Just allow me an OSX with bare-bones search and connectivity. It could load in 5 seconds.
Obviously going to be talking about 10.7 Lion. There won't be anymore "cat" named OS updates after this - Lion is king of the cats. Features in Lion are going to be:
-Cloud oriented, and will not require a Mobile Me subscription (MM will still BE there, but include extra features not available otherwise. Of course, these features wont' be terribly great, and won't work terribly well, but we'll all still pay for it anyways to keep our email addresses).
-There will be a curated app store for the OS, but you'll still be able to install apps the old fashioned way.
-GUI will be updated, have a black and grey feel to it.
-There will be "under-the-hood" improvements that most of us won't really understand.
There will also be a hardware update - I'm guessing a major overhaul of the Macbook Pro lineup:
-MBA will be permanently discontinued.
-But, ALL MBPs will be incredibly thin and sexy just like the MBA, and none will come with optical drives, except MAYBE the 17".
-MAJOR battery life improvements.
-New 11" version with near-retina display quality.
-11" and 13" Macbook Pros will have AMD CPUs and chipsets.
Finally, 10.6.5 will be released that same day, and include support for the new AMD powered MBPs - that's why they've taken so long to release it.
What you won't see: touchscreen OS or Macs, iOS emulation, USB3, LightPeak, faster FireWire, 3G built into a notebook, or any other new hardware.
A Tiger and A Lion together makes a Liger.
I can just see that name happening in the world of OS X. It just sounds right for the next name after Lion.
I'm really looking forward to the event to see the UI changes. OS X needs a few UI changes to give it a new look for once.
I was literally minutes away from buying a 15-inch MacBook Pro when I read this - perhaps I'll wait a bit.
Is the MacBook Pro likely to be updated at all? If so, is it likely to be a major upgrade and is it likely to be more expensive? I'm a student at University so cost is quite a big issue - I can just about afford a 15-inch one right now, but if the price goes up much I won't be able to!
PS: Sorry to post this here, but I'm not sure where it should go.
Oh, you think it's going to come out soon. That would be cool, but I would doubt it personally. I was assuming they pulled too many people away to work on iOS stuff.
+1 doesn't sound very special!
I'd love to see Dashboard have an option of running iOS on it. Let me run my iOS apps on my laptop or Mac. I mean, who really is buying "Dashboard Widgets" today?

It seems so obvious, yet missed. I'd bet $1000 this is in the product.
PS, for the Gold, Apple should make a PC product that lets people run same iOS apps on Windows7.

whats 5?For OS X Lion (I hope):
1. 100% Blu-ray support...it's almost 2011.
2. TRIM Function
3. Graphics driver updates...it's sad that you have to boot into Windows to get a decent framerate in some games.
4. Customization...we shouldn't need third party applications for this.
5. Smart Window function.
whats 5?
This couldn't have come at a better time, I was thinking it was time to upgrade to a new mbp, so now I'll wait and see if they refresh the line, if so, I'm getting one as soon as possible.
I hope the newer MacBook Pro's are better
