It seems you selectively quoted what I said, and then replied to only what you selectively quoted. Allow me to repeat the full context of what I said:

An iPhone is not a public accommodation, like a park or a school or a lunch counter. It is, quite literally, like a store with a sign that says "no shirt, no shoes, no service." That store is private property that is open to all but with rules that all must abide by if they want to be customers.

I hope this helps you to understand, or at least I hope it helps to dispel whatever false statement you may have been trying to attribute to me by presenting my quote without necessary context. By purposefully removing the rest of what I said, some people might assume that quote referred to the Apple Store. Who would do such a thing? 🤷‍♂️
No matter if I quote only the last sentence or your complete argument, in other parts of the world states may restrict what property owners can do. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Having used android the last 16 years, that is definitely false
If you're referring to android being laggy, you're wrong. Currently on an S24Ultra and its snappier than my 13pro and about the same as my inlaws' 15pros. Importing data into Android is incredibly easy. There are a ton of apps to assist with the process for whatever type of data you want to bring in. What's nearly impossible (or would be, if you're not a tech person), is getting data OUT of iOS in a somewhat efficient way. Getting my 200gb of photos onto my Windows machines involved creating an NTFS link because iCloud for Windows is a piece of trash and doesn't allow you to change the photo storage directory.

Yeah, the EU isn’t doing this out of the goodness of their hearts.

In the end, this will primarily benefit other businesses which compete with Apple. Will it help consumers? I have my doubts. Instead of paying for Spotify through the App Store, you’ll pay the exact same price through Spotify. Does that benefit the user? Not really. Does it save Spotify $$$ to take in more profits? Absolutely.
Assume you want to open an alt app store. What would you do to be successful? You have to have better relations with the developers than Apple has with the developers. They should have better curated apps, better vetting of the apps, better pricing, better surfacing of apps in searches, better everything. If not, why would people go for those app stores? Why is it not benefiting customers? Am I missing something here?

Are you sure about that? What if a company (say Facebook or Zoom just as examples) decides to ONLY offer their app in their own (or a 3rd party) app store, then you're forced to either not use the app you've used for years or go down the path of sourcing apps from a variety of app stores that may or may not be as safe/privacy focused.

A lot of this will come down to what users decide to do. I don’t think the App Store is going to be abandoned by users just because alternatives become available. Apple will do whatever it can to try to keep the App Store viable in the new competitive environment which means app developers will very likely continue to want to have a presence there. The much more likely result is going to be the same app being available in multiple stores INCLUDING the App Store.

You can be impacted even if you don't use any of the new stuff the DMA require.

I'm pretty sure, the DMA will make my experience as a Safari user on Mac worse over time.
Now, If Apple wants people to choose Safari, they have to make it better. Earlier, they just had to have a sub-par browser (which it is, btw) because there was no choice. Looks like you do not want a better Safari or better anything.

Also, does anyone read this to mean that every bank in the EU is going to be offering their own contactless payment solution in the own app, and that Apple Pay will likely not be supported for much longer?
Unless Apple offers them better terms. And that is how things should be. Piggy backing on banks and shafting them is not a good strategy, Apple seems to be finding out.

That's not how it was a few years ago when you could subscribe to Spotify through the iOS app and the Spotify website. It was cheaper to do so on the website.

New app store competition will drive Apple and the alternatives to find various new/different ways to attract or keep customers (both app developers and users). In the end, competition and choice can be very good for customers.

See, this is the thing. I think of Pokemon Go every time we talk about App Store revenue.

They are on the App Store and you can pay through Apple/iOS. Yet, if players want to pay through Pokemon Go’s webstore, they get extra in game currency for doing so.

Why can’t all these other companies do that? No one is preventing them to. So I don’t see this is Apple‘s problem but these companies who are lazy to facilitate that.. or have alternative motives.
So, you have not read the text of the Apple 1.84 billion euro fine decision. Maybe you should read it to understand the concerns and determine whether they are justified or not?

We don’t want to be forced to use alternate app stores. Complicates the whole reason we have iOS. In before someone says, “you don’t have to”. Nonsense some of the apps we all use will decide to go to other stores to save money. Then we will be a fragmented and difficult to use as an Android phone. Leave our iPhone along.
Maybe you should petition Apple to get them back on the Appstore by offering them better terms and treating them fairly.

Yeah but it's obvious that you are so extremely biased against Android that what you say has no relevance anyway.
That’s the beauty of opinions, mate.

I would hope an s24 would be snappier than an iPhone released in 2021. Like thats not the flex you think it is mate.

I have no issues with getting photos to and from my windows(surface pros).

I know lagdroid fans brag about the higher specs but for many android devices (android is way more then s series and Pixels fyi) android is still a laggy mess and the google ecosystem is terrible.

Presumably you are not a major Apple shareholder.
I’m not I despise these new changes since the
15.

I’ve only just started to use widgets because they are still uniquely iOS and not totally like android.

What I think you are missing is that you put developers and developer relations in the first seat. And you think this automatically creates a better experience for end users. I absolutely do not think that. Apple prioritizes end users, developers are welcome but only if they follow rules. And I think that is why iOS is so successful and has more users willing to spend money even though iOS has a much smaller share of devices than Android.

I think the DMA destroys this success of iOS to the detriment of their (ordinary) users.

I also think that developer types and computer nerd people (heard here on MR) will never forgive Apple for not producing an iOS system that puts THEM in first seat hence all the hate here.

I have been developing software for 40 years so I can understand how nerds and developers think. But I know that this is not how other people think.

Would you buy from an alt Appstore that treats you badly? If the alt appstores have to stay afloat, they have to be better than Apple in many ways. If they treat users badly, why would you buy from them? Apple could get away so far because they had no competition. Now they will also compete on all these metrics. Better for the users.

all this is going to do is cause headaches and complaints because its inevitable there will be crashes, lost data etc when your trying to force to two differrnt programs to work with each other. if you dont like apple just buy android. why you want to buy an iphone to run android is just weird.
Android already has these and there are no crashes there so we think we will be fine.

I can't wait to see their statistics of how many people don't use any of this.
Well to be fair not very many people use the Android to iOS transition when you look at it as a percentage of the user base. Even at 0.1% of iOS users going back that is still a very high raw number but statistically a small number. Same the other way around.
Biggest difference is Android makes it pretty easy. I swapped a few years ago and most of the things just worked and was straight forward. Google made importing over everything easy. It pulled from my Google Contacts and pulled them over. Email photos again pulled them over. The other direction is a different story. Apple makes it fairly hard to export contacts, export photos and so on.

I think the largest loss for me was text messages got lost but that is more due to the fact that Apple does not allow anything but iMessage to mess with the SMS. Google allows it to be backed up and moved between devices just fine and no matter what App I used for SMS it would allow it to swap between them with out issue. It was nice for at least SMS as multiple apps could read and send them with their own system. Most of the time I just used the default in the end but it was handing at times.

Making a data export I believe strongly is important and something super long over due. Sadly Apple will not open it up until other countries force them to do it.

I like that EU regulations are making Apple show their true colors.

It's actually MORE WORK for them to make this only work in the EU. They are going OUT OF THEIR WAY to exclude the rest of the world from being able to choose a default browser, default navigation app, and so on.

I really hope this bites them in the arse as other governments see this behavior and use it as evidence in more anti-trust cases against Apple. They could have just made these changes for everyone, but their going out of their way to exclude other countries shows that they deliberately make it harder to use other companies' apps.
