Rejoice!

Wow! It's finally coming! Bring on the octo-cores so that I can go back to a normal life. It's really sad that a major part of my waking hours are devoted to waiting for this octo-core mac pro thingy.
Once it's finally released I'll have to find something new to wait for... ;) Apple PDA?
To my octo-core anticipating brothers and sisters - our time is coming, soon we shall be triumphant!:D

Software releases are near certain. I saw where Blu-Ray prices were recently decreased. That is the type of thing that motivates Apple to adopt something they have been talking up for YEARS.

If there is a hardware release it its more likely to be accessories for Mac Pro such as a radical video card, Blu-Ray, drive updates, raid, whatever.

As far as a MacBookPro, since the next steps are Santa Rosa and LCD and dieshrink, I suggest May at the earliest, probably June+.

CNBC Cramer recommended ATT stock today on iPhone exclusivity and triple play rationality.

Rocketman

8 core requires a new motherboard with stokley-seaburg (whatever). Hence the delay from 11-06 when the quad chips were available. OR is Apple really waiting for C2Q to do it? . . .

Don't Expect Too Much

I wouldn't expect many updates. The only hardware Apple will unveil is the Mac Pro and possibly new displays.

I wouldn't expect to see upgraded iMacs, MacBooks, or Mac minis till late Q2 as this hardware will probably include the new Santa Rosa chipset which will dramatically improve video performance on these Macs.

MacBook Pros are a totally different animal altogether. They still haven't become as powerful as some PC Laptops, specifically the AlienWare laptops. Some may perceive these to be expensive toys and hardware overkill, but truth is they are great for video work. Especially with their slot loading, RAID capable HDDs. All available for a slightly lower price than the MacBook Pro.
I expect Apple to do something big with the MacBook Pro.
As for iPods, Christmas time. We, at PodPacker, can't wait that long, though. A true video iPod will be a boon for our site.

High End Final Cut?

High end version of Fianl Cut ... Final Cut Extreme? I thought Final Cut was the high end with Final Cut Express being the low end and iMovie being the wanna be.

Please launch a...

17" MacBook Pro Laptop
Dual 3.0 Intel Core 2 Duo... at least (or a Quad chip:eek: )
2 gigs ram standard.
200 gig 7200rpm drive.
HD burner
new OSX

I'm dreaming...

It is rumored to be a software and hardware solution... not just software.

For those of you who do not know "why Final Cut Extreme"? It is an application designed to compete with a system called Avid which is what movie makers use to make real shows in high definition. It is really expensive. Like $100,000 to $250,000 combined hardware and software.

It is rumored Apple will be making a ~$10,000 hardware and software solution that combined with another ~$20,000 in third party hardware will replace the Avid brand solution which costs as much as a cheap house in Southern Califorinia.

As for the wishers hoping for a Mac Book Pro upgrade. I for one hope they use iPod stytle HD's now to get internal RAID, C2Q chip(s) in the 17" version to get real desktop performance in a portable, and a special plug for external PCIe and/or eSATA as well as FW800.

I doubt Apple is ready to translate Fibrechannel to SOHO just yet. Wouldn't it be nice? If only a Powerbook had a "dock connector" for ultra high bandwidth external connectors.

I wish too much.

I love having the integrated iSight on my macbook, but in the displays? Pfffff get the hell outta here.

I can see a market for 13" macbook pros, but the likelihood of that happening is rather low I think. I say this, but I know in my heart if it was available I'd buy it.

As said already Blu-Ray is a bad idea to include as standard. I'd refuse to buy a Mac Pro if it came with Blu-Ray. Sony is the only one dumb enough to install B-R into their computers since they're trying to keep their format alive.

Are you anti bluray or something? I have a PS3 and love it for BD movies. The first DVD-R drives on the PowerMac were a $1000 add on. Do you remember those days? You can get a BD writer for $600-700 now. So, if Apple made it a $700 BTO, there is no problem. People that are using Final Cut Pro and want to make a high def disk can get the goodies.

I wonder if anyone might have a clue as to what the hardware component of FCS Extreme might be? I do recall last posts from last year (January?). There was a thread about a new video camera which had some unreal resolution. FCE was speculated to be able to support this. Then folk were computing the size of the screen it would take to use the technology. So, is this the rumored hardware. Or, is it data throughput? I am not sure how significant that would be. Afterall, anyone who has a serious, professional need for that, can do it already. Any ideas?

Leopard

For these speculated products to be shown at NAB Leopard must be shown either before or at the same time.

Looks like we're going to get another "special event" prior to this one.

Looks like March 24 may be the big day - either by special event, or by release followed by a slew of special events to demonstrate new apps and their capabilities running on Leopard.

Logic 8

it sure would be nice to see a logic upgrade here. i remember reading somewhere that someone had asked a logic booth guy at NAMM if logic 8 would be released anytime soon and he responded "it will be soon, and it will be huge." now we didnt see an upgrade at NAMM, but if it really is coming soon, and needs OSX 5 to run, NAB seems like a good time to announce its release.

anyway, here's hoping.

It's rumored that Logic 8 has been completely revamped, under a new name, which utilizes Leopard's core animation and graphics considerably. We might have to wait for Leopard's release before seeing it

Dreams

Yeah, in your dreams. I bet half of those won't happen in 2007 at all.
Why not?

8 Core Mac Pro, very doable
New Displays, more than likely
13 inch MacBook Pro, Look out for the "Thin"
15 inch MacBook, easily
Final Cut Studio 6, along with FCP Extreme
Logic 8, without a doubt
Santa Rosa Platform, a given
Leopard, so that we can enjoy FCP 6, Logic 8, and 8 Cores as soon as they are released:p

well my prdiction is

my prediction is that motion and shake will combine, and i heard it will be phenominon!

and i like that idea!

exept i just bought shake:mad: and fcs

do you guys think they will have a cheep up grade for shake and fcp users?

cant wait for blue ray and possible hddvd
:apple: rich :apple:

It's dead, Jim

I doubt Apple is ready to translate Fibrechannel to SOHO just yet. Wouldn't it be nice? If only a Powerbook had a "dock connector" for ultra high bandwidth external connectors.

I really doubt that Apple will come out with a dock connector for Powerbooks.

On the other hand, it's so lame that there's no sort of docking station for *both* the MacBook and the MacBook Pro.

My Latitudes and ThinkPads are just one click to dock/undock, not
  • do the power adapter
  • do the GbE connector
  • do the mouse
  • do the keyboard
  • do the USB hub
  • do the DVI (oops, first find the mini-DVI to DVI dongle)
  • do the speakers
  • tidy up the mess of cables
  • figure out why the printer doesn't work (the other end of the cable to the USB hub detached when I last disconnected)
  • tidy up the cables again, since I messed them up trying to fix the printer

How do we know this? Won't they run on Tiger...?

Santa Rosa will be this year :p.
yeah this year... say november? remember how long it took merom to get in MBPs? pf.
what are you on?

that'd be a fire hazard.

those aren't coming anytime soon, if at all for the first two. Santa Rosa will eventually come, when is it coming is the big question.
