What if your camera uses CF? (Many pro models do) or XQD (high end Nikons and Sonys) or some of the other formats that pros use. Or if you have a legacy camera or need to support a bunch of formats.

So why did Jobs put it in there in the first place? It's not like SD cards are being used less today, on the contrary, or there is a good alternative. I can't transfer pictures using Wifi or Bluetooth.

Why do you want to remove it? To get 30 seconds more battery time? Cut the cost of the product by $5

Sorry, I don't see the case.

I was okay with removing the headphone jack from the iPhone. But damn it, having a full-fledged, ready-to-go HDMI out on the rMBP is a fantastic feature. Please don't let that go.
It is amazing - The original RMBPs were ahead of other competing notebooks when it came to ports... it's a shame they'll let that go.

Mark my words, these will be sold out/backordered for weeks. There has never been this much pent-up demand for a Mac lineup. Super excited for this.

Considering they're pushing the announcement to "barely in time for the holiday shopping season", I'm guessing it will be a double whammy: pent up demand and not enough supply.

I just hope I don't have to wake up at 3am like I did for the iPhone to pre-order one.

Also wondering, with the talk of elimination of ports on the MB Pro, what they'll ditch on the new iMacs (should there be any). I'm really hoping i can connect the devices I have without resorting to a dongle farm hanging off the back of the iMac. At least give me the standard T-Bolt ports so I can connect my Apogee audio interface and a Thunderbolt dock - from which I can connect most other things...

They'll be Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C, so you can get a dock for your plethora of old cables.

It's gonna be a LONG 9 days - reminds me of waiting for the original iPad announcement - except that this is something people really need. :) Well, I'm off to wait in line.

Reminds me of 2009 when I got my iMac. Had to run around to a few stores to get one.

Very cool for those that need to upgrade. As for me, happy with the 2015 15" rMBP I got 2 months ago, and my 2012 13" non-rMBP is still plugging away as well. No regrets, no desire to upgrade. I like having the legacy port options on both and the disc drive on my older MacBook Pro, which is semi-retired to house duty. I hope everyone gets what they want!

While mbp demand may increase, the demand for other macs might decrease. Well..it's happening. Lot of Mac users went to Pv or hack.
Yeah, it's such a shame to see. However if Apple sort themselves out I think many of those users will come back. But to be honest, it doesn't look like thats going to happen. Tim says he loves the Mac, and while we will get revolutionary upgrades this month, I still find it difficult to believe given the extended refresh cycles.
He knows about markets and figures, I feel like he is trying to make Macs behind PCs so the sales go down and he can say "iPad Pro is outselling our whole Mac lineup".

Actually, a 64 GB SD card can store an hour of 4K video at 100 Mbps. And there are 512 GB SD cards.

Come on Ben. We both know that this technology meets the minimum functionality on paper. We also know the drawbacks with speed and reliability. Very few in the professional video industry would still exclusively use SD cards. They've moved onto bigger and better things.

We're talking a $20 adapter for legacy work. My original point was that I don't understand why people are so bitter about the SD card slot being removed.

jet black MacBook pro. make it happen, apple
There will be Black I think but it may be accompanied by Space Grey rather than Jet Black. it would be extremely hard to manufacture on the MacBook Pro, not to mention the scratches. Having said that, it would look amazing.... before you touch it.

horrible.

It's about fricken time. I tried to hold off by buying an iPad Pro. That was a productivity waster. You can't replace a mac.

'Cause Apple wants you using your iPhone to take pictures, not your camera. This is the new Apple. "We only support ourselves."

Thanks for the update Apple. It's ok for the USB-C ports, we expected those but... why removing SD card, HDMI and best-port-ever-invented-magsafe???? And I am terribly concerned about the headphone jack port... no mention for it at all... please, don't do it again! :D
