Me think the 10 million iPhones scheduled to be available in September will not be enough. I suspect I will have to wait until October. No I will not stay awake tonight to pre-order. I am too old.

They sold 9 million last year during launch weekend. There were no pre-orders except for the 5C.

The question being, will you have to wait in a long line or not? Curious how quickly that second line will move.

Me too. If it's something I could do on my lunch hour I'll see if I can pick it up at the store near my office. If store-pick up line takes a while then it might not be worth it.

What does Apple use for the delivery, for the most part? UPS or FedEx? If it's UPS, I can just ask them to hold it at their location, which is close by, but FedEx is a whole other problem.

What are the odds of getting 1 or the other if I preorder at 3am?

Deos anybody know when you preorder if it charges your card when you preorder or when you pickup at the store? Obviously if you have it delivered then they'll charge you when you order it, but what about for pickup?

Thanks!

I would prefer in-store pick up as well since I am working. Also, I LOVE the atmosphere of Launch Day it's like Christmas. ;)

As do I, but not enough to risk waiting in a long line or being a victim of short supply

Could someone confirm if we preorder online does apple charge the credit card right away or upon shipment? Never preordered.

I believe so, I think that's how it usual works. They will put a hold (which means your available credit - $hold). Then when they ship it out it will go through.

Yes, a second line, that will be almost as long as the other line. But if you're there early, you'll get in before the other riff raff.

Ordering Quickly

Trying to get some advice on the quickest way to place my order on ATT's website. I'll be a new customer so I'll need to go through setting up my new plan etc. Any way to enter all of that information in first and then add the phone right at 12:01?

Awesome.

All I need to find out now is if the Apple Store will allow me to do the AT&T Next program in store (with a pre-order).

Me too. Currently, it looks like you can't do personal pickup for a NEXT purchase, if you go and put like a 5s in the cart. I wonder if that'll change for the preorders...

I think the run the charge through as pending and then it goes through once it ships.

I'll preorder tonight and hopefully just stroll in next Friday after work and pick my reservation up. Last year I was able to just waltz into an Apple store on launch day and pick up exactly what I wanted with no issue. Which was surprising to me!

My question is how long are they going to hold onto it if you choose store pick-up? I have work until 7:00 and would rather not have my phone just sitting on my stoop all day. I wonder if they'll hold it all day for me.

I used the option a few years back, but I thought is was until store closing. Only Apple knows for sure.

Can we preorder online and pay in store? I was just told by an Apple rep I can't preorder from the US store because I only have a Canadian credit card, and the only way to get my hands an iPhone is in person.

So...

I'll be on vacation all next week, and won't return home until 4 days after launch. How many days would I have to pick up the phone, if I were able to preorder it?

You should have like 27 days to pick it up, that is if PP is still anything like it was when I left :apple: about a year ago

you must trust your carrier. Personally, the horror stories i've heard about the drivers makes me not trust then. Granted, I know a company like Fed Ed or UPS would accept responsibility if something goes wrong but it's having to go through the steps of ordering another and having to wait.......

I had that with the 5S .. it disappeared just after it arrived in the UK and never made it to the local depot (so it was a carrier issue)

It took a week of constant calls to both UPS and Apple to get a new one sent out

They never found the original phone

From what I found out, they bulk sign the whole consignment in rather than the individual packages. Hence they could not say where mine was once it hit the UK only that it hit Customs. I believe the Depot itself over the 'call centre' as the information on the depot systems showed way more than the 'call centre' or 'website' gave.

Lets hope this year the phone does not go missing again
