So after lurking here for the past few nights, I've decided to create an account just to share what I've found.

I'm in San Diego and I have been calling and checking everywhere for an iPhone 5 64gb black for ATT since its launch.

Today when I decided to check out some stores, I was informed that once they get a shipment in, they will announce to the floor that they have it in stock. The ones that popup in the inventory system after 10pm are from shipments that arrive after-hours, meaning they do not hold the iPhones for this online system.

They also said that they barely get any ATT shipments. They are talking in terms of single digit numbers (3-4 phones) so they are bought as soon as they hit the floor.

I've been checking SD, LA, SJ and SF area each night online while madly refreshing. So far I have only seen the 64gb black available at the Valley Fair store, and the Hillsdale store. The VF one had it up for about 30 seconds before it was gone while the Hillsdale store had it for a good 15+ minutes.

other random info: after calling non-apple stores, it would appear that there are plenty of Sprint phones available so you guys on Sprint are in luck. As for SD area, it would appear that almost all the available phone's I've found were white.

tl;dr: They don't hold any phones for this online system. All the phones that show up on the online inventory checker are phones that came in after hours. Also, the 64gb black ATT phone is near impossible to find in California.

Thanks for the info. It explains a lot.

So picked up the black 32 ATT monday night from Barton Creek in Austin. Tonight I got the other 2 iphone 5s ive been wanting, white 32 for myself and white 16 for mother at Domain in Austin.

Super happy!

Getting ready tonight for another round to see if Seattle will have any in stock. All I saw last night were some stores in Oregon. Anyone else waiting for Seattle tonight ?

I'm not so sure about that. I've talked to a couple Apple store reps at different stores here in AZ and they said that they aren't selling to walk-ins. All the phones that they get are held for the online reservation the next day.

I ordered my 16GB black AT&T to be picked up at Roosevelt Field in NY tomorrow. Basically every NYC area store had stock except for one or two.

It looks like any stock thats in-store is not allowed to be sold to walk-in customers and are reserved solely for online pick-up orders. So basically when the apple store employee tells you they don't have any in stock, they're lying. It's kind of annoying and weird. The worst part is, employees aren't even telling people about the online pick-up method! I don't get why Apple is doing this while online pre-orders have november 2nd delivery dates...

can someone check Ann Arbor Michigan for a black 16GB model plz? Apple keeps saying I'm entering in wrong password when I know it's the right password since I just logged into verizon with the password.

I think those are 2 different passwords. At least I know for me it is. There's the billing password and the password used to access the Verizon website. The billing password is the one used when you call in to Verizon and they ask to verify the account.

I don't even have one and it still won't let me go through.

I think I found a solution that beats this whole waiting around and luck game. I did some calling around and I managed to find that Radio Shack was doing pre orders for their next shipment that they get. They expected their shipment to arrive some time THIS week. I don't know about you guys but that definitely beats waiting for a month, and it definitely beats being up all night waiting for apple to have an available device. If you want to up your chances start asking your retails stores if they do pre orders on their shipments. You'll be satisfied.

Thanks!! Been trying since the first day they announced this program.

Anyone know how long does it take for them to send an email saying you can pick it up?

I got my email at 9:58 the following morning. Since I had to drive all the way to San Diego from Vista, I didn't wait for the second email. I headed down to the mall regardless if I would get it or not. As I got out my car I got the text & the email confirming that my phone is ready for pick up. Just lasted about 5 minutes, they activated my new iPhone & deactivated my iPhone 4S. Walked out the door with the phone ready.

Im happy to announce that after trying for 3 days I finally managed to get two Verizon 32 GB iPhones from the University Avenue Apple Store Palo Alto, CA. I managed to cancel one of my two pre-orders but it will not allow a cancelation for the other even though it is still processing. I did not order it using an Apple ID yet when I go to cancel it, it still prompts me to sign in for confirmation. However, since I didn't order with ID it doesn't make sense. Anybody know what I need to do to cancel it?

Success!! Got the AT&T 64GB White... at Carlsbad store. i had logged back in at 9:57, wasn't expecting it to update yet... and saw the Carlsbad store in green. Although its 30 miles further north from me... i wasn't about to wait around a few more minutes to see if the other closer stores got it. Would love to hear if anyone had success with an AT&T in one of the other San Diego stores.

No luck for mostly all stores in WA, including Seattle.

Success!

After checking every night since the system started, there have been very few stores in Southern California with the green dot... until tonight! I was finally able to reserve my 16 GB White/Silver AT&T iPhone 5 at the Manhattan Beach location! Checked at 10:01-10:02 for those interested. I'll be picking it up tomorrow, just 1 week after launch and I feel great. For those still trying... just keep at it because eventually it'll work (and it won't take 3-4 weeks).

sweet! congrats to you and the other SoCal folks that were able to get the phone they wanted.

I was able to find the 32GB Black AT&T phone on-line last night at the Columbia, MD store. Only one or two stores in the Baltimore/DC area showed them in stock.

64GB White ATT in Carlsbad CA

Snagged a 64GB White AT&T for Carlsbad CA SoCal last night at about 10:02 PDT. No pickup notification yet.

Nothing showed up for Escondido nor UTC at the same time. Switched over to looking for black 64's after that with no luck.

No success here. I'm hunting for the black 64 ATT and it doesn't seem to be anywhere. My theory is that they had a lot more preorders for that particular model than they expected so now they have no excess besides those preorder phones. I'll try again tonight if I'm not too intoxicated to remember.

AHA So THIS is how I got my iPhone, saw a post in the UK thread on the 23rd/24th that said reserve your iPhone and you'll get an email if you can pick it up the next day but I had sworn the day before apple store said you couldnt reserve one. The email came and all of a sudden I was in covent garden picking up an iPhone the next day.
