The hardware isn't the issue it is the software anyway.

iPad Air should be called "iPad" and should be the regular mainstream iPad sold in Apple's stores and on Apple's websites. It should come in one size with an 11" LED display. The current regular iPad should be an education and corporate bulk purchase device, and should be unavailable to the consumer. If the new iPad Pro gets M3, then the consumer "iPad" should stick with M1 and always be at least two generations behind the Pro. The Pro iPad should further differentiate with an OLED display, an additional display size of 13", and multiple ports such as MagSafe 3 and an SDXC slot, in addition to the Thunderbolt 4. Every iPad including iPad mini should support the very same Apple Pencil version, and the wired Apple Pencil should go to die. iPad Pro should always have more speakers than the regular iPad, and possibly an additional camera on the front (landscape camera + portrait camera). iPad Pro should be available up to 8 TB.Here are the reasons why the Air is the best iPad:
Excellent design
Powerful performance
Laminated screen
Full iPadOS features
Much more affordable cost without cutting corners
An iPad Pro is an overkill for many, and I work in graphic design and video. The Air is perfect for what one can do with an iPad. If you need more flexibility, you use a Mac.
the regular iPad has a lot of compromises.
so no, the Air should definitely exist.
Unlessā the reason the new software is taking so long is because it allows you to run macOS apps⦠šš¤This "software" delay is the stupidest thing I've ever heard frankly, doesn't make a lick of sense. Apple releases software updates the same day for tens of different iPhone and iPad models. Yet somehow, these new iPad models are so fundamentally different that it's taking them weeks to finish the software? Make it make sense.
Say it's delayed due to production issues, that's reasonable. But this software thing is straight bogus.
I think the usage of a iPhone Pro, iPad mini, and larger MBA/MBP works really well. Of course I see others that just want to use a iPhone with a larger iPad Pro. But what limits all of this is how Apple has restricted how each of the two mobile OS's work vs Desktop OS.For the price and weight of an IPP I can't seem to get excited about new ones over the cost of a MacBook Air these days.
More powerful and a nicer screen. Fair enough - but it's never going to replace a laptop in current form and for the power users who are getting excited about the M3 chip It's surely a niche market.
Ipad WAS revolutionary. now it's barely evolutionary.
If we knew iPadOS was changing it would possibly help sell units and get a bit of excitement up.
the mini is probably the most 'useful' daily device that could sit along a laptop rather than trying to replace it.
I might do the same. š š šThis delay was the icing on the cake for me. I gave in and ordered a m3 14 mop max from the refurb store. No need to try and make my iPad pro into a workable laptop the kicker is I thinkā¦knowā¦.got the mbp cheaper than the new iPad Pro!
"We couldn't be more excited to show you these new iPads that are basically the same as the old ones."āOur fastest most advanced iPads ever!ā
This. Just hold it for WWDC.Might as well unveil them at WWDC at this point š¤£

Consider yourself lucky. I gave my iPad Pro 10.5ā to my kid and took over his iPad Air 2. That in itself isnāt the end of the world but the reason he needed the iPad Pro was because the iPad Air 2 battery is dead. If I just try to watch a video on battery, the machine shuts off. I can only use the iPad Air 2 while itās plugged in.Great, I sold my 2018 11" Pro prematurely. Looks like I'll get to carry the mini 6 back and forth from work to home for a few months. #FirstWorldProblems
That doesnāt make much sense. The iPad Pro 13 costs roughly as much as the MacBook Air 13. Apple would be making big profit either way.The upcoming OLED display further cements why Apple will never let iPads be more than big iPhones with stellar displays:
An 13" iPad Pro with a market-leading OLED display and full macOS capabilities and Apple Pencil support and great quad speaker setup and great built-in microphones would absolutely devour most MacBook Air and most low-end MacBook Pro sales in a heartbeat at the $799-$1099 price point.
Even upping the price by $200-$300 for both M3 iPads Pro would still beat MBAs and low-end MacBooks in value/$.
No way Apple would offer that kind of high value while also trying to sell MBAs and low-end MBPs.
No macOS on iPad, not in this millennia.
It makes complete sense as Apple doesn't want you to buy either a MacBook or an iPad.That doesnāt make much sense. The iPad Pro 13 costs roughly as much as the MacBook Air 13. Apple would be making big profit either way.
Says the guy on the MacRumors sitePlease let me know when these are released instead of rumors, thanks.
Well.... I'm not sure. I'm display curious but I'll have to see that in the store. Also a relocated webcam might be nice. But depending on pricing..... I may pass.My plan is to order the new ones with my M1 iPad Pro still at my disposal to compare the quality of life improvements live. The biggest elements for me are battery life, weight, and display quality. You?
Those Galaxy Tabs have absolutely beautiful screens.Helps me feel a little better about my Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra I purchased as a stop gap waiting on a new iPad Pro. The new iPad Pro might come out before they upgrade the Galaxy Tab again. Or it might not. Or it might. We can all be Gurman if we decide the most minute amount of accountability is not necessary.
Uh, ok?First stage: denial
Same plan for me, and same reasons as well.My plan is to order the new ones with my M1 iPad Pro still at my disposal to compare the quality of life improvements live. The biggest elements for me are battery life, weight, and display quality. You?
Real estate is where I am. Air 12.9 - awesome for sheet music and side by side pdfs and note taking. Considered jumping on the Pro $50 discount at Costco, but landscape mounted camera may be worth the wait. I live on Zoom.I am upgrading from the 11ā to 12.9ā (hopefully 13ā). I am old enough now to need the extra real estate. I am trying to hold out for the upgraded chip. Hoping that it has MagSafe charging (something like the MacBook Pro has), I like the way the connector magnetically connects. Iām hoping there is some gee whiz improvement to the rumored new magic keyboard.
