I think the touchbar-less MBP is being positioned as the new MacBook Air.The Macbook Air is dead. Its not coming back, there is no reason with the 12" Macbook and the 13" Macbook Pro both being smaller than it.

I think since apple needs to come with amd 500 series into the 15"View attachment 700030 Was just checking out AMDs website, AMD Financial Analyst Day and all that, after they 'officially released the RX 500 series of cards and I noticed that they have what appears to be a MacBook in their hero image. A hint at what's coming?!
Still, they did announce quite a bunch of products during WWDC events in the past. Like numerous users have pointed out already, it has primarily been software-centered for the past three iterations. All of the events that have fallen in this category and predate 2015 (hence those going from 2014 and further back still) have had at least some hardware announcements. It would, in a way, make perfect sense to announce hardware aimed at professional users during an event that is mainly geared toward people who feel themselves being part of this exact group.I certainly don't. The smart speaker perhaps could happen. The iPad and Mac updates are highly unlikely. WWDC is primarily developer based and I can't see Apple drawing this much attention away from the true meaning of WWDC.
I am stepping away from the "Just purchased a MacBook Pro" thread right about....now.
Seems too much HW for a WWDC......
No thanks. Having 2 models is good. Just get rid of the MBA as it's just outdated (although I still own mine from 2011). But having a form factors is good have one consumer Mac with option to become pro-sumer and one other Mac that's oriented to pro's and has all the necessary power and necessary upgrades.
Let's just pull the band-aid off now, gents.
Mag safe isn't' coming back. Neither are USB-A ports. It hurts. But there it is.
MBA might not be dead? Hmmm, howabout FHD, 16Gt RAM option and kaby lake.. would buy a one instantly!!!
Just moving from Skylake to Kaby Lake in the MB and MBPs can be done with a press release. Doesn't even have to mentioned in the keynote. And the timing is certainly right for them to get Kaby Lake (the MB is overdue unless Apple now decides to always skip a processor generation in all their products, and the MBP would also fit if Apple returned to a roughly yearly update cycle with the 2016 MBP simply being several months late). Are we suppose to believe that Apple will announce a Siri speaker, iPad Pro 10.5" AND an update to MacBooks at WWDC? an event that for the last 3 years they have used to show off software only!
If you right off the bat mention your desire to have 16GB RAM in an Apple product, you don't fit the MBA market niche. People that are in the market for a MBA are... 1) They do not need/want all the bells and whistles. 2) Basic use - they want to surf the internet, put an email together, do their school work, and occasionally stream stuff online. Pair it up with an Apple TV, you are good to go. 2.1) They do not care about having Retina display. 3) They do not want to deal with adapters (as opposed to 12" MacBooks + $300 more in price). 4) For basic use, it offers good longevity for the intro/average user. 5) They get a similar battery life. 6) The MBA niche do not really care about what generation processor they get. 7) The MBA is a great laptop for a first time Apple user (think HS/college kids, senior citizens or someone switching from Windows) to find their way around and get a better understanding of what Apple products can do.
I also think that the existence of the MBA 13" (GF2) and MBP 13" (839 model from 2015) are correlated. As long as there are occasional sales that bring down the price of the 839 down to $1099 or $1149, people will consider getting the 839 for an extra $100/150 instead of the GF2 for the "extra" features.
Kind regards,
I am inclined to think that they would do a "silent" update too. I just hope the new chips are cooler when used intensively. This may resolve the clicky keyboard issue of the MacBook Pros 2016 as reported by some here.Macs used to get refreshed multiple times per year, until the last abnormally long cycle. There would be nothing unusual at all about a silent spec bump around June, but I don't see them announcing it at WWDC. The spec bumps would just go live on the store, as they always have in the past.
Sales of the MacBook Air "remain surprisingly strong" due to its affordability.
Please God bring back Magsafe.

I agree, but with all due respect you are one of the outliers. I am NOT saying "you can't do a,b,c,d" or "you shouldn't be buying a MBA to do a,b,c,d"; I am simply stating that the MBA has its own market, just like any other MacBooks do.Not really true -- I use the MacBook Air for coding, prototyping Tensorflow code, etc. I even took a course in High Frequency Trading from Stanford and ran my HFT machine learning models on the device natively. The Air is great cause it's light and doesn't suck (they didn't replace it's good keyboard with a crappy excuse for a keyboard yet) and has great battery life. I'd love the Retina Display on the Air.
What is slow about the current rMBP?macBookPro Wish List -
- 32BG / 64GB RAM options on macBook "Pro"
- Cheaper.
- Faster CPU
- Better Battery Life
- Nvidia GPU options
Come on!
This is still a thing people are expecting? MagSafe was cool, but you must realize that's long gone right?
