ilife 11, iwork 11, final cut express 5, pro logic express, new cheaper macbook air, touch screen trackpad,

When it comes down to the Macbook Air. We know theres going to be a redesign, but has anyone thought of what type of design we will see?

I think presumably that we will see the design of the Macbook air to be the shape of the Macbook Pro/iPhone 4, with the rough edges.

But Much Much thinner of course.

It would have a tablet form to it.

No MacBook Air at all hopefully, i really just want a smaller MacBook

OSX: No, we've been through this- I'm not the king! iOS is.

Hopeful Mac user: He let the iPhone take over MacRumors...

OSX: WHAT?!

Yeah I don't think Macbook Air has done very well for itself, I'm hoping Apple manages to put dvd drive in it and keep it thin..

I'm really excited, so looking forward to a sneak peak of 10.7 :p..

How on earth could the Air be thinner? The thing will evaporate if it gets thinner than it is.

Theres a competition laptop that is actually thinner than the Macbook Air.

So it can get thinner.

But if you are thinking it can't get any more thinner. It can but technology isn't there yet.

Don't worry about it breaking like a twig because once it gets Ultra thin, it would have a strong bendable material to help it from not breaking in half.

I believe we will see this in the iPad once it gets even thinner that Apple has to do this to keep it from breaking.

There are good reasons to make it this thin though.
-Lighter
-Falls won't damage the device because of how light it is
-no more cases
-Looks damn cool

It's one of the best usability features of 7 that is missing in OSX so I don't see why not.

It may be, but apple wouldnt copy it as is, they will make it better :D Like everything, plus a ton of apps (Better touch tool for one) has that now. :) Apple is going to do great things with this i hope :3 Come on apple! :D

...But if the outside is bendable, wouldn't that make it easier for the components inside to be bent and/or broken?

The components would be plastered on a bendable material and would move along being bended.

It's still some time away before we see this but IT WILL HAPPEN. Which gets me excited on the future of apple products.

Theres already bendable TV monitors made but that's only because it of how big the TV is which allows room for lots of stuff without the thickness and use a bendable material to keep it from breaking.

Now when it comes down to being bendable. Don't think it's going to be the flimsy bendable type. It's still going to retain it's flat shape but if you try put strength in bending it, it will bend only slightly. Like an inch of being able to bend.

There is going to be a new Macbook Air.

As for the smaller/thinner MacBook. Not happening until either late 2011 or middle of 2012.

The MacBook Air is in "Apple Flops" sector, it is hopeless and if they can make it thinner it will have to be wireless USB or something. if they had a second door on the other side they could have fit 2 more USB's and the charger port in it. instead of making it As simple as can be with one door

Yeah I believe they will put more doors. Maybe a unified door that opens up many ports on the right side of the laptop.

I'm pretty excited to see how they will revision the Macbook Air and get it back on top.

Only 5 more days! Don't forget a new OS X to go with the new Macbook Air quite nicely.

The Macbook Air has been here for awhile so I believe we will see a big update.

i don't see why they should bother making a new one, the last one was unsuccessful and was terrible at everything, if they are going to make one, put fire wire on it, with 3 USB's it is possible, try make it have a CD Drive, it is possible looking at the thick point, as said, they should make it square all round instead of having a thick point, make the Ram expandable and at least put an i3 processor in it

i just one thing to say....

that is all ;)

This is just crazy! Apple pretty much said what they are going to do next Wednesday and still people are going wild with speculation. A "TouchScreen iMac"? Are you guys serious? Have you ever used a Toch-based Desktop for any longer than 5 minutes? A MBA with touch capabilities and turnable display? Come on guys, this is Apple, not HP! They don't build crap like that!

So let's get the facts straight. Apple said in their invitation: "Come see what’s next for the Mac on October 20, including a sneak peek of the next major version of Mac OS X"

FOR
No Hardware. This event is about software. Yes, a new MBA is overdue, but it will be introduced "silently". Apple has stopped promoting new Hardware outside the iPod/iPhone/iPad product line on stage a while back.

INCLUDING
There will be more than just the new OS, but as I said before, it will be software. My money is on iLife and iWork, since the Pro App usually don't get promoted on stage.

SNEAK PEAK
They are not going to ship it any time soon. They never have. There was always a preview to build up a hype until the final release about a year later. Besides, SL is just one year old and the 10.6.5 Update is around the corner.

btw: Why is everybody keep on saying "Finally, they focus on Mac again!" I don't see how Apple has ever taken their focus off the Mac in the first place. True, there have been no on stage presentations about new Hardware, but a lot of stuff has happened in the last 12 months.
- new white MacBook
- iCore Updates for the MacBook Pro
- new iMac
- iCore and graphics Update for the new iMac just 6 months later
- all new Mac Mini
- huge Mac Pro Updates

If that's what you guys call "lack of focus" then I'd like to hear what you expect Apple to do with the Mac...

Nah, they will mention the MBA, if they don't, that would just be stupid

Exactly. The reason the Air failed is because it was form over function. Bring on the 11.6" form factor, with specs similar to the 13" MBP but without the stupid optical drive, smaller screen of course but the same sized keyboard.

Why anyone would pay more for a Air over a MBP 13", while losing ports and performance, all for 0.25" less thickness (at it's thickest point, which is obviously the key metric) and less weight, I'll never know.

Well, it MIGHT be the "one last thing", but even if the do that I highly doubt it will be the "co-headliner" next to OSX.
There are good reasons to believe that Apple will not showcase new hardware next week. If you look at what Apple did recently, it would not be untypical if they didn't mention a new MBA and "silently" release it two weeks later. The MacMini came out just a week after the introduction of the iPhone 4 and the didn't say a word about it back then. And I don't think it is "stupid" to have a presentation that focuses on one specific area - in this case software. I actually thing it's smart to show a product on stage that you can actually DO stuff with and leave hardware promotion up to small video clips, images and spec sheets (after all, how much is there to say about a smaller MBA?)
