Avoid this was a bad look for Apple, and blew apart what they claim about not locking people into the ecosystem but instead selling iPhones only on quality.
This also probably means that iMessage is going to get some major new features that quantum leap it ahead. It might even mean that iMessage will no longer exist. Ooh, I wonder if Apple's going to try and unify messaging...? Email, messages, and other things all in one app? It's about time. It's a PITA trying to find a message from a loved one or colleague across several different apps.

I am an Android user and never used RCS so far. I would have to google how to do it. If it involves Google servers, I hope there is a way to opt out.
Google just paid apple an unannounced 20 billion dollars.

LOL, nice. Literally the day after Nothing announces their support for iMessage on their knockoff Android iPhone copies.
This is nothing but politics at play. Google strong armed Apple into this, no doubt. It wouldn’t surprise me if we come to find out that Google put pressure on the regulators (aka bribed) to force this to happen. Apple has been adamantly against RCS from the get go, this does nothing but make Google even more powerful as they have unfettered access to everyone’s messages and will feed even more data to their Ad empire.

The rich can afford owning an iPhone AND an Android device, and still want both in group chats. It’s you poor shmucks who can only afford just an iPhone.
Doesn't matter on android side what color the bubbles end up being. If they can get typing indicators/read status/high quality videos/images/reactions then its a win.
Me neither, what really confuses me is how for years the messages icon in macOS was blue, and then they changed it to green like the iPhone icon. If anything the iPhone should have gotten the blue macOS messages icon!
Anyways it’s about time they do this, I’m sick of having to email even the shortest video files back and forth to people with androids because of the horrible quality.
What’s next? Is Apple going to give us root access in iOS 18 so we can finally customize our phones that we own?? 🤞🤞
They have to do something to differentiate between iMessage and RCS. I say keep RCS green!
When did anyone at Apple ever say the colors had anything to do with status? It’s just stupid clickbait from sites like the Verge that want to make it seem like the green bubble is lower-class or that people are bullied/made fun of because their bubble is green in a group text. It’s so stupid.
I'd rather be poor and only own an iPhone, rather than be morally bankrupt, and own an Android.
