I had that with the 5S .. it disappeared just after it arrived in the UK and never made it to the local depot (so it was a carrier issue)

It took a week of constant calls to both UPS and Apple to get a new one sent out

They never found the original phone

From what I found out, they bulk sign the whole consignment in rather than the individual packages. Hence they could not say where mine was once it hit the UK only that it hit Customs. I believe the Depot itself over the 'call centre' as the information on the depot systems showed way more than the 'call centre' or 'website' gave.

Lets hope this year the phone does not go missing again

And this is why I do in store pick up.....

Nice. Now I can just preorder it tonight, get a good night's rest Thursday night (18th), go pick up my new 6s on the 19th around 10-11am.

I'm sure that the chaos will die down a bit by then. I'm not crazy about being the first to get it right away. I just don't want to have to take the whole day off work to make sure that someone is home to sign for it. Taking a half day seems much nicer. It was nice though back in college having my 4s delivered to my apartment 8:30 am EST in Michigan. I felt like I was one of the first few thousand people to get it in America.

You are brave man - last year the 5s was nowhere to be found for close to 2 months.....

That's why I don't get it from the apple store. Friends of mine had to wait weeks with preorder. I just randomly decided to walk into a small T-Mobile store on launch day and got one even tho I wasn't even planning on getting one. The look on their face was amazing

I did the store pick up last year. What you guys should know is that while you might have to be in line for a bit, you are sure to leave with a phone, I believe I was in and out in about an hour. This is not the same as going to a store blindly and hoping to score a phone.

With that said, does any body know if it's possible to go to the apple store and do a upgrade transfer to get the phone? Or has anybody done anything similar in the past? Thanks.

Where did you instore pickup? Apple or another retailer?

Any Canadian living BC know if FedEx or whatever company that delivers them know if they will charge you extra fees? FedEx charged me some bs fee because they "helped me" pay for the duties...

This was at the Apple Store. Basically this was the process (keep in mind this was the first time they open up the in-store pick up). This was for the iPhone 5, 2 years ago.
1. You visit the apple site, every night after 10 p.m. they check inventory.
2. At exactly 10 p.m. they open up the system, you search the store by city/zip code. The system will present you with a list of stores around your area.
3. The store that has the color and size of your liking will light up as green to indicate that they have what you want.
4. You click on it pay, then you will receive an email to tell you that you are good for pick up.

Now, I can't speak to what it will be like this year. This was what I did for iPhone 5, and I was able to store 3 phones for my family members.

Good option if you live near the Apple store or are off on Friday. I work til 3, so by the time I would make the hour drive to go pick mine up after work, FedEx should be here.

I think apple will.... If you open the apple store app and select the phone and pick AT&T next,it lets you get to the end except hitting "buy now", so I think you're ok.

Right, but I thought I read somewhere that you can't pick it up in store if you do Next.....you have to have it shipped to your house....

do they also charge your card if you pre-order online, but want to do an in-store pickup?

No thanks, I'll ship to home.

Since I have to work, but have the ability to work from home, the UPS guy will likely show up hours before I'd be able to go to the Apple Store.

I read this somewhere too, but as it doesn't make any sense to me, I'll hope we see the store pickup option with NEXT as well. As I currently am not ON NEXT, and don't need to trade a phone in, I'm not really sure why it would make any difference at all. (Heck for that matter, it seems it would be MORE complex delivering right to the house).

I would believe they would yes. However when you pre-order they hold your phone just for you, so if they run out of iPhones for the people waiting in line, they wouldn't sell yours, which is what's nice about pre-ordering.

My local Apple Store closes at 9 on Fridays so I should be able to get there in time. I'll have to push a lesson to 5 but it's worth it.

Just hope I can buy one in time. I'm going to bed extra early and setting an alarm for 2:30 and 2:40 on my phone and iPad :D

They need to allow apple store gift cards to be used during checkout online. Last time I bought something online I didn't see a option to add a gift card during checkout.

Nice in a lot of ways:

Apple probably saves money....consolidates several phones into one shipment and lowers demand on FedEx/UPS.

More secure for someone who's not at home all day.

Creates additional "buzz" at the Apple store with more people coming in.

Also an opportunity to sell cases and AppleCare+ to people who pre-order. One of their stated goals a while back was to get more people to get phones in the Apple Store....starting with the phones they sell themselves is an easy start!

Very smart I would say!

Also I wonder if they will charge sales tax based on my location or the location of the Apple Store?? My store is only 5 miles away but as it's out of my city limits and in another county, the sales tax is actually slightly lower at the store than at my home.

ohh okay. i was going to pay cash, but I guess not now. 16GB iPhone 6 Plus!

The question being, will you have to wait in a long line or not? Curious how quickly that second line will move.

Yes, the lines were massive for people that ordered from Apple online and chose to pick it up at the store. They make you wait even if you just need to pick the device that you already own and paid for inside the store.

Think I'm going to do this instead of having to wait for delivery, and hope nothing goes wrong with it. More peace of mind. Plus, being at the Apple store when they open those doors on launch day is fun!

No extra fees. Apple is the importer vs. if you bought something on ebay, etc. which then you would be the importer and Fedex would charge you for brokerage/duty etc.

I've purchased the iPhone 5 and 5S direct unlocked from Apple; no extra fees.

Did the instore pickup preorder when they did it for the 1st iPad, everything went well, no one in the preorder line so I walked right in. They had smart water coffee and donuts for the line.

I remembered where.....its was the Apple Store app.....

Sucks too - I need a 6 and 6+ on Next and then a 6 off contract. Going to wait in line at the Apple Store for the off contract 6 and would be nice if I could pick up the Next phones as well....

But it looks like I'll have to preorder through AT&T and pick up there after I done at the Apple Store.

6 Plus

Anyone reluctant to pre-order the 6 Plus without actually holding it and seeing how it works as a phone given its size?

If you elect in store pick up do you think they will they do a trade on your old phone... just wondering.
