I've been waiting for this. Wanted a Mac Pro, but I think I'm finally ready to accept trying an all-in-one, and see how good the iMacs really are.

Will be turning my Mini into an Ubuntu server :D

Is it just me, or are these rumors making anyone else roll their eyes at some of the "features"? Call me old school... Hell call me a crybaby, but who the hell needs a touch screen on a Macbook Pro?! My MBP is a work horse so a touch function would only handicap the accuracy I need when performing certain tasks. On a regular Macbook, fine. I just don't see it on the Pro.

Also, "thinner"... Really? My Pro is thin as hell, even with a hard case. Sometime I pick it up with one hand and worry it's gonna bend. When the hell do computers stop getting thin? Personally, I think the retinas are just fine. Any thinner is just nonsense, TO ME.

Then you have the rumor that essentially all ports will be removed. I love the idea of USBc, but I use the SD card slot full time and as the SD card space gets bigger, people are going to wish they could leave it in the slot full time, for that extra space. Damn them if they remove the headphone jack. As an on the go musician, I wouldn't be able to use a MBP without the 3.5mm jack. I also think removing the USB connection would be a big mistake. There has to be at least one. I think the HDMI comes in handy, but I guess I wouldn't poop my pants without it.

It's bad enough the trackpad is no longer mechanical, and that is another thing I need. Mainly due to muscle memory, I am faster with a mechanical trackpad. When editing and mixing music on the go, relying on a vibration to tell me I have clicked something, just doesn't cut it. Feeling the trackpad press in, is a much more efficient form of feedback.

I think, even for my crybaby self, there are some positives. One is the USBc to charge. It would be GREAT if they could make it magsafe though. That feature has save my Macbook enough times to buy a car with the money I'd have to spend repairing it. The other positive is the potential for the touch panel. If the artist renderings are correct, I can see that bar being of great use.

Sorry to be crying all over all of your Apple products. I just see more gimmick than I do necessity and I am VERY invested in not wanting to live to see the day where Apple products become novelty items. When Steve Jobs died, I figured the company would go in a very misguided direction. These rumors seem to confirm that that may begin to happen.

You know what would be nice, and is LOOOOOOOONG overdue?! A thinner bezel. But before the thinner bezel, we'll probably get refrigerated devices that cool the area where the palms rest...

When my 2014 retina dies, I will buy another 2014 retina, or have it fixed. I don't see myself owning any newer models for the foreseeable future.

For anyone who made it this far, thanks for taking the time to read my rant. You all have a great day!
Touch screen will be seen as a gimmick by many but may slowly become more functional.
The SD card slot removal is not confirmed, and they won't be removing the headphone jack this year (thankfully). USB A will be removed because they see USB C as the replacement for it, so it makes no sense for Apple to include an old version of that port on their futuristic notebook.
As for thinness, it's Apple and not that nobody puts function over Jony Ives vision, we'll end up with a portless, non-mechanical notebook in under 10 years. I think any thinner than these new MBPs and nobody will really care.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think you've tried the Force Touch trackpads (or maybe even not noticed)... it is not just a 'vibration', it feels like a mechanical click.

You're right in the sense that Apple are losing their focus. Part of the reason is the fact that Tim Cook leaves the departments to do what they do and work together rather than being strict about what the product should and shouldn't be.

Apple will announce their brand new line of Macbooks, the MacBook Courage Pro. No ports of any kind. Welcome to the future.

that's true. or they could use the same mac pro finish. i personally find that a lot nicer looking that jet black.
Yeah, i wonder if that will be the top of the line exclusive.

Thanks for the update Apple. It's ok for the USB-C ports, we expected those but... why removing SD card, HDMI and best-port-ever-invented-magsafe???? And I am terribly concerned about the headphone jack port... no mention for it at all... please, don't do it again! :D

They will most likely leave the headphone jack this time, but they may add a Lightning port where MagSafe was to leave your USB-c ports free and provide a convenient port for those using Lightning headphones.

I also expect the Retina MacBook to have its headphone jack replaced with Lightning though if Apple does this ...

Would be amazing to get thinner bezel, but cant see this happening :/

I do custom bezel thinning, if you need it done. I call it Insanity, for bezels". I take it to a table grinder and grind the frame down to 1/10 of an inch. SUUUURE the lid looks smaller when it's closed, but I have remedied this by gluing denim to the outside of the bottom portion, so it blends in with your jeans, while it's on your lap.

I charge 3 goats and a basket of grapes. Feel free to text me at 429-277-4332. <--- Seriously though, whoever can tell me what that means, wins this thread.

Call me old school...

Couldn't agree more, and I hope you're part of a silent majority. In the past, Apple was always happy to support serious users as well as those that did nothing but web browse. No way a laptop is more valuable because it has less ports and no function keys. Question is when Apple will feel the push back - they already admitted the new Macbook "wasn't for everybody". Reminds me of countless times car companies tied to sell the idea of a "commuter car". But people never went for it - they wanted a car you could use for everything, even if they mostly just used it for commuting.

I'm trying to give Apple the benefit of the doubt - that the people designing products now are not users of those products and so have no idea what makes a computer "good" anymore. That is, it's ignorance, not arrogance. It's totally fine to try to put in some fancy novelty that's hard for other companies to copy, but keep the functionality too. You didn't hear the people in this forum yelling "come on, Apple - it's been 4 years and Mac still have function keys! Get with the OLED function keys already or I'm switching to an XPS." Heck, I never even saw a post like "can you just make a thinner laptop already before I finally just give up and buy something else."

But I'm still really excited that after 4 years Apple is finally updating Macbook Pros, and there's a chance they'll have modern processors and increased capacities. Otherwise, I'll just settle for a 2015 with an external hard drive.

Wow this is a very smart idea.... Should get on Kickstarter and get a proper investment :D

Of course as many connections as possible are needed, usb3, jack, thunderbolt, usbc...
Those who deny it lack some brains.

There will be a new Mac Pro.

Unfortunately, I'm not gonna have the money for a MP, but after using a Mac Mini for several years, I now realize that it really is way more than I need (it's just *really* nice to have.)

Will be looking at a 27" i7 iMac :)

There oughta be - after all, the Mac Mini is the ideal modern laptop - it comes with nothing and you plug everything into it, even a keyboard and display! Even the upcoming Macbook Pro still has an integrated display, so the mac Mini still has the edge. :)
