How close are you sitting to that 27??? I have one and that screen is fantastic.

lol 30 inches away, i guess my sight is super sharp. I swear i can make out those pixels easily and it bothers me. It's actually a known fact that lower pixel density and / or lower frequency can make you eyes tired very quickly.

I dont have that issue with my retina products...

My money is on one model - the 12" MacBook Air with Retina Display.

The 13" Air currently has a larger footprint than the 13" retina MBP. Price-wise they are close. If they just updated the 13" Air to retina and decreased the footprint it would essentially be the MBPr but with a wedge shape and slightly lighter.

A 12" Air could drastically reduce the footprint (Keeping a 16:10 display size) while keeping full size trackpad/keyboard. It would give proper differentiation between models.

If this rumor comes true, it will be tempting to get one right away. However, since it will be the 1st generation of its kind, history shows that it would be prudent to wait for the 2nd generation.

But good for Apple if they finally do come out with the long-awaited Retina Air.

I'm not sure how you guys keep screwing this up. A retina 2304 x 1440 panel by default is 2304 x 1440 native! To say otherwise is nonsense.

1152 x 720 is an alternative resolution but even then it isn't t like the old days.

If they ship a Retina MBA with a 2304 x 1440 panel, you are welcome to buy one. I won't.

How soon? I'm just waiting for the retina update to jump in an buy a MBA. Prefer the lighter case and longer battery life of the MBA but really like the retina screen. Presumably there will just be one 12" model going forward. Wonder if that means the MBPs will get a bump to 14" and 16". That would be welcome.

This should be obvious "REALLY", it is space for a larger viewable screen. The desire many have is for an LCD screen to be selected (engineered) so that it doesn't need the large bezel. This would give you a larger screen in the same sized package.

Do you really think they do that on purpose? Getting everything to come together for a new product is not easy especially when at the mercy of vendors and the like.

In any event why do you even think this is the case, they didn't bunch up everything at the end of last year. In fact they failed to even update the Mini. Maybe your perception of time is screwed up, along with many others here, but I don't see a big crisis here.

This made sense, which I did not think of earlier this morning

Just great, and I just got a new 13" Maxed MBA
Within a couple of month's is great, 3rd or 4th Qtr hmmmm not sure the old one will work that long

Wonder if there in production or even close to production at this point

More coffee

I just bought an 11 inch last week.. I don't mind because these are coming out on wwdc which is two months away.. I couldn't go without a laptop for that long.. so when the new one comes out rest assure ill be selling this one and just transferring everything to the new one. I learned my lesson waiting for the iMac late 2012...

And, please, a 17" rMBP too!

She's dead Jim.

What I don't understand is that the retina MacBook Pro, at its thickest point is thinner then the MacBook airs thickest point. If they do add retina to the MacBook Air, it will make the screen thicker and the body too since it will need more battery power which will also get rid of its awesome battery life. I think it's gets 13 hours compared to the retinas MacBook 8 hours. So it does not make any sense to make a retina MacBook, it will be around the same thickness around the retina MacBook Air after and have horrible battery life.

MBA's are simply the best laptops ever made. I have bought many of them over the years...

As much as I want to believe this is true.. I also wonder how they are going to power that retina screen and still squeeze out 12 hour battery life.....

Whew I was waiting for some sort of idea when this might happen, was just about to pull the plug on a 13" MBA Ultimate Refurb. I have a 2012 13" MBP loaded I can use and wait for the MBA with retina :)

Am I the only one concerned with this thing potentially having no fan? I know that computing has come a long way, and the iPads don't have one, but then, they aren't performing processed-heavy functions like rendering video from mkv to mp4 for hours. I worry the thing will overheat in a big way.

Although I have to admit, if this happens, it would be the writing machine of my dreams. I might just skip out on upgrading the iMac for this machine and use it for everything but workhorse tasks and photo processing.

A rMBA is not meant for performing processed-heavy functions like rendering video from mkv to mp4 for hours.

It annoys me that Apple are increasingly pushing their major updates to the Autumn / Christmas season. I understand it, but it means we have to suffer a dearth of updates for 9 months should our purchasing needs not fall into Apples mandated seasonal glut.

Rant over: I'm looking forward to a potential new MBA in any case!

I don't blame Apple for a late MBA. If they are going to use the very impressive (yet greatly delayed) Broadwell parts, that's when they will be able to get them

When will Apple listen to its customers

I would rather have a touch screen version the size of a iPad and the keyboard needs to be able to flip to the back. Needs to also have a IOS emulator since the Mac has very little software.

Then again just give me a iPad with a Keyboard AND MOUSE/Track pad support. Then I could use Microsofts RDP to log into my work machine and use the iPad stuff for all the other apps and games.

So until then still waiting, same story for my bigger phone.

Will get that this year you just need to make it soon.

OFF: generally, unless you need to recompress the video stream (or fully change its format if it's, say, VC1 or MPEG-2 and not H.264), you want to just change the container (and possibly convert the audio) via tools like Subler or MP4Tools. It can be done in 5-10 minutes on an SSD-based device, pretty much independent on the computing power if the CPU - as opposed to a full reencode, which can take hours and requires as much CPU as possible.

I've published several tutorials on all these questions here at the Apple TV forum if interested.

Jobs has stated the iPad would never have support for mouse.

Nevertheless, if you can JB, the absolutely excellent BTC Mouse & Trackpad (review: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1465193/ ) has just been updated to iOS7.

Apple! PLease bring back the 17" MacBook Pro! If only to shut Menneisyys2 up! :D (really though, keep asking and they just might listen!).

I wouldn't get your hopes up too much -- Apple never listened to those of us who spent years begging them to bring back a low-priced, easily upgradeable tower, like the entry-level G4 Power Mac circa 2000. How I loved my ol' Sawtooth. I upgraded every component that could be upgraded, and got eight years of faithful service out of it. I passed it to my dad, who got another two years out of it. It was the '57 Chevy of computers. Sigh...

It's interesting: on this thread, people have asked for 11", 12", 13", 14", 15", and 17" rMBAs/rMBPs. Nobody ever asks for a 16" model, though. Therefore, I'm officially going to asK: c'mon, Apple -- 16" would be the perfect size for the flagship MBA! 15" isn't big enough for some of us, and 17" is too big!

On a serious note, I'm very curious about what the new laptop line-up will be. I'm placing my bet on Apple replacing the 11" and 13" MBA with a 12" rMBA, and keeping the higher-specced 13" and 15" rMBPs. In 2015, they'll drop the word "Retina" from the product names, because there will no longer be a non-Retina option.

In closing, I need to express my gratitude that nobody has posted "I stopped reading after the word 'analyst'" in this thread. And it doesn't count if you post it now. :D

Retina screen means big battery means a retina 13" MacBook Air would be hardly distinguishable from a Retina 13" MacBook Pro. I'd be more inclined to believe that the rumored 12" MacBook is the supposed "Retina MacBook Air."

Note that the rumored display resolution of 2304x1440 is 4x of 1152x720. That's significantly below both the 1366x768 native resolution of the 11" MacBook Air and the 1440x900 native resolution of the 13" MacBook Air. It's even below the 1280x800 native resolution of the original MacBook Air.

It would make sense for Apple to drop the total number of (4x) pixels in this way so that it can still get by with a relatively smaller battery compared to the Retina 13" MacBook Pro, keeping it slim and light to justify the "Air" moniker.

Exactly, the effective screen real-estate will be MUCH lower than today's MB Airs.

Not really tempting at all.

:apple:

Although I think this will be nice, I am really finding that I can live without a laptop at this point. If they can improve the ipad to provide multi tasking (multiple windows) and an integrated keyboard cover, I would have no need for a laptop.

Meh. I don't see iOS moving to any kind of usable file system anytime soon. Cumbersome iCloud silos don't cut it for me, and Dropbox is a sad substitute for a real Finder. And I really don't at all want a "computer" that forces me to get ALL software throught the App Store.

I think iOS is great for consuming content, pretty dodgy for actually getting much done.

What are your requirements that they are not met by available software? Because your statement really isn't true...

As long as it can maintain run times at least as good as my 2010 that I'm still sporting, count me in for one.
