When am I going to receive an email that the phone is ready for pickup?

So I'm assuming you were able to hit the "store pickup" option because it showed stock available? I'm still trying to figure this thing out.

I wasn't able to even select pickup because I couldn't find any stock available anywhere in or around the SF Bay Area last night :(

I just got back from picking up my iphone at the Fashion Valley mall and I was told they have about 60+ Sprint iphone 5's.

Just wanted to provide some hope for those still fighting the good fight.

32GB Black AT&T from NYC 5th Ave Apple store was available last night at 9:58 local time. It was already in my cart on the iPhone Apple Store app and it let me select pick up.

I checked out, got a confirmation email a few minutes later, then got mail at 1:45 am that it was ready for pickup. Went to the store at 9am. Waited in a short line of 4 people doing the same thing and got my phone (upgrade eligible price). No hiccups.

Just got my iphone 5 bitches!!! ;)

Damn, so is the consensus that they won't give em out to walk-ins, only pick-up orders?

I mean, with all these stores showing no stock, while many are saying they don't even have the online pick-up working right, what are we to assume from all this?

That's hopeful! Thank you! Are you able to check inventory ONLY after 10pm? I'm confused cuz there seems to be conflicting reports that you can check any time.

Oh, whoops. I just created a new thread about this in the iPhone forum. I did this process on Tuesday night around 10:30PM and got an email notification around 8AM the next morning that my pickup was ready (64GB Black at the Sherman Oaks store). Got it after work at 5PM and the whole transaction went smoothly. I'm thrilled with my 5!

They way is is supposed to work is that pre-reserved customers get priority. So if a store has 10 phones and 10 people reserved them the night before then no walk-ins will be able to get one that day. If they only pre-sold 8 then theoretically two people could walk in cold and buy them.

You can technically check inventory at any time, but the problem is that its only updated at 10pm local time. So if you checked last night and the store didn't have any and you check again at noon it is still going to show as unavailable, even if they received 1,000 of them. You won't be able to see it until 10pm.

No luck on the east coast either. I tried for 90 min...

There was availability in Charleston, SC last night, but that was all I saw in my region. Too far for me to go for a phone seeing as how its a 3.5 hour drive from me.

So I'm trying to order tonight for in-store pickup but I preordered on the 14th and my order says processing. Can I reserve for pickup first and then cancel the preorder after I pick up? It doesn't seem to let me place order because it tells me I'm not eligible...unless i say I want to add a line.

Boston?

Has anyone managed to find anything in Boston? I'm getting pretty depressed trying every night.

Like others here, hoping forth night's the charm.

As an aside.... was absolutely tortured today. Happened to be next to a Radio Shack today... decided to go in and ask if they had any. The guy said no, but said he could put my info in the computer, and if someone doesnt claim one of the pre-ordered ones when they come in, he'd call me. So i gave him my info. An hour ago, i get a call from someone there... so i'm doing cartwheels in my mind.... but he was just calling to tell me i could come prepay (with no guarantee of any time frame of arrival). Not fair, getting my hopes!

Cheers my fellow e-Friends. Lets hope tonight is the night we get our phone(s)!

Finally! Tonight is the first time since they started this reserve thing I have seen *any* AT&T phones (any color or size) show up in the Atlanta area. After having a black 16gb in my cart for pickup at Perimeter Mall, I lost it by the time I checked out. Quickly switched to a black 32gb, and some showed up at Lenox and I was able to grab it quickly enough to finish checking out with it still in my cart.

So after lurking here for the past few nights, I've decided to create an account just to share what I've found.

I'm in San Diego and I have been calling and checking everywhere for an iPhone 5 64gb black for ATT since its launch.

Today when I decided to check out some stores, I was informed that once they get a shipment in, they will announce to the floor that they have it in stock. The ones that popup in the inventory system after 10pm are from shipments that arrive after-hours, meaning they do not hold the iPhones for this online system.

They also said that they barely get any ATT shipments. They are talking in terms of single digit numbers (3-4 phones) so they are bought as soon as they hit the floor.

I've been checking SD, LA, SJ and SF area each night online while madly refreshing. So far I have only seen the 64gb black available at the Valley Fair store, and the Hillsdale store. The VF one had it up for about 30 seconds before it was gone while the Hillsdale store had it for a good 15+ minutes.

other random info: after calling non-apple stores, it would appear that there are plenty of Sprint phones available so you guys on Sprint are in luck. As for SD area, it would appear that almost all the available phone's I've found were white.

tl;dr: They don't hold any phones for this online system. All the phones that show up on the online inventory checker are phones that came in after hours. Also, the 64gb black ATT phone is near impossible to find in California.
