Lion is the king of the Jungle and the beast

Apple is the king of the Tech world and better than MS

Both of teh above work perfectly and sound and read so joyfully :apple:

oh my gosh I can't wait!!!!! Its been almost forever and a day since we heard some news about the mac operating system!!!

But a lion is king of the beasts. Nothing can top it. After 10.7 comes 11?

It makes sense to leave Lion and Cougar for last. When OSX is at the prime of its life you would want to call a Lion. As you're preparing to finally retire OSX, and it's still fighting for relevance, Cougar is far more appropriate.

Actually, I read an article about the guy who designed the kernel for OSX, which is what makes it such a good operating system. The underlying technology for OSX was expected to be used for 20 or 30 years as the underpinning of Apples operating systems, the kernel design is that advanced.

At some point the branding will be refreshed even if the underlying technology is still relevant for years to come.

I wonder what (if any) hardware 10.7 will drop, saying this is about 10.7. Since, 10.3, Apple started dropping computers.
-10.3 - needed USB
-10.4 - needed firewire
-10.5 - needed 867+ MGHz G4
-10.6 - needed Intel
-10.7 - need Core 2 (as in no more Core Solo/Duo) (?)

Announcements will be: 10.7, iLife 11, iWork 11. 10.7 will go back to the $129 price point since it will be true upgrading.
I think that they will integrate FaceTime with iChat for 10.7; as well as opening up the codec to allow others to utilize it. I am also going to go out on a limb and say that they may include native support for running your favorite iPhone/iPad apps on the desktop (that is a far out there theory, but still plausible).

I'd be very surprised if nothing from iOS comes over. I personally think the cut/copy handlebars would be an amazing addition to OS X. Heck, even the pop up menu's that give you suggestions as to what you would like (cut/copy, replace). I'd also expect the UI to have taken cues from iOS as iTunes already has (bigger volume slider).

My guess:
- OSX 10.7 preview, beta version available for developers
- iLife/iWork '11
- MacBook Air Update
- "Silent" Xserve update to match the new Mac Pro (will just pop up at the store)

My hope:
- Aperture 3.1 (as in "stable")
- Final Cut Express 5

Dear Apple,

Apart from adding things that are awesome that I didn't even know I needed,
Please fix spotlight (at least to how good it was in 10.4)
Please fix preview text searching
Please add better inbuilt expression recognition for magic mouse, magic touchpad thing.
Please fix all bugs and give us more control over smb file sharing.

Thanks.:apple:
Posting in a news comment thread won't get you noticed. Please file bug reports at apple.com or at least post in the official Apple support forums to get your wishes noticed by Apple's engineers.

A bit surprised

I have to say I'm a little bit (but not so much) surprised.

OS X 10.6 is so polished and refined, I was sure this would be the last iteration of "Mac OS X". I would have thought that the next release would start the "XI" branch, and focus on a convergence of touch and iOS into Mac OS.

It's still possible they'll go that direction, but the presence of the Lion in the art suggests that they are staying with the OS X branch of naming schemes.

But perhaps both?

Unix operating systems can support very different skins, while maintaining compatability and usability. I could see Apple developing a consumer version of iOS as a full operating system. Really, given a few more essential features, and the majority of casual Mac users would be more than happy running an iOS desktop environment, along with the easy to use App store for expandability.

Full Mac OS X (or XI) could be used in a production environment, where much more refined control of the OS is necessary.

Users could flick a switch, and go between both, sort of like the old Launcher. Geez, does anyone remember the old Launcher?

Appears to be a tiger?

um...how much more obvious does something have to be before you call it what it is?

commentator: "someone who appears to be Steve Jobs just took the stage at the keynote...let's wait and see if it is really him."

speaker: "Hi everyone, welcome to the magical keynote address, which is incredible and amazing."

commentator: "ok, that's him."

You forgot "Revolutionary" and i'll bet it's full of "Industry Standards".

Loving it!

You do realize it’s a touch pad, right?

Better integration with gestures in Lion is a must then.

I remember it. Wasn't it something like the dock? I forget.

I saw him!

"It's Aslan! He's come back to Narnia!"

Leopard introduced a new voice called "Alex". Wouldn't it be funny if 10.7 had a new text-to-speech voice that sounded like Liam Neeson? :D

iLife '11 here we come! Expect to see a preview of 10.7 Lion. It will include touch capability into the OS probably. Yea, some refreshed notebooks too. This will be interesting. For those who are keeping track, when was the last event Apple actually discussed the Mac or Mac OS as the centerpiece? I can't remember seeing one in the last 2 years? Maybe when they were first showing Leopard with all of the cool features? Who knows? It's been a while. Please do not discuss the iPhone or iPad at this event! Thanks! :)

All these years on, I'm still waiting for cut and paste in Finder. Come on Apple!

Can't wait, can't wait!

Thanks God they announce it only 1 week in advance, otherwise it would be hell to wait more than 1 week for news about OSX and iWork ;)

Bring it on. :D

Finally some good news coming from Cupertino. Can't wait, especially since I'm doing mad overtime this weekend. Maybe my little Macbook could use a nice refresh (and an illuminated keyboard!).
