I made the mistake of picking up in store the day of the iPhone 4 launch. Even though I had pre-ordered, I still had to wait in line for about 4 hours to get the phone. Just get it shipped to your house -- you might even get it early.

Same story here. Never again. Had my 4S, 5, and 5s shipped to my front door every year since. And BONUS, I have a shipping box for when I sell it on eBay the next year.

Smart Water Coffee

Did the instore pickup preorder when they did it for the 1st iPad, everything went well, no one in the preorder line so I walked right in. They had smart water coffee and donuts for the line.

smart water coffee and donuts

or

smart water, coffee and donuts?

Crazy if they use smart water to make their coffee, but then it's an Apple Store.

BTW - just teasing... not really being stupid!

Simplest Order is Best

I think selecting in-store pickup is just one more thing that could hold up your order. My strategy is to make my order as simple as possible. No applecare (I'll buy it later), no case (I'm buying Applecare), no in-store pickup (just another step to go through (selecting a store) that could cause the order to freeze up). Credit card is all set, security code is verified, calling my cc company to alert them that I'll be making a purchase so they don't flag it, ordering from iphone app so it identifies the phone I'm upgrading automatically, changed my billing address on my carrier account to my work address so there's no mismatch, express check out is enabled. Quickness will be key tomorrow morning.

No extra fees. Apple is the importer vs. if you bought something on ebay, etc. which then you would be the importer and Fedex would charge you for brokerage/duty etc.

I've purchased the iPhone 5 and 5S direct unlocked from Apple; no extra fees.

Alright thanks man!

Can the in-store pick-up pre-order be done on the Apple Store App or website only?
Thanks.

What does Apple use for the delivery, for the most part? UPS or FedEx? If it's UPS, I can just ask them to hold it at their location, which is close by, but FedEx is a whole other problem.

What are the odds of getting 1 or the other if I preorder at 3am?

Anyone? Bueller?

If you're attempting to do an Installment Billing order with the new iPhone, you will probably only be given the option to ship to home. Attempting to purchase the current iPhone 5s myself (to prepare for the procedure when the iPhone 6 preorders go live) with AT&T Next limits the phone to only being shipped. Not sure if it's the same with other carrier's offerings, but a limitation nonetheless. Could probably change though tomorrow.

As long as Apple offers the phone to being delivered the same day I'm alright with doing the shipped option. However, just a caution for those that wish to do Installment Billing with the phone but expect to pick it up at the store.

This is very exciting news. Without a doubt I will do in-store pickup, our UPS regular is pretty bad about ringing my door. I have caught him on numerous occasions walking up to the door and just placing sticker. He didn't even attempt to ring my door.

My company can't pre-order it. They can only order it on launch day. Bummer. On the plus side, that would give me time to go the Apple store on a weekend and try out the sizes in person and decide.

For now, space gray iPhone 6.

Anyone know what happens if you're not home to sign? Will they leave the phone at your door step, or do they make you come to a UPS/Fed Ex store to pick it up?

The million $ question is will it ship on the 19th or arrive on the 19th if ordered online?

How long do I have to pick it up ?

Do I need to pick up on launch day ? Can I go after a couple of days ?

That's exactly what I'm wondering. It's sounding from other replies that they typically deliver on release day? I forget myself....

Shipping vs Apple Store Pick up

I bought the 4s on line shipped to my home
and received it the day before the store.
I bought the 5s on line with an Apple Store Pick up
and waited in line for at least an hour for my 'reserved pickup'...

I remember some phones (roll outs) in the past were delivered on Friday. I believe it was the 5S that was shipped on Friday and arrived Monday or something like that so you could only get it in the store on Friday.

I think apple will.... If you open the apple store app and select the phone and pick AT&T next,it lets you get to the end except hitting "buy now", so I think you're ok.

Is this something new? I know that currently you cannot do Next or Edge in store. Or at least not here in MA.

They will not leave the phone, it requires a signature.

I don't think Apple did pre-orders of iPhone 5S, which would explain that.
