Just out of curiosity, what's starting to fail on it? I have a mid=2012 and perhaps I should start worrying...

I'm not the OP but my 2011's GPU is failing for the second or third time and on also had a mobo replacement for a failed RAM slot... lol so getting ready for logic board #4!

Seriously, I just had nearly everything fixed for free including a new screen and all outer case parts along with the logic board/keyboard/wifi card/hard drive this past spring when they took it in... and this past month it's started glitching out again, albeit few and far between this time so far (loading a game on Steam does it for sure if I want to trigger it). Been taking pictures and video of it when it happens so I can go dump it off to get fixed one last time as soon as I have a new machine (always do this — last time I went in, they couldn't dupe the problem for 2 days of testing but would've done the repair if I had pics/video to prove it).

No conventional ports could be a deal killer for me - but if they offer a 2 TB hard drive option and the keyboard is usable I may just deal with it. Can you imagine it - not a single thing you own can be plugged directly into your computer - everything is external, everything needs an adapter. Except for your headphones. :)

All jokes aside, I don't want to see any options for HDDs or Fusion drives. It's going on 2017. SSDs are dirt cheap these days. I'd expect 256 or 500GB to be standard across products.

...people who want an iMac or mini with > 1TB internal storage & aren't made of money will still want Fusion. Personally, I'd keep the spinning rust away from SFF systems like the iMac & use external/network storage.

With laptops, though, its nice to have lots of internal storage - If I go for an rMBP I'm gonna miss the 1.25TB of storage currently in my MBP (500GB SSD + the old 750GB spinner moved to the optical slot). 1TB+ SSDs still aren't cheap, even before the premium for PCIe blades + contribution to the Tim Cook Benevolent Fund.

The 27" iMac really, really should have a M.2 slot behind the RAM door (not holding my breath for that one).

Who needs HMDI ports when you can just Airplay your Mac to your brand new Apple TV (this is a joke post obviously lol)

Most people have got fed up an switched to Windows. There are only a few of us die hard Mac fans left.

If they are not user upgradeable they better stick at least a 1TB drive in that thing - and 32GB of RAM.
I know, I guess it's one way to reduce demand. But I think they're very confident in the new MBP, because it will be a major leap and as attractive as the new MacBook with the performance and features of a Pro. I just hope they advertise the Mac for the first time in years rather than spending the money on pointless Watch ads!

Yeah the storage will very likely be soldered on, but the storage tier will be better. Maybe even capacities above 1TB?
Like the first Retina MBP, this will be very disappointing as well as amazing.

Makes me sad to say this, but...
I worried that they reshuffled original earnings report date, and then made the Apple event date 2 days after that rescheduled earnings report date, all in order to provide some positive news following a uninspiring report.

It seems to me like it should be a good report. It's just that the scheduling smells fishy.

I think this is exactly why they did it. I remember reading somewhere this was most likely the reason.

I hope you're wrong. I am pretty sure that Apple is aware that this is a major complaint of Mac users. It is foolish to boast about "courage" in getting rid of headphone jacks but holding onto to spinning hard drives. It doesn't matter. If I have to pay for an upgrade to an SSD I will.
I hope I'm wrong too. I've been paying for ssd upgrades even in desktop macs since 2011. No way I'd go back to a spinner.

But, since they still use 5400 rpm (!!) hard drives in some iMacs, it seems optimistic to think they'd jump past fusion drives straight to all-ssd. Especially because some desktop users might want massive storage at a reasonable price.

Somebody needs to wake Apple up. They could implement a really sleek upgrade area like they've done in the past.

Now turn all that line of "don't buy" green, Apple!

One of the
My dongles are ready

That really didn't sound
Don't expect a Mac Pro update. The machines are just so poorly designed it's not funny.

We had a major overheating issue with the top of the line CTO model and after scouring the forums we saw this is a very common issue. We joined a discussion on an Apple forum and their own representative told us this advice:

"Try and find a Mac Pro 5,1 to do your work"

So even Apple don't trust their own product! I'd say they'll either discontinue it quietly at some stage, or offer a major redesign again to fix the thermal core issues.

I didn't know about this.

So glad this is happening so we can finally stop seeing incessant comments about it in every single thread here, regardless of relevance of the topic to Macs.

I sold my 2015 - 15 inch MacBook Pro two weeks ago after hearing about this refresh. It was only 5 months old... call me crazy, but I can't sit around while a new MacBook gets introduced. I'm jumping on ship.... joke will be on me on October 27th when I realize they didn't change anything

Mark my words, these will be sold out/backordered for weeks. There has never been this much pent-up demand for a Mac lineup. Super excited for this.

I know, I know - I've been sitting on my Apple II just waiting for the right time to make my move to an upgrade. But the 25 year wait will be worth it! I don't know about you guys, but I'm hoping for lower case letters, a multiple color screen, maybe even sound support, raster graphics, and even a light pen.

How I imagine some are feeling right now:

I hope they offer at least 2TB of all SSD storage. I think Optane will fix all of these problems but it is a long time before it reaches the same capacities and then there's the Apple delay...

Time to buy a bunch of adapters.
keep adding to that collection of dongles...

While mbp demand may increase, the demand for other macs might decrease. Well..it's happening. Lot of Mac users went to Pv or hack.

By neglecting Mac buyers for years, pent-up demand is no surprise. Just like procrastinating for years before giving iPhone users a modern sized display. Then bragging about how many they sold.
