Sounds reasonable. An ad on the back of Time Magazine years ago was $1,000,000. This is 20 years later. This is with an interactive medium. A prime ad would be worth far more.

I'm sure they'll also have sub-prime ads. There will be a whole range.

So this pretty much leaves out all those (smaller) developers who were clapping when Steve introduced iAds... unless they can pony up a cool million. This seems to be targeting the larger, corporate "evil" companies. $2 bucks for a view? If I don't like a company, I'll keep on viewing their ads just to hit them with a loss.

Excuse me, we are not talking about developers paying for ads. We are talking about developers making money from these ads. If let's say Ford pays $1 million for an iPhone ad, most of the money will go to developers small and big whose users click on the advert.

Makes sense... everyone is going to be viewing these interactive ads as soon as they come out. When the novelty of it wears off it will get cheaper.

I DO NOT WANT ADS POPPING UP ON MY PHONE.

I'm highly interested in the iPhone 4G but if it will have ads then I will be sticking with my BB.

Can we have pop-up blocker for the iphone OS? I don't want ads poping up either. I deleted some apps and sent some developers nasty emails and reviews, as they were programming games aimed at younger kids and all of a sudden with an update, there are:

ads for beer
ads with scantily clad women and men
ads that ambiguously promote sexuality

I am a pastor who preaches against this stuff, and now we have these ads showing up in games? would you even beleive i deleted an app I paid for because it had adds.

I hope this iAd results in NO ADS on the iphone apps, unless you specifically click an iAd app to see them - then it should also have age warnings, etc.

Plus, can you imagine those who sign up for the 250mb data plan for their ipads having all their mb's used up by adds before they can use an app?

Heck to the NO!!!! iAds better be a separate app with the option of disabling or only seeing ads if I click on it. AND I DO NOT WANT ADS ON A PREMIUM DEVICE LIKE THE IPAD!!!!!

As a developer this sounds like heaven. If these prices pan out it could very well make a free app a far better decision for a developer then a paid one and we all know people download way more free apps.

Companies who waste their $$ on advertising on mobile phones totally waste their money imo.. Does ANYONE EVER click those stupid ads? In my whole life of owning many cell phones and macs and PCs I have never clicked single ad.. More so I never even paid 1 second of attention what that banner said..

Same here - I never clicked any ads. But I have ordered iPhone adds (quattrowireless) in attempt to promote my app. Why are they clicked so much, with no purchases? Has anyone heard about click-bots on iPhone?

How do I get a click bot? If companies are going to be sending ads to my iphone and ipad- which I pay a hefty premium for (Device, Monthly data plan, purchased apps); then you bet your socks I want a click bot that will send millions of click to these ads, so that they are charged $2 a peice for them wasting my bandwith, my user experience, my productivity, etc.

I get enough bombardment of ads on TV, the radio, and websites I visit. Last I need is for them to be pushed to me on my iphone. I have popup blockers activated on all my computers (but some of those sneaky buggers know how to circumvent them).

Could you imagine ads on an ipad?

1. College student starts up app to take notes or to study.
2. All of a sudden out comes a blaring ad.
3. Ipads suddenly banned from all libraries, schools, and universities because they are a distraction.

These big fees will mean that payers will want something for their money; which will likely be more intrusive ads eventually.

Absolutely certain. Worse yet the ads will popup even when you don't click on them. I can see it now; I'm listening to a romantic song and it gets interrupted by a screaming commercial with video for condoms.

Yup...

....another thread where a great number of Macrumors posters show that they have no clue on how businesses are run.

They are not going to be popping up on your phone. They are ads in the apps, and will only be there if the developer chooses to turn them on.

A good amount of free apps already have ads in them anyway. iAds will be no different then how things are now. They will just be more interactive.

$1 Million for ad placements really isn't that much when you think about it. With the number of iPhones/iPod Touch/iPad's around it probably will be pretty simple for apple to serve a billion ad impressions per day.

So Companies would be getting there AD in front of many eyes for really not that much (To a big company)

yeah that's pretty awesome. I wanna get bot like this too that would do 100k clicks with 0 purchases/downloads even if product/app is free :D:D

Are people really this upset with iAd? Admob already exists in a great deal of the free apps. iAd will simply replace a lot of those.

Ads on the iPhone and iPad are FAR less intrusive than almost everything else in your life. Look at the very first thing on the page of the forums. It's an ad. Look between the posts, ads.

Now look up from your computer at your TV. Half of the tv show is advertisement breaks, and then inside the TV shows there is product placement and everything else like that.

Sorry there are so many ads in your home, maybe you should leave. Drive far far away from your home. Luckily you won't see any ads out on the open road.... oh wait.

Ads pretty much only exist in free applications on the iPhone, even many of the free apps don't contain ads. Is it really that big of a deal? Apps cost money to develop, we can't expect developers to just take that hit on the apps with no money.

In all of my apps I offer the ability to use the apps without ads, and for only $.99. That means you can pretty much buy all of my apps without any ads for less than the price of a sandwich from a restaurant.

Let's all just pump the breaks here.

You obviously have no idea what capabilities developers have on this platform. The closest thing you're going to get to a ClickBot is to hand your phone to a five year old and tell them to keep tapping the pretty picture.

What about jail-broken iPhones? They can run another app in the background. Would it be capable of sending clicks to the app that hosts ads? I'm just curious, cause it's hard to believe that all those empty clicks on my ads were "human".

This is bloody great news! I can't wAit for ads to pop up in os x
how about audio ads in the middle of songs too...
Maybe emailed ads on MobileMe... Oh wow it'll be great!
Moat adz!
