprietary.

While I don’t care about this news either way, I can’t believe that the bubble colour is a thing that people have been upset about. I mean I text iPhone users with iMessage but also messenger and whatsapp and I text android users with sms and messenger and WhatsApp. It won’t make any difference.

Google implemented E2E in its ever-changing messaging app only 2 years ago. Apple has had encryption in its messaging app for a decade. Google acting like they're the leader in this field is funny, and you acting like Apple is acting recklessly by not simply letting Google control all messages sent from an iPhone is simply unrealistic.

Imagine Apple announcing to its user base "we have this new messaging feature and when you use it, Google will be controlling all of those messages." Apple was never goign to do this, and Apple customers were never going to accept this. I suspect Apple has been waiting until is was viable to use an independent implementation of E2E on RCS.

I don't know this for a fact, and neither do you. If this gets implemented on the carrier side, then it would have no need to traverse google servers.
I know this for a fact because that is how it works. If Apple spins up their own RCS server, it has to connect to Google's Jibe for both services to work and RCS messages to be sent. Any message you send to someone using the Google messages app has to go through Google Jibe network otherwise it gets sent via carrier sms network.

I don't know why apple was so against this at first. This is good for everyone.
They weren't. Like the Tim Cook quote plainly said, it wasn't high on their priorities list. Apple simply doesn't care about Android users or Windows users for that matter.

Respectfully, you are likely not in the demographic where this is a problem. This is a very big problem among US school age children. Most communication now goes through electronic devices. Much of it in IMessage group chats. If you don't have an iPhone, you simply do not get to be part of the conversation. Kids routinely get kicked out of group chats, because non IMessage users cause the entire group chat to become severely handicapped, by all the features if Imesaage getting disabled

What’s with the US refusal to use WhatsApp? It’s what the rest of the world does.
It's not a refusal. It's simply the path of least resistance. If 100 of your classmates are already all using IMessage to communicate, you're not going to be able to get them all to switch because and you would end up with a worse situation (with respect to communication) than you had before. That's why there's so much pressure on kids to get an iPhone

And this alone is why we need message interoperability. The most effective form of bullying is exclusion, and Apple have been using this as a business strategy. Thank God its only a US problem.

Funny enough, I had a feeling they would adopt it sooner rather than later... Searched on X/Twitter 2 days ago to see if there was any buzz, looks like I made it happen. 😏
