If they update the MBP with a better battery and other features besides just Kaby Lake, I'll feel pretty stupid about buying the 2016 model. First they go almost two years without updating the MBP and now it's less than a year later.

I kind of hope they do come out with some hardware just so the "WWDC is software only" people can S.T.F.U.
I'm sure it is just Kaby Lake. Not a significant performance increase at that level. It is a bigger deal for the 12" MacBook since they extracted a larger clock speed gain in percentage terms. Clock for clock Kaby Lake and Skylake are equal.

I highly doubt they update the MacBook Pro this soon.
It's just a new processor. They did the same thing in July 2011 when they switched the MacBook Air (significantly updated in October 2010) from Core 2 to Sandy Bridge.

As a relatively new MacBook Pro owner, if we are looking at a processor upgrade, what sort of impact does that typically have on existing prices? Non at all if it is a seamless transition?

Depends on seller and how much they want to move "old" stock. When the 16 came out some had nice deals on the 15. Now I have seen brick and mortar walk in sellers use this as a lure to get in the store and the ice breaker to say but you know we have this here.....bit.

like an SD card slot, used by all the PRO CAMERAS in the world right now...

I understand and share most of the general sentiment of your post but just to clarify, professional cameras use CF and Cfast cards. Some have dual slots and can take SD cards but the standard in top tier / pro gear is still CF.

The Macbook Pro sans Touch Bar *is* for all intents and purposes, the new Macbook Air. This should be the model students look to if they want a solid, cheap education machine. But, its very confusing, because shouldn't the Macbook have been the model that came up to replace the Macbook Air, not the Pro?

I think it's highly possible the 13" MBP sans touchbar could be re-modelled and rebranded as the New Macbook Air. Apple know Air is (today) synonymous with value and performance, its a strange move to have this model badged as a Pro as they recently have done.

The Macbook serves as the ultimate in thin and light, and thats all really. But thats more of a business-persons use-case on tray tables and in board meetings. The Macbook Air, for its part, is still a workhorse, and the non-tb 13" MBP serves this purpose also.

I think its fair to say that since the introduction of the Macbook, the entire MB line-up has been confused. It really needs to settle and find its footing again. Hope this happens at WWDC.

And FWIW, i think the Macbook will get the Touch Bar at WWDC.

It would take courage to do a CPU speed bump only upgrade, so I'm wary as courage seems to be all that apple has anymore.

They need a reasonably priced 32gb option with a decent gpu. Base models also need to have at least as good battery life as the 2013/2015 models. If they miss those, they might as well pack up their market share and go home. A price cut across the board and non touch bar models (for those that dont need an expensive gimmick) at all performance levels would be nice.

I still think they should release the 2015 form factor with Kaby lake, 32gb, MagSafe, a big honkin battery and a top end mobile gpu. Call it the MacBook power user edition .

Make that the 2012 non-retina form factor with Kaby lake, 32gb, MagSafe, a big honkin battery and a top end mobile gpu ....

I get that some photographers use MBP but i have zero need for a SD card slot, i'd rather get a reader out of the drawer when i get home personally, i like the USB-c cable design, i just wish one of them had some sort of magsafe on it, surely apple could come up with a USB-c cable and magsafe together?

Probably never going to happen but i'd like to see a no internal GFX card option on the top teir MBP and an Apple eGPU solution, it could keep the macbook slightly cheaper and you could pick to update either the laptop ore graphics a card quicker

Or Our at least active support for eGPUs. With USB-C/TB (done), 32GBs of RAM (rumored), and eGPU support (please make it so), the MBP line becomes a monster.

How amazing would it be if they just announce the minor CPU update, but then launched eGPU support and an actual eGPU enclosure. I would love Apple forever if they did this as it would solve all my computing problems in one hit.
TB3 output direct from the enclosure too would be very nice.

I have no idea why they wouldn't support it and it certainly wasn't dismissed by Schiller in their chat.

You are right - the MBP line totally becomes a monster. They have the option to do this - so just friggin do it Apple.
