Themeable UI. This will allow the return of apps like shapeshifter. I LOVED my themeable mac back in the day.

Truly Scalable UI. This will be built in to Cocoa, this will allow ILife, Cal, Finder and mail to look spectacular in...

The New Macbook Air. Just slightly smaller as we move the keyboard, edge to edge. Slightly new shape to improve rigidity and still be incredible thin, and the new laptop sized Retina/near-retina display. This puts this mac back into the exclusive lust area of the corporate CEO. And puts notice on the rest of the world (Adobe), to kill carbon and move to cocoa. A little bit heavier, because everyone wants a bigger battery. And the new benchmark Nits/microwatts. The brightest screen with the least energy use.

Rest of the macs to receive minor upgrades, the kid's laptops 13" and Plastic will receive nice Nvidia ION upgrades. Operating system access to the video cards, and hardware accelerated Quicktime. With hopefully, flip4mac, divx and flash already seeded for improved performance. Killer frame rates for video games.

Also overdue

The other thing that is majorly overdue and I hope shows up in this is a new revision of iWeb.

I'm actually quite excited

I hope they enhance Expose to have the side by side feature from Windows 7.

That would be nice, particularly if it snapped to full resolution in multi-monitor setups.

I doubt MBA will be introduced there UNLESS it's something major, e.g. 11.6" model etc. Apple has done significant updates silently in the past, 27" iMacs for instance so they won't waste time on MBA if it's just a minor spec change.

It sounds very interesting and promising though, lets keep our thumbs up!

I actually expect a MBA Air redesign. It's been rocking the same chassis since launch, is using an aging chipset with no path forward that doesn't include an IGP and has serious competition from the likes of the Vaio Z series. It's time to push the design envelope again.

Where is USB3.0 and SATA3? At least USB3.0 is now part of many low end budget PC:s. SSD stalls on waiting for slow SATA2 bus. A PC buyer looking at the spec for any mac laugh about the price and technology.

Yeah, Apple needs to start adopting these standards and embrace SSDs with some TRIM support.

I also think they need to be more aggressive about adopting the latest graphics standards. That means being fully OpenGL 4.0 compliant. With steam, they are positioned to begin to challenge Windows as a gaming platform, but they need to be serious about updating and supporting it to do so.

And as someone else mentioned, resolution independence.

Yes!

So excited! Mostly cause there were no leaks of this event that I heard of before the official announcement, so it is a complete surprise! :D

It's about damn time they held an actual event for the Mac. Not expecting anything super surprising. But an OS update, a new iLife, and possibly a new MBA is very welcome news.

Wow, what an awesome surprise.

My guesses:

10.7 with new UI Previewed, taking cues from MobileMe.
iChat 6.0 for OS X and Windows, with FaceTime. Free download.
iLife /iWork for sure. Love how they are pre-empting the Office 2011 release a week later.

(I doubt we will see a OS X Cougar as Puma was 10.1 which is the same thing. But that was before apple started really marketing using the cat names, so anything's possible.)
