Never thought this was gonna happen. I really didn't care for it, because I'm an Apple sheep and don't care for green bubbles, but I am glad that Apple did this. That should make a lot of people happy. I thought that was never going to happen, because Apple wants to keep Android texting inferior enough that more people would want to switch to Apple

I actually have an android device as well but I don’t really know how this even works like does your provider have to support it? Do you have to enable it? Or does it automatically use it when you start sending files instead of just texts? Confused. I never used MMS because it was discontinued years ago and before that it was like 49 cent per message

I would bet apple does something stupid like "adopt" RCS but intentionally hide features like typing indicators and replies, just because.

So stupid. I guess crying and complaining does work. Google needs to work on making their own products better rather than complaining about Apple's success. Many times, I have made fun of Apple for having an inferior keyboard, app icon layout, etc. But Apple deserves their success for their innovation. Google is just sad in this respect.
Repeat after me.

This makes messaging people who have Android devices better for iPhone users as you get all the same imessage features when texting people on android. You no longer have to send low quality videos and pictures when you text android users, you can now properly react to messages with android users without getting that stupid "x liked your text" messages. And potential for E2E encryption if they implement Google RCS extension.

Its a good thing.

See?? I told yall if they adopted RCS it would be the UP and not Google's version. So it really doesn't amount to anything unless Google's will cross-communicate with UP, which I haven't seen whether it will or not. But beyond that, it's still up to your provider to adopt it on their end or it doesn't matter.

I know that iPhone users will be able to know if messages were sent/received as iMessages if the messages are blue. But if both SMS messages and RCS messages are green, then how will iPhone users be able to know which messages were sent/received as SMS or RCS? Will RCS messages be shown in a new and different (third) color?

prob will be a different color?

Knowing Apple, they will never do anything 1) that is not in their best financial interest to do, 1A) that does not exploit popular ideas of virtue for their own gain, 2) that they are not forced to do by regulations, or 3) that they are not ordered to do by China. Since it's not #2, then either their analysis has made #1 or #1A the reason or it is #3.

Apple's MO. One of these or a combination of these will explain almost every decision.

Read carefully…
“the standard as currently published by the GSM Association.”

Carriers that have adopted RCS will get native support, I’m guessing, in the Messages app. It doesn’t say anything about non-carrier solutions that currently depend on apps. :)
All major carriers and phone manufacturers have adopted Googles RCS messaging app as standard. Also its still compatible with universal profile, they just added some extensions on top like E2E encryption. It tells you right in the app if you're messaging someone with standard rcs or e2e encrypted rcs.
