Sales of iPhones will drop dramatically from now on. The reason is that most carriers did away with contracts and suddenly in consumer's mind iPhones somehow don't cost just "$200" like they did before.

Consumers and masses don't care about installment pricing or anything like that, all they see is sticker price.

All they know is this: iPhones somehow cost $749 versus just $199 they used to cost previously, and instantly the decision is made to buy an Android phone. Very very few consumers will buy a freaking phone for $749, installment or not.

Most consumers don't notice a difference between iOS and Android, therefore they will choose the cheaper option.
In fact the reason iPhone took off was because of contracts, no really Apple invented heavily subsidized pricing model with their mandatory $30 data plan option back on 2008.

When people are tricked into thinking that both iPhone and Android costs the same $199 they will choose the iPhone, but when the sticker price reads $749 they will most definitely choose Android.

Apple is up for a rude awakening in 2016. Apple's trickery with $199 dollar iPhone is finally exposed in consumers' minds.

I upgraded. I bought a 6S+ and a 6S and still am using my 6+. I'm not seeing any difference in the battery life between my 6+ and 6S+. Both are giving me between 2-3 days standby with 7-10 hrs usage. I don't use the 3D touch all that much but the speed and extra RAM make the difference. I don't like however that my Safari tabs no longer refresh upon switching to them, I have to do that now.
Isn't the extra RAM supposed to remedy the tab refreshes? What speed improvements could you possibly attribute to the RAM and not the processor if your phone is not refreshing tabs?

Yeap... a shallow management with no creativity and lack of a coherent user interface, now, to do anything takes a load of steps. That is something Steve Jobs had under control, no any more.

Apple is doing just as Hollywood, doing prequels, sequels and remakes. Lack of creativity "lets just burn out what we know has worked, lets vandalize what we have".

When he wrote 'DOOOMED' he was being sarcastic (I think). Making fun of us skeptics,

But I agree with your take. I think a lot the Apple defenders on this site will look back in a couple years at this era and realize it was the turning point (downward) for the company we all once loved.

Design as horrid as last year, marginal performance improvements, gimmicky 3D touch feature and even worse battery. Least exciting update to date.

Jony Ive in particular needs to step it up.

I really worry about the future of Apple since Steve died.

The Apple Battery Case raised the alarm for me in a big way. I think it damages Apple's brand.

I fear that Apple's current immense treasure chest, huge revenues and profits are no guarantee of their long-term success. I think that there are three main weaknesses facing Apple today:

1. The smartphone revolution is essentially over. The West is saturated. Even the third world is rapidly approaching maturity. Until the next seismic leap in technology, iteration is the name of the game, which means PC lifespans and lower sales.

2. Steve Jobs really mattered. His vision and passion meant that he captured the imagination of the public. Tim Cook has failed to achieve this.

3. Steve Jobs has died. He was the captain of Apple; he steered and inspired his team like no-one else. This was crucial, I think, and made all the difference. Take Jony Ive: here is a highly talented designer, whose gifts Jobs brought out and heightened. But without Jobs, Ive doesn't have a guide to channel him, so we get little mistakes like the jutting camera on the iPhone 6, and big mistakes like the Apple Battery Case.

I wonder who will take up the gauntlet of Steve Jobs. Maybe no-one. It has been amazing to live through the advent of the iPhone and iPad.

My gut feeling is that we have lived through a Golden Era of Computing, and that tech is now going to take a more mundane role in our lives; the light will shine less bright. Thanks Apple for the light nonetheless.

So you dont know any difference with the Ram ? Do you have a 6S or 6S Plus ?

I was thinking about getting the 6S Plus and performance improvement from the ram was the main factor.

but there's seems to be a good amount of people here who are saying it's not that much different.:oops:

I have a 6S+ after the 6+, the new chip, ram, and 128 memory, the speed is VERY noticeable, I am very pleased with this upgrade

Eventually there will be a point where you can't tell the difference anymore. Apple is slowly approaching this and they try to strip features so that they can hype people to keep buying iPhones.

I'm still using an iPhone 6 Plus, but (for those using a 6S) was Force Touch and a better camera vast improvements for you to have upgraded? And how's the extra RAM helping you?
The only thing that is really worth the upgrade is the RAM. Everything else is just for future proofing, so you won't feel really bad when the technology matures like the 3D Touch but it's not quite there yet. Just enjoy your iPhone 6 still a very good phone 3 years down the road. Enjoy the moment taking more photos is better than having the newer camera. When the time you decide to upgrade (not on iPhone6s) I'm sure you'll be happy.

3D Touch keyboard? I have a 6S Plus and did not know about this. How does it help?

Pull up an email or other document to write or edit. With the keyboard on the screen use your thumb to press hard anywhere on the keyboard. The keyboard will go grey, and the area that it's in will become a "trackpad," allowing you to move the cursor anywhere you want in your email or document.

Upgrading from a 4s running iOS 9 the performance boost was not doubt very noticeable but do I feel like it was worth paying almost 900 euros? Hell no. Do I feel like I got a blazing fast device in my hands? No I don't. It is no doubt a good phone with plenty of features which you can rightfully call a computer in your pocket but in all honesty all I got is a larger 4s that works like should (since iOS 9 killed my device). 3D touch is a nice feature that offers very little functionality for now, I never find myself wanting to use the pop and peek feature but I've heard people who use Instagram a lot saying that they really like it. I occasionaly use the shortcuts such as "New Tab" ins Safari or "Take a Selfie" in the Camera App, but this feature alone is absolutely not worth upgrading to 6s. On top of it all I feel like 6s is gonna age much sooner that previous devices, I got a hunch that it was not made to last more than a couple of generations ahead. As for the extra RAM I can't compare it to 6 all I can say is that Safari won't crash even with 20 open tabs while on 4s it would crash within 10 secs of browsing.

Yup.. Apple goes around and asks their suppliers to sign a “Disclosure” agreement to make sure that they all discloses Apples Plans to the world.
Included in the Disclosure agreement package are the names of every Analysts and reporter , their phone numbers .. Email… And an invitation to dinner for the purpose of disclosing !

It's an S model. Most of us have contracts ending this year. Sales for the 7 will pick up again.

Part of that depends on how millions currently on contract deal with the post-contract world. The iPhone 7/7+ will most likely have the same screen sizes so "bigger screen" won't be something special this year. I have a feeling that iPhone 7 sales after the Sept.-Nov. rush won't be much better. Of course Apple could sweeten the offer by reducing prices, but it's Apple. Anyway, welcome to a mature smartphone market and post-contract world, good or bad.

Oh, waily, waily, the end is nigh! Apple is doomed. Dooooooooomed!
No way, instead of moving up they move latterly. New products to overprice. Plus lets not forget they can buy all their competitors out so i say if they were doomed, its not going to be because of the iPhone they would have to mess something else up.

Sounds like a 5 minute trip to the Apple Store could've told you what you needed to know. Why did you even buy it?

Mostly because my 16GB 6 is full, and I wanted more space so I could stop managing it so closely. But the other things added to the 6S are not worth $300 for me, even with the extra space. I'll live with 16GB until the 7.

Maybe a drop in sales (bottom line) might finally get Apple to listen to its customers for a change? The performance of the new iPhone is just fine. The problem it has (as do all iDevices) is in comparison to Android. They have caught up (more or less).

Apple, how about taking a break with your obsession with thin, and give us a bigger battery? How about finally providing some sort of App that allows access to the damn file system? (Not iTunes, which has become a big turd.) How about bringing back Scott Forstall (who was right) and fixing the now terrible UI. How about offering an entry level model with 32GB of storage instead of 16 (an obvious low ball crap move noticed by everyone). How about making it easier to get data on and off the device (aka file system)? Apple you also have a marketing/sales problem - just like in the PC world, all the local stores are promoting your competition instead of your devices - obviously you've done something wrong.

I bought an iPhone 6s, so I'm not coming at this as an outsider naysayer, I'm coming at this from real world experience. Apple, wake up and get outside of your Cupertino bubble.

I think bringing Forstall back would be a great idea, but would he want to go back?

I also think Cook needs to go asap, I don't deny hes clever, but he hasn't got the vision or direction to take Apple any further.

It's wicked fast, so maybe the RAM is helping that much. The camera is gorgeous according to my friends who already have the iPhone 6. And the 3D Touch is…. well, it takes time getting used to. Some people will adjust themselves and adopt it quickly, others might consider it a gimmick for some time to come. But even if you never like 3D Touch, it doesn't get in the way of anything else. 3D Touch does not "accidentally" get in your way, since the amount of pressure needed to activate it is an intentional and purposeful amount required.

Cook is an excellent COO, and he did a lot of great things when he came along in the late 90's/early 2000's, but Apple needs someone like Jobs as CEO. Someone who cares more (or just as much) about user experience than he does bottom line. I am not convinced that Cook cares that much about the user experience. Apple products and accessories are now overpriced like fashion goods, not consumer electronics. Look at the iPad Pro cases: $160 to cover the front and back. In plastic. INSANE. There's always been an Apple Tax but I don't think it's ever been this flagrant.

Exactly. An iPhone on VZW is $27 a MONTH. An equivalent Android phone is $18 cheaper (the S6). PER MONTH. That's real savings, every month, for 2 years. No longer are the Samsung and the iPhone the same price. You can get a Note 5 for less money than you can an iPhone 6S 16GB. If this story is true, then I'd say this is the reason why.

I was wondering about sales..
Never seen so many discounts from retailers on an iPhones before as there has been on the 6s/6s+.

It´s basically been on sale (≈$150-200 off) since a few weeks after launch..

Opening apps and other things is much faster, especially unlocking the phone. It don't matter if it's the RAM or the processor, it's still faster.
