logic

it sure would be nice to see a logic upgrade here. i remember reading somewhere that someone had asked a logic booth guy at NAMM if logic 8 would be released anytime soon and he responded "it will be soon, and it will be huge." now we didnt see an upgrade at NAMM, but if it really is coming soon, and needs OSX 5 to run, NAB seems like a good time to announce its release.

anyway, here's hoping.

I just think all of these updates will come this year. Remember, Steve Jobs said 2007 is going to be a great year for the Mac. Anything is possible this year.

where did you get this information? do you have a link?

I can't believe we have to wait until April 15th to get updated Mac Pros. That stinks.

On the other hand, this may bode well for people expecting large tax refund checks? (I know, I'm reaching....)

Not to pick on you (because others have said the same thing) but it would be FCS 2.0, not 6.0. Final Cut Pro (FCP) would be 6.0.

The suite with FCP 4.5 was called Production Suite. The suite with FCP 5 is "Final Cut Suite."

FCS 2.0 (assuming they don't again change the name of the suite, and that all elements will go up a version number) will have Final Cut Pro 6, DVD Studio Pro 5, Motion 3, LiveType 3, Compressor 3 and Soundtrack Pro 2.

However I give you credit for saying "8 core" instead of "Octo." "Octo" is almost as annoying as "ATN." :)

Final cut studio and their apps for sure.

Maybe Octo-core Pro Mac new enclosure and new Cinema Displays too.
I wonder if Leopard comes before that. If not I think they will announce MacPro's but the shipping will be weeks later. I'm pretty sure Leopard will be here before the MacPro's.

We'll see.

Interesting bit of trivia from the NAB website regarding Apple's booth:

Languages Spoken:
English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Yiddish

That's quite an array of specialists at one booth.

I believe it's the largest booth this year also.

Lotso stuff to show off imho ;)

I reaaaaally hope that the mac pros come earlier and are not on tracking for that April 15 announcement, May shipment. I have been greenlighted for a new one and I don't want my boss to change his mind because I keep telling him updates are just around the corner.

Could this be the 'big release'? Or does leopard have to come out before fcp6? Any ideas on mbp upgrades?

They may intro those as well but we won't know until Big Steve opens his mouth. Until then we will just have to make due with the machines that only a few months ago we thought were fantastic. :D

NOW YOU'RE TALKING! :D

Predictions:

Final Cut 6 with Final Touch HD Color Corection integration, real media management and RT 2K 10bit RGB 4:4:4

Octo Core Mac Pros with Blu-ray support and HDCP GPU

Revamped displays with lower price points, the new LCD technologies already incorporated by Dell, built-in iSight and HDCP.

My predictions:
Updated Quad Core Mac Pros w/ a Blu-Ray option being added to the store, but standard on highest end model (No Octo Cores yet)
Updated or lowered prices on Cinema Displays, possibly a larger display to be added to the mix.
New versions of Apple's Film Editing software.

Remember, with Apple.... Less is more.

And let's repeat this again: It's the
National Association of B R O A D C A S T E R S
exhibit.

If any, only pro hardware will get introduced.

Yeah and let's not forget the Apple Special event (was it PhotoKina?) where people got very excited about new hardware only to see Aperture 1.5 released... That's more like the reality, not all this pipedream crap about new displays and MacBooks.

And, if Mac Pros are announced that day they'll need to be shipping that day. Dell is already offering Quad core intel chips, Apple has no excuse to wait any longer than they have already. I'd hope they'll be released sooner though as they're now officially over the average update release time according to the MacRumors Buyer's Guide.

A bona fide Apple Special Event in March would indicate something more substantial.
