Oh wow...I was just about to order a maxed out 2015 15" off apples online store and pay full price since I was not happy with the lag in the 2016 model. I'm now going to wait for June 5th, this is exciting news.

Just ordered a 16gb 2015 15" for $1600. Think I'll return to BB. Still within the 15 days

Yes they will totally do that, in addition to bringing the headphone port back to iPhones.

See, the thing about removing the headphone jack is that it actually makes sense to get rid of old standards. But the SD card isn't an old standard! It should never have been removed to begin with, and it should be put back where it belongs: on the MacBook Pro.

The problem is the 3.5mm jack isn't really considered an old standard. I know it's been around for decades, but the 3.5mm headphone jack is the de-facto analogue audio port across not only phones, but virtually all technology that uses analogue audio over the last several decades.

And there's been no suitable alternatives that have been presented. There's nothing wrong with coming up with digital standards, and try moving forward with them as well, But no matter what, at some point, audio must be turned into analogue signal to be heard. And it's generally easier to do this in your device, and not externally. So that's why the 3.5 mm jack is still needed today. At least until the entire world decides to change their analogue audio ports together.

"Sales of the MacBook Air "remain surprisingly strong" due to its affordability."

Actually, they remain strong because its SSD isn't soldered to the motherboard so upgrades (or repairs!) are a snap and don't require a new mobo. As well, the Retina density isn't needed when you've got a 1440x900 13" display. Oh, and what about lots more ports? Frankly, the Air is a much better machine than the MacBook.

The general users / consumer out there doesn't care about any of that. Only us Geeks here do ;)

I like the Air - but the current MBP - with all it's faults - is, IMHO a much better machine. Speed, Display, capacity. No comparison for me. The ports don't bother me (i jumped from the Air to the MB before the MBP), but certainly understand if you have dependencies there.
MBP does have a 'lot' of ports....

It would take courage to do a CPU speed bump only upgrade, so I'm wary as courage seems to be all that apple has anymore.

They need a reasonably priced 32gb option with a decent gpu. Base models also need to have at least as good battery life as the 2013/2015 models. If they miss those, they might as well pack up their market share and go home. A price cut across the board and non touch bar models (for those that dont need an expensive gimmick) at all performance levels would be nice.

I still think they should release the 2015 form factor with Kaby lake, 32gb, MagSafe, a big honkin battery and a top end mobile gpu. Call it the MacBook power user edition .

Or the MacBook Pro SE (a guy can dream right?)

Let's get rid of the ac outlet standard while we're at it. It's old so it must be inferior and useless, right?

My biggest beef is that I can't charge and use headphones without having an albino octopus hanging out of my pocket. And no, Bluetooth headphones Arent an option. When they have16 hours of battery life and full noise cancellation features, they might be.

PowerBook ?

And to exactly the same universal digital standard.

Well said.

Let's just pull the band-aid off now, gents.

Mag safe isn't' coming back. Neither are USB-A ports. It hurts. But there it is.
Right, the new MBP Mag safe won't come till Nov and all the June people will be complaining I bought the updated spec MBP but why o why didn't I wait for Nov...and the cycle continues.

17" MBP 2011 weighs 3kg.

GTX 1080 laptops are heavier than that because of primitive engineering and/or the cooling necessary.
Lol... Yeah, whatever budy...
Meanwhile apple is selling underclocked/underpowered laptop at 3 times the sticker price... But it does comes with emojis and dongles, such marvel of engineering.

Why? How does Bloomberg make it an official leak? They won't release all that hardware at WWDC.
I bet a lot of this won't be covered on stage...the Apple store will go down and when it comes back up later that day you will see updated specs on models for purchase right away. Remember the physical laptop is not changing only the specs inside.
[doublepost=1494980570][/doublepost]Ok so we have 20 more days.....just sayin'
:)
[doublepost=1494980765][/doublepost]This news is all over the web...I just saw 3 articles on it from my news feed besides this one.

So if Apple does updated the MBP to kaby lake what will Apple be able to legally say on their website for the MBP, 'now updated to the kaby lake processor 15% faster and 1 extra hour of battery life?

I'm just guessing above, but those that are more knowledgeable about kaby lake, what can Apple legally say we will benefit from having kaby lake?

Yeah I'd be surprised if this even gets announced more then just a presentation slide, and/or as much time as Intel has negotiated or paid Schiller to mention the words "Kaby Lake" a few times.

No new features, just showcasing the new MacOS, and, spec bumps around the Intel chip and that's it.

The Siri speaker and the development around that, and then a new IPad form factor to try and get the tablet developers back on board (along with a new Apple Pencil) will be the only significant new hardware being given any sort of presentation time IMO at the Developers conference. But spec bumps probably to a few things that will get little or no mention and just pop up in the Apple Store when it comes back online.

What I am saying is that a proper 17" MBP would weigh 3kg and probably have 1060 too (proper means that you can install a hard drive, among other things).

There's a difference between expecting and wishing. I don't expect Apple will bring it back, but I wish they would because it was the best power connector ever made.

Just wondering.

It would have been cool if Intel and Apple could have gotten together for a MagSafe enabled Thunderbolt 3 connector. As much as I liked MagSafe, the Thunderbolt 3 connections over USB-C are what brought me over to laptop-only. I sold my 5k iMac last week and I have a FULLY loaded 15" MacBook Pro coming tomorrow. I've been a desktop guy for years, but the TB3 will really open things up for me. Looking forward to it.

And that 3.1GB/s read and 2.1GB/s write speed on the 2TB SSD will be quite nice :)
