btw: Why is everybody keep on saying "Finally, they focus on Mac again!" I don't see how Apple has ever taken their focus off the Mac in the first place. True, there have been no on stage presentations about new Hardware, but a lot of stuff has happened in the last 12 months.
- new white MacBook
- iCore Updates for the MacBook Pro
- new iMac
- iCore and graphics Update for the new iMac just 6 months later
- all new Mac Mini
- huge Mac Pro Updates

If that's what you guys call "lack of focus" then I'd like to hear what you expect Apple to do with the Mac...

The fact that no Mac hardware has been introduced at a keynote in the last year, only silent store updates. Few of them and the ones you mention were lackluster, barely following industry technology. They are trailing behind on new connectivity standards such as USB 3.0 and no word at all on the future roadmap of OS X.

Yes, they did lose focus there for a while. It used to be they'd talk about the Mac a lot more than this. It's been all silent updates to the store, sometimes very late updates (see the MBPs) and I wouldn't call silent updates to case redesigns "focus". To pretend otherwise is to ignore the preferential treatment the Macs were getting before.

My wish list:

Mac OS Lion (shipping in november)
New MBP, MB & MBA, i hope a thinner MBP with more features like USB 3.0, 500 gb hdd, 4 gb ram standard, i5 in MBP 13" and a pricedrop.
iLife 11 & iWork 11

I knew if I bought one they'd be a new one out in October; if I didn't they'd be January. I'm loving my new MBP though so can't really complain overall. If it's got USB 3 I will be slightly peeved though, but I guess I can always get an expresscard USB3 if I really need it. Also if they offer no internal optical, 2 HDDs and support the MBA external I'll be peeved as I fitted an optibay and can't boot other OSes from external DVD. :-(

So 10.7 is gonna be Lion? I'd hoped it'd be 10.7 *****. Shame. Missed opportunity there...

I disagree. I don't think the iMac screen are barely industry standard, nor is the Magic Mouse or the Magic Trackpad. And if you know of a Net-Top as small as the MacMini with power supply inside, please let me know.

I think it's a perception issues. Just because Apple doesn't "talk" about it, doesn't mean they don't "do" anything about it.

Preferential compared to what? Before the iPhone/iPad there simply was nothing besides the Mac. You need to have a choice to prefer something...

Don't forget world peace and flying unicorns for everyone... ;)

What? That's a type of cat (as well as slang)! You can't censor that? Give you a clue; "Puss"! Maybe that's why they went for Lion, cuz MR would censor the new OSX!

iLife 11 & iWork 11

Fixed that for you.

Haha, good luck with that! let us know when you see hell freeze over. ;)

Haha, why dont you think that there will be a updated MBs with usb 3.0 etc??

Because I think that Apple would be wise to wait for Sandy Bridge which is being released in "high volume" early next year. Not sure what Apple and Intel's "behind the scenes" relationship is like nowadays, but Apple has previously received processors before the official Intel release. The MBA may get a minor update to the current ULV CPUs, but it will be a silent update (if any).

Exactly. The reason the Air failed is because it was form over function.

I am so sick of reading this sort of c@rp.

Just because the MBA doesn't suit you doesn't mean it failed.

It has sold very well and is much loved by many of us who needed an ultraportable. If I'd needed ports and such, I'd have bought a 13" MBP, but what I needed was something super portable that ran OS X well. The MBA qualified on both counts as it for many many many people.

Ah, no. It's an abject failure. You saying it isn't doesn't magically make it so. Just because you like it doesn't mean it not a failure.

Here are the facts:
- Apple has hardly updated the model, a classic sign that it's floundering. It hasn't committed resources because it's not selling.
- The device is not "super portable", it's got the exact same footprint as a MBP 13" and is only 0.25" thinner. It weighs less but that hardly call that "super portable".

Hmmmm, I'm not sure it's as simple as that. I would imagine that the latest revision of the MacBook Air stalled during development of the iPad whilst the company wondered where it should be positioned in the future. When Apple came to that particular crossroads we don't know what they decided. Perhaps we will find out next week, perhaps not. I don't think low sales have been the determining factor. Might be wrong though.

Pure awesome sauce!

And hopefully will shut up the whiners who have been contemplating the 'end of the mac' for the past couple of years.

Mac is every bit as important to Apple as their mobile products.

Well, let's see it after Jobs succumbed to his cancer - I predict a refreshed board will fully turn their focus to their gadgets, Macs will be totally secondary.

Yeah! Apple should totally ignore products that generate like half their revenue.

Dude, I bike into London with it in my pack every day. Trust me. It's super portable. Further, they've sold a ton of them. By definition, that's not a fail.

You people who think that items that don't suit your needs are fails are thicker than old oatmeal.

I personally don't think that it would take that many MBAs to weigh a ton. In fact, 667 isn't that many at all and definitely sounds like a "Fail" to me.

What a load of crap. I sold my 13" MBP for an Air and I'm glad I did, it is significantly lighter (I travel a lot for work) and due to the thin profile takes up much less space in my messenger bag. As well as for work it is also my only home computer- I use it all of the time for iTunes, browsing the net and watching movies. Not everybody needs the Pro photo/video editing power which many people on these forums assume is necessary (remember due to the SSD most apps actually launch faster then on the default MBP). For the majority of people the MBA is perfect if they can afford it.

Again, read what I said, the keyword is some. Of course not all Mac updates were completely lackluster, but some were still late/disapointing.

It is a perception issue, the fact that they focused on something else made it seem like they were abandonning the Mac. Marketing is all about perception and they failed to properly market the Mac there for a while, thus why everyone is claiming they lost focus.

Are you doing this on purpose ? Proving my point while saying I and others are wrong ?

Fine, argue semantics all you want. There were iPods before. The iPhone has been with us since 2007. It's only recently that the Mac has gone to way side and been ignored like this.

There is no denying Apple has focused their marketing effort on iOS based devices in the last year.
